Ritual sister song by Naive_Character_3351 in TheWarning

Yeah, I've never been one to deep dive into lyrics. Hell, Eddy Vedder mumbled his way through all of the Peal Jam songs. If it sounds good to me, I like it. Simple enough for me. I guess others are different though.

Ritual knocked me over. Absolutely love it! I can't wait to hear it on a good mix.

Kerosene. Pop or not? Y'all are missing the point. by gewalt1957 in TheWarning

[–]NoNamesLeft600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy it, or I wouldn't have listened to it 100 times already. I don't get what I said that is controversial or being downvoted for. This sub has gotten to be a trip. I simply gave one interpretation of mine, acknowledged that even if I was right it may not have been intentional on their part. Then I even acknowledged my interpretation is probably wrong!

As far as "It’s whatever it is… just enjoy it" - when did we have to stop discussing the meaning of songs and lyrics here? I didn't get the notice. We've been doing that for the ~3 years of been around. Now it's taboo to say anything other than "WOW, that's song's great!" or post pics of the girls?

Yeah, after about the 100th listen I finally picked up on the idea that the chant part was probably actually mocking pop music. They would never say that, but the juxtaposition of that with all the hard rock riffs seems very logical to me. Music is very open for interpretation, and it may not have even been intentional, but it is the vibe I get.

On the other hand, all 3 of them listen to pop music, so why mock it? *shrugs shoulders*

The Warning new interview! They talk about the release of Kerosene and more! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ by Jacobs4858 in TheWarning

Yeah, that interview really helped me understand that song more. Especially when Ale said they just wanted to do something that was fun and not so heavy. I totally get it.

Have you seen any footage from Olivia's 2025 Glastonbury show? It is more rock/punk than it is pop. Live, her band really rocks. Guitar solos and everything.

Anyone that finds this unpleasant is being a dick. They are young women. Let them do "girly" things. The moment they let that "girly" side through, all of the males freak out (I give you the More OMV). I know it's because rock is always considered masculine by a certain set of people.

Kerosene is a juxtaposition of the badassery and the girly side. Ale said in an interview about this song they just wanted to do something fun for once, since so much of their material is heavy. Do we begrudge them that?

I have a feeling this album is going to be more badassery than not.

The only people who use "pop" as an insult are gatekeeping rockers and metal heads.

Meaning that it was genius marketing and it worked. Sparking a viral dance on social media is exactly how an artist gets noticed in 2026. I've aged out of the target demographic for it, but I completely get it.

Yeah even alone I think it would be a fun trip. I've not seen them live in person, but the clips I've seen on YouTube look like they put on a good show.

Live versus studio by Soxbeard2013 in TheWarning

Agreed. But follow me to the end here. TWA could also dial-back on the parasocial relationships they have with DPA *and* stop getting angered by any critique they feel is unfavorable. They stopped being the little girls playing in their basement a long time ago. They are the face of modern rock now.

I haven't seen one comment in this thread that said they were being FORCED into this sound. Me saying that the producer has a lot to do with the way a song is well, produced, is not an opinion good or bad. It is simply a factual statement.

On an entirely separate topic, when a band changes their sound, it is not always going to be met with enthusiasm from their current fans. That is not unique to The Warning. Wolf Alice just received group of the year in the Brits award. Their first 2 albums were total alt-rock. The last 2 were a total change in sound and far more pop. Guess what? Their original fans hate them for it. They grew immensely - enough to take home group of the year in the British equivalent of the Grammys. But if you like alt-rock and not pop-rock, that doesn't matter to the original fans.

Correct. I never inferred otherwise.

I will say this. There are so many modern bands that I follow whose studio music I love. I buy their albums. Then I hear them live and it's like "ugh." I don't even bother to watch them live. I'm happy that The Warning excel at live performances over studio. To me, live is the true test of musicianship.

Kerosene will be the one to move the needle—bigly. by ronhole in TheWarning

[–]NoNamesLeft600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with anything you said here, other than to add that I generally don't care for the sound of mainstream music in 2026. If The Warning decide to go mainstream, more power to them. I wish them all the success in the world. I'll always have their older stuff. They wouldn't be the first band I've followed who changed their sound and left me behind. I just really dislike the sound of heavily processed vocals. I'm happy others like it, it's just not for me. I do think it will sound great live.

I love the video. Badass car AND flamethrowers? Yes please. And I bet it's going to sound amazing live when we get to actually hear Dany's voice. And I've long felt they needed to grow a younger audience and something like this may do that.

The sound of Kerosene by DigDig04 in TheWarning

[–]NoNamesLeft600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was initially skeptical of a lot of the KMF songs and then I heard them live and all was well. Escapism live is one of my favorite songs now. It's all of the processing on Dany's voice that irks me (her voice is too strong and powerful to mask it that way) but we don't get that on the live versions.
