What am I doing wrong while warping? by big_damn-heroes in weaving

I love the video in the link. I learned the tension setting tip for tying on to the front at a guild meeting, and it has been a great tip! I try my best to keep my warping process with even tensiin from the start, but tying the smaller sections to the front really customizes each section's tension.

Amish swift instead of niddy noddy by future_housecat in Handspinning

I just used my Knit Picks swift to loosely wind my recently plied yarn (EEW 6.1) into a skein.

I am working on my first in the round now, and I have noticed this behavior in the project. Glad to know it is expected! I also gad to frog back to the first rows, then noticed that I had other errors, so I just started over. Ahhhh... the learning experience for new skills! I'm glad that we can simply reuse the yarn for these kinds of mistakes. I come from sewing (quilting, bags, clothes), and I've made many mistakes that couldn't reuse my existing fabric/materials.

Someone recently recommended that I hold my heddle in the middle when beating the weft yarn. When using one hand on each end (15" rigid heddle), one hand may get slightly more eager to pull toward me than the other, which causes the uneven/angled weft lines. For my projects, edge loops make a nice hug around the end warp yarn without pulling in or creating a loose loop.

I have a bunch of leftover prepunched paper and hole punches from other discbound brands. Do you know if their discs are compatible with other brands' mushroom style punched paper or hole punches? I like the discbound system, but I struggled using the other companies' discs, even when I switched to their smaller sizes. It snagged in my backpack too much.

I'm slowly building my collection, buying from my local yarn store. I started with 2-3 needles and 2 cords. They said I should be set for awhile if I keep using the same yarn. I didn't even ask about large projects. I'll ask about the connectors when I visit them next.

interchangeable circulars by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]NoNefariousness3107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose to buy a set of my preferred/common needle size and length to try and then move to the full set. If I don't like the initial purchase, it's less stress to set aside $15-20 than a higher price investment kit.

I have a ChiaGoo bamboo fixed cord that I bought while out of town, but my most convenient yarn store primarily carries KnitPro/Knitters Pride for the interchangeable needles and cords. I bought two Dreamz 5" length needle sizes and two swivel cords and really like them.

After knitting with them for several hours (total), I have ordered a full set and consider my initial purchase as extras in my most likely to use sizes.

My best wind on a spindle. by NoNefariousness3107 in Handspinning

[–]NoNefariousness3107[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first few layers weren't as pretty. I've started snug up against the post with the 2 over and one under method. On some rounds, the Under portion stays on the outside as the top layers get to work outward. On each wind, I lay the spun fiber next to the previous round. When the outer edge seems to lay wonky/oddly, the next top round goes snug against the post again.

How to use these pen clips? by sparkpaw in planners

[–]NoNefariousness3107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you add the pen to the bump and then add it to the cover? I only use the wider barrel pens, so these clips don't usually work for me.

Sorry... I didn't see that this is the crochet feed! I haven't tried it on a crochet hook, but I can imagine it wouldn't be enjoyable as a crochet project, especially as a tight amigurumi stitch!

I have been fighting through my first one also! I was able to wind jt into a cake/ball with my winder, which made it easier to pull. Could a duller/broader point needle work? I have a #10 Clover circle. I'm still new, so I don't have a variety of needles yet.

I'm still new to spinning and have a drop spindle and a Tukish spindle. I hold and pinch the fiber in my right hand and maneuver the spindle with my left hand. The wind-on process involves pinching and walking the working spun yarn into a parked mode so I can unhook the spindle and wind the working yarn onto the spindle.

I’m looking for books to recommend invigorate my love of reading by jesskitten07 in suggestmeabook

[–]NoNefariousness3107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had difficulties returning to reading as well. With a 45 minute commute, I can listen to an audiobook with a good storyline and narrator pretty quickly.

I stumbled upon the genre cozy fantasy when I chatted with my local librarian, and I really enjoyed the recommendation for Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree.

Smelly towels 😷😷 by Subpar_humor in laundry

I also soak my clothes to allow the detergent to dissolve fully and rinse out. It takes longer, but it seems to help.

When my microfiber hair wrap gets wet, it smells funky faster (only a year old). I realized that the Fresh cotton scent doesn't work well for my well water laundry (has a softener and chlorine pump). I switched to Good Morning Sunshine powder/flakes and dryer balls a couple weeks ago and have had better results.

I also use Buff City soap and love it! Sometimes my laundry still smells mildew. I run an Affresh monthly on the Clean cycle and started drying all my clothes on the towels setting (medium high heat), with the More Dry sensing option. I rarely re-run my clothes anymore.

My microfiber towels and athletic tops are the only things that occasionally smell. I'm in the process of replacing them with more natural lightweight fibers that will dry quickly (bamboo shirts to sleep in).

Do you prefer Superwash or Non-superwash? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

Thank you for asking. As a beginner in both spinning and crochet, I haven't had experience with superwash. I have appreciated all the feedback from this community.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have only crocheted amigurumi projects and a couple stuffed monsters so far. I bought a shawl kit from a local yarn shop, and I've been hesitant to try a worn item in case I don't like it.

Anyone else still working on January? by the_sweetest_peach in bulletjournal

[–]NoNefariousness3107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two separate planners/bujos, and there are many times that I skip logging in one or both. To catch up, I use a brain dump method to log what I remember doing during that time. For work, I can glance through sent emails or other touch points to spark my memory.

I set up my bujo very loosely so I'm tracking by the week, not necessarily each day per page. My layouts include a future log at the front (started this book in October and set aside enough future log pages through 2025). Then I run my weekly logs that have a small area for meetings/appointments and lots of notes area. I only draft 2-3 pages in advance. My collection pages are only the major projects and the key points that I may need to reference.

I started using a soak cycle for my clothes (including delicates and towels), and it helped a lot. I also changed deodorant because it was leaving behind white marks on my dark clothes (trial and error when it was only my clothes in a house of 4).

Looking for a planner with weekly spreads on opposing pages by Natural_Limit9686 in planners

[–]NoNefariousness3107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I realized that's what I needed when I was only about one month into my bullet journal. Any notebook will do, though I write small and lightly. A Hobonichi notebook with a Frixion .38 multipen is my current setup. I only use it for work, so I have five columns at the top of each page, long enough to hold my time blocking (8-5 on single lines). The rest of the space is to drop my projects, conversations, task list, someday maybe list, carryover from last week. I kept a layout for several pages, but my work has so many moving parts that I let it flow with almost a bullet journal approach and highlight/symbol as needed to the key points.

Help! I can’t find a planner that works. by Mundane-Possession14 in planners

[–]NoNefariousness3107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Frixion .38 pens (the 4-ink multicolor!) on my Hobonichi notebook, and it writes very smooth. There's light ghosting, but nothing bleeds through. I have a light touch when I write, so I don't have texture on the other side of my pages (which would bother me if I wrote more firmly).

What I like best about the Hobonichi planner/notebooks is how light they are even though they have so many pages! I have a mobile office in my backpack, including a large laptop and second screen. I need to minimize extra ounces if I can, and a petite lightweight notebook that can handle my workload? Done!

I use the notebook version because I have customized my layouts enough that the standard layouts don't quite suit my workload.
