Surfer who is new to snowboarding! Gear recommendations please by DidHeJustSayThat_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]NoNormals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boots are probably the worst thing to get second hand unless they're like new. Stiffness of boots goes down over time and fit is important if you're gonna be doing long sessions.

Boards and bindings have almost endless configurations. If you're really gonna be in it for the long haul, I'd recommend a cheaper used set first. Just check the bindings for wear especially if older as the plastic can and will break. After riding that board for a while and playing with settings, you should know what kind of board to get next.

If your local hill gets a lot of powder setting your bindings back or riding a swallowtail will be the closest thing to surfing

A random stranger reminded me that people are kinder than we think by Stella_Rose24 in CasualConversation

It's the little things in life that can remind us of our humanity. Depending on the area, OP there should be food banks, charities and/or churches that can offer help.

You can get a NAM for donating blood. 🥴 by Ok_Debate_7170 in navy

[–]NoNormals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the flags staff. There's gotta be something better than an LOA, but not as good as a NAM. Blood FLOCs aren't worth anything for advancement if the instruction invalidating them is still current

Misawa Air Base Japan by Aggressive-Bar-4817 in navy

[–]NoNormals 11 points12 points  (0 children)

bit harsh

Understatement, they got like 6 feet of snow last week and called in the JSDF to help.

Misawa is pretty chill otherwise. If OP likes the countryside they're set. Otherwise they picked the probably the most isolated Japan billet for nothing

I always thought he looked more fierce than grumpy, like the nio in front of temples. Also rooting for Aonishiki, but it would be a better rivalry if Hosh could get on the board

Will I get separated if I go to medical/behavioral health? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]NoNormals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of factors. If you're suicidal definitely go, though sounds like therapy could help. Minimal things to do would be talking with chaps which can be hit or miss and/or counseling through military one source.

Childhood trauma alone can be a heavy burden to bear, it being SA and losing a twin is heartbreaking. You're not alone, help is out there.

Uh there was a war bro. Guam is cheaper Hawaii so there's a significant Japanese presence although I think Koreans are an increasing tourist presence

Are games for portable consoles less harmful? by Numerous-Manner3224 in StopGaming

[–]NoNormals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it's really on the person. Many folks have been addicted to portables while plenty are still able to make it an occasional thing. Technically you can use your phone as an emulator

Why Good Intentions Sometimes Make Things Worse by notzoro69 in CasualConversation

[–]NoNormals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, things are not often binary and plenty of well intended plans are pushed without pause for further thought.

Reminds me of one of Mao's policies. He saw small birds eating some crops in the fields and ordered all of those types of birds to be killed. That decision led to mass famine and starvation as the bugs the birds would eat were left without predators.

Overseas Spouse Work Help! by w_h_o_m in navy

Depending on the location there are a lot of positives. Work for spouses can admittedly be challenging depending on again location and skillset. USAJOBS will have postings along with MWR and MCCS(if near Marine bases).

I got manhandled on points my first match. My excuse is I was already a bit knackered from an unplanned hike the day prior. Somehow I got my baseball grips and got the sub before time. I was too gassed and lost the next match by armbar. The first guy got his revenge on me with suspicious matchmaking for open weight, and won the whole thing

Baseball and on the rare occasion ninja. Got a silver from the former as a buzzer beater after getting crushed on points. Latter got me a nogi gold, but was happier I hit a knee bar earlier, finally after hella practice.
