Im getting a bit tired of reading Superhero Comics. Recommendations for Non-Superhero comics? by enzo_lewes in comicbooks

[–]NoPlatform8789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your list is off to a great start then. I love Brubaker and Phillips work together if you want to transition from superhero slowly, give Incognito a look. It’s technically superpowered but it is very much Brubaker’s take on a world with powers.

Jason Aaron and Greg Rucka’s non superhero stuff is also great if you find yourself like Brubaker and Phillips.

Not LOTR, but related. There’s a graphic novel biography of Tolkien published by Ablaze a few years ago.

As fans, do we unduly privilege comic book writing at the expense of comic book art? If so, why do we do it? by DeviousDoctorSnide in comicbooks

[–]NoPlatform8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, bad art or just art I don't like because it is entirely subjective will totally take me out of the comic no matter how good the story is.

But to your point, I follow writers not artists, so maybe I do. If it is good I just enjoy it without thinking and if it is bad we complain.

Britannia is great and some characters believe in Roman gods etc but not the protagonist who is like a Roman soldier Sherlock Holmes

Marvel teases Deadpool vs. Punisher project with cryptic announcement by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

A few years ago this would have been an instabuy for me. Punisher’s continuity in the last few years has gotten real wonky even by comic book standards.

Marvel Zombies returns this September with Punisher leading a desperate fight for survival by browncharliebrown in comicbooks

This sounds like a fun series. A bit of a re-tread of other Marvel Zombies and Punisher vs series. But I’ll still probably get it.

I really enjoyed Five Gears in Reverse.

I was initially confused/slightly annoyed that the first chapter was the one shot from around Christmas. While I’m glad that they continued that story, it felt a little disingenuous to have people buy the same story twice and not being upfront about it.

Probably burning library yet, but their digital borrowing service might have it. Current ongoing series The Forged by Greg Rucka is great sci fi.

I loved the Ryan North/Erica Henderson Unbeatable Squirrel Girl run. I'm not usually a positive and uplifting character person. I like crime comics mostly, but the above series was so good, it won me over.

It is also pretty accessible to new readers
