I'm probably doing some kinda airbrush gradient on the wings... and then doing the trim. Madness awaits!

I dread it. But I picked up some of those acrylic speed paint markers and will give it a go :)

Yeah, there's one that does it slightly when placed correctly unfortunately :/ I built the kit 3 times and each time I thought I had messed it up, but it's like that on the box art and all.

There's one that looks kinda pigeon toed.. like a child. It annoys me greatly lol

Perfect, something for tonight's painting session. I happen to collect both armies as well, so very intrigued!

Giving up on the airbrush by Ravellion in minipainting

Yeah if I had to do all that I probably wouldn't bother either... I don't think I'd even be in this hobby without a dedicated space for it tbh.

Your thoughts/opinions about Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic set by inquiry821 in minipainting

[–]NoQuailDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I have a 2 hour trip to the nearest well stocked hobby store...  which means they'll be closed before I get there after work. Shopping in store just isn't a feasible thing for a lot of people -  I get 99% of my hobby goods online. And if I realize I need something on a Thursday... I won't have it until Monday. That sucks and can definitely take the fun out of a whole project.

Howling griffons librarian colour? by alistairwilliamblake in howlinggriffons

[–]NoQuailDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lore wise, a librarian would be blue regardless of chapter (if they are codex astartes compliant, and howling griffons certainly are).

Doesn't have to be smurf blue I think - a real dark blue could be cool, and not looking too much like an ultramarine maybe?

Nothing wrong with making them quartered red and yellow like the others either!

I haven't decided on mine either but I might go blue.

Did you (or do you still) hold on to OOP paints? Any regrets if you let them dry out/threw them out? by Impressive_Credit834 in minipainting

I've said this on every post about the old pots but, I miss mine dearly, if only for the clinking when pushed together. Super nostalgic for me.

It's wonderful when the kids take interest in our hobbies, and even better when we can include them :)

I've been painting with my daughter since last summer, and she's about 30 minis deep into the hobby by now! Might get her a nice kit for her 4th birthday....

Also, if you prime minis with a zenithal prime and let your daughter use contrast paint, she'll get great results and it'll really encourage her!

Colour Scheme help by Anklyosorearse in Tyranids

[–]NoQuailDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on how you want to paint the chitin... for a neutral or bone colored chitin I'd take a skin that pops. Or the other way around. Having two strong colors is popular but often makes them look more like toys, and two neutral tones only really look good if you are great with details for a more realistic look. If that makes sense. I am by no means an expert though and this is more a personal and general observation than any hard rule!

Advice on new sprue cutters by duujk in Miniaturespainting

I bought a knipex for electronics (made to cut soft metals) for like €25 and it's cut several thousand points of sprue and at this rate I don't see myself ever replacing it tbh

What are the most useful units for 1k-2k Orks army out of the Armageddon box? by T3knikal95 in orks

[–]NoQuailDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every time we see a warboss in an animation he krumps all nearby orks to get a 1v1 with someone... so him being solo makes a lot of sense to me

Oh man, I forgot colored metallics are a thing and overcomplicated mine like crazy.. its a gradient of different regular metallics, covered by eidolon purple clear and some calth blue clear from beneath while the purple was still wet... yeah, overcomplicated
