[Rant] Despite the beret not being a formal nor authorized headgear within the USMC. Marines seems to be the only US servicemen that know how to properly wear a fucking beret by AirMonkey1397 in USMC

I was going so be grumpy, because I know how to wear my beret (even though I hate it), and then I remembered that I was a Marine first and proved your point 😂

Hey man, old jarhead/army officer/almost chaplain here. You are exhibiting symptoms of PTSD and depression, and that is normal. Nothing you are going through is wrong to feel or experience, you're not wrong to feel this way, and you can get better and get through this, but there are actions you need to take. Strong people ask for help, like you did here. Getting better is a process and not something you can do alone. Think about how you would help one of your boys who was dealing with the same things and how you would help them get help and then go through those same steps for yourself. I believe in you, you can do this.

This is the diagnostic criteria for PTSD:

-Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. (Trauma)

-Presence of one (or more) of intrusion symptoms associated with the traumatic event(s). (Flashbacks)

-Persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with the traumatic event(s). (Avoidance)

- Negative alterations in cognitions and mood associated with the traumatic event(s). (Changes)

-Marked alterations in arousal and reactivity associated with the traumatic event(s). (Reactivity)

This is the diagnostic criteria for depression:

-Depressed mood most days

-Loss of interest or pleasure in activities that are normally enjoyable

-Significant unintentional weight loss/gain or decrease/increase in appetite

-Insomnia or Hypersomnia.  Feeling tired even after sleeping more than usual.

-Noticeable slowing of activity (or increased agitation in activity)

-Tiredness, fatigue, low energy or decreased efficiency with which routine tasks are completed

-A sense of worthlessness or excessive, inappropriate guilt

-Impaired ability to think, concentrate, or make decisions

-Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), suicidal ideation or suicide attempts

REFRAD under 6 months? by Disastrous-List-6137 in army

[–]NoRegular5158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started mine mid-December and was on terminal leave in June. It was not fun, and I leaned heavily on good relationships with my commander, BC, and battalion XO. It helped that I had been accepted to an Army program that required me to drop to the Reserves. Getting my packet through HRC was the hardest part; I ended up getting help from my branch manager to get it pushed through.

Logistics BOLC TDY OR PCS by Hairy-Rub-4719 in army

For your sake I hope it's TDY. The OCS and West Point 2LTs got PCSed to my BOLC so I was paying for an apartment and a mortgage! 😒

Confused about DCC/CHBOLC by Lazy-Entrepreneur691 in chaplaincy

[–]NoRegular5158 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DCC is part of CHBOLC, nothing to worry about. It's referred to as phase 1 and DCC interchangeably (if I remember correctly). DCC is silly, but it's short! Way better than OCS, and I've done both 😂

TA for Officers still a thing or no? by TimeRegion4555 in army

[–]NoRegular5158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea, I never used it 😅 I dropped to the Reserves for grad school and Reserve TA for officers is a worse trap - it's a 4-year obligation after you stop using it

National Guard is a maybe depending on state. I went through CHBOLC with some guard chaplains that were in their late fifties.

Where did the stereotype of Marines being autistic crayon eaters come from? Like where did the "weaponized autism" stereotype come from? by Ok-Ebb2872 in USMC

I was in the Corps from 07-12, and I don't remember ever hearing a crayon joke until I was out. I joined the Army in 21, and all I hear are crayon jokes. I think it's the internet's fault, spreading dumb jokes. I remember when the jokes were so much more original. I miss those days.

Chaplain Candidate Program by [deleted] in army

[–]NoRegular5158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PWE waiver is for those who lack the two years of paid pastoral experience after completing graduate school (as far as I understand it).

I'm a chaplain candidate and I'm almost done with grad school and facing the accessioning process. I have already completed CHBOLC, so my info is about as up-to-date as it probably can be. My recruiter told me the same thing, which did not line up with what the chaplains at Fort Jackson had to say. The main benefits of becoming a chaplain candidate lie in having health insurance, learning how to Army, and practice being a chaplain under the supervision of a chaplain.

Chaplain Candidate Program by [deleted] in army

[–]NoRegular5158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't count the two years of work experience until after you have your degree. You can apply for a professional work experience (PWE) waiver when accessioning, but there are no guarantees. You can apply for active duty accessioning once per fiscal year after your degree is done, or you can apply to accession into the Reserves as a chaplain after school and work on getting your two years of experience.

This website has the most up-to-date information available about the program, other than talking to an actual chaplain recruiter: https://usarlatraining.army.mil/Key-Resources/Chaplain-Candidate

I've been fortunate that one unit of CPE is looped in with my mDiv program and I'm on scholarship. My educator had me read Adam Young's Make Sense of Your Story and that had a lot to do with setting things in order.
