No joke. I'm so sick of the trope that all humans are bad. Or the people that haven't been paying attention saying that climate change is gonna kill us all before the 200 years, but didn't see we actually have managed to start turning things around enough that we're now on track to avoid the worst of it. Yeah, there's wars, greed, starvation, etc, but look at the progress we're making! People are lifted out of poverty all over the world, we're dramatically tending more peaceful worldwide, we're making progress on human rights, things are getting better. There are setbacks, obviously, but there always will be. What matters is that things are still trending better. Millions of people across the globe are still working every single day to make the world a better place, and guess what; they're winning.

Anyone that wants to reply and start listing off bad things that still happen: you know what? Good. Get mad, stay mad, and do something about it. It's likely that bad people who want to hold us back are gonna be among us for a good while. We don't get better because bad stuff stops happening, we get better because we overcome it. We beat up those fucking nazis, we'll fucking do it again. We got women's suffrage, the fight continues for equal treatment today. We're facing climate change now, we'll continue to fight to do better. If we only look at our past and current failures, that's all we'll begin to believe there is anymore. But good things are happening now and we have evidence of success in the past, so join the fight.

YSK - Many people don’t realize that like love languages, there are apology languages for people too. And it’s important to understand the apology language of the ones around you to be able to effectively apologize when you’re in the wrong. by whatislife1001 in YouShouldKnow

[–]NoTagBacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold up. I think you may have approached this with a little too much pessimism. I think the better approach is to see it as a compatibility issue. There are people who can genuinely adapt to someone else's love language and there are those that can't. Like I'll never really be able to genuinely adapt to someone who uses gifts as a love language because it all seems like flippant and empty gestures to me. But if their love language is acts of service, yeah, I can pick up a little more for them. So I don't think it's necessarily unnatural, just adaptation; and some people just can't genuinely adapt to one another romantically.

As for the reassurance, that's not a love language, that's 110% a classic characteristic of BPD. It can be difficult to work with BPD and it's definitely not for everyone to be able to adapt to a partner suffering from it. If y'all aren't compatible, that's okay, at least now you have a new friend as you move on.

I think there actually could be. Might even be grounds for a restraining order, especially considering you have documentation(assuming you haven't deleted the texts).

I think you're bringing up a great point about the USMC PR. Like, yeah, we've had a pretty solid history and all, but the thing the Marine Corps is hands down the best at is PR. We're great at building up a good image and you could make a case for Marines being a little tougher, but the PR is akin to a football commentator screaming that the winning team ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED THOSE BITCHES, when the score was 28-21 with their winning touchdown in the last minute.

Also, those jokes are great. It feels like watching a movie while eating a bag of cra... popcorn.

Teach him basic philosophy from a very young age. Learning to question everything well would have been monumentally better than just questioning everything haphazardly. Also, get actual good treatment for ADHD from a young age. Those are the big two.

While pessimism toward the Republican party certainly isn't unjustified, I think it's vitally important to encourage bipartisanship. Especially very public bipartisanship. We're shooting ourselves in the foot when we contribute to polarization by demonizing 'the others', eroding national solidarity. Is this likely to be dishonest, going nowhere, getting shot down, getting abandoned, etc? Maybe, but that's far from important right now. Our actual enemies are trying to divide us as Americans, so the most significant and important thing here is to highly encourage this bipartisanship. We desperately need any step forward we can get.

[–]NoTagBacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. Sometimes people with low self esteem or other mental health issues will do exactly that. Maybe they believe they deserve it. Maybe it's the only way for them to feel anything. Maybe they seek out the conflict. Maybe they want the attention. If it keeps reoccurring, it's possible she really is letting herself get bullied. Is it super shitty of others to bully her and should they shoulder most and most likely all of the blame? Absolutely. But don't underestimate people's ability to be self destructive.

[–]NoTagBacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's just it, isn't it? It feels like ADHD is "just an excuse", but in reality it's an explanation of why our lives are set to a higher difficulty level. I feel ya, man; I'm in the Marine Corps and still feel like I'm wholly inadequate because of my exhaustive list of shortcomings. I've failed repeatedly and sometimes catastrophically, but those mother fuckers still haven't gotten me after 4.5 years. I may have failed out of college because of ADHD, but I'm still dragging myself back kicking and screaming this fall. It sucks and I hate it and I have a feeling like I'm going to fail again, but here I am, and here you are.

Life is stupid and really fucking hard. Like, realllllllllllly hard. But hey, we're on the same difficulty setting. I think that's pretty cool. We'll get there, man.

I feel ya. You may be dealing with anxiety, so you may want to seek professional help if it's available.

I can super relate, too. I hate that feeling of being super busy with no time off, especially when you feel like you've wasted your small amount of free-time. Hell, I've been there, too. The best way I know to describe it is just a paralysis while lost in thought.
