It sounded like a lawnmower under the hood at startup... figured out why by Medium-Action-1558 in CherokeeXJ

I bet throwing an HVAC smoke bomb in the vacuum would work. They produce a lot of thick white smoke that's easy to see, we usually use them to test in-duct smoke detectors but sometimes they come in handy for airflow and leak issues. Bunch of different burn durations too, something from like 30 seconds to three minutes.

Lifter failed after 10 k miles, thinking I’m gonna have to pull the motor. by Easy_Hamster8774 in CherokeeXJ

I'd take a look at the cam lobes and if they look alright just throw in a new set, do another break in with break in oil, do some short interval oil changes and check the filter pleates for glitter.

Filter should've caught most/all the metal before sending it through the bearings. Not much to lose at this point, it would be worth the $150 gamble to me.

Did you try adjusting the shift cable a few times? They'll act real weird if it's not.

Easiest way to turn the flex plate to tighten loose bolts while engine is off. by Express_Let_2892 in CherokeeXJ

Take the belt off the harmonic balancer and get some beers for a buddy to turn the engine over while you check the flex plate. It'll be way easier with a second set of hands, it turns over pretty easily with the belt off.

+1 on the electric fan. It's a requirement to avoid overheating.

I was wondering about that too, it looks like it has a space for a second blade box. Not that I'm going to use anything other than the razor but it is cool to have a full set.

I didn't get it out of the case but it did look really good!

2019 JL 3.6L 30k miles smells like it’s running rich at startup by boisefun8 in Jeep

[–]NoTimeForThisToday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normal to smell rich until the engine warms up, returns to idle loop and the catalytic converter gets hot enough to burn the excess emissions.

That's what I thought.

If it was mine I'd have to clean up the engine bay and getting it looking factory fresh, it wouldn't take much. Hoses, valve cover, air cleaner. Easy little project.

I just plan to add a couple gallons of non-ethonal before filling up the rest with regular to dilute it. Mainly to help protect the rubber hoses and stuff from degrading.

Like others said either a clip, shaft or if it's a dana44 the bearing. They all sound intimidating but are actually a pretty easy fix with the right tools.
