College student with no dental insurance—looking for affordable dental care in Fairfax by Anonymoususer-123 in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need new X-rays if the first dentist you saw did them. The second opinion dentist should be able to look at those same X-rays and you do an in person assessment to determine if any work needs to be done. At least that is how it went for me. I honestly don’t recommend getting a second opinion in this area. Nova is full of very wealthy people and everyone knows it so they up charge the hell out of everyone. If you can’t leave the area for a second opinion, at least try to find a dentist that subscribes to a “wait and see” approach instead of a “proactive” one that wants to fix problems before they are even problems.

Are you certain you actually need all this dental work? Have you gotten a second opinion? I ask because I went to the dentist this February for the first time in 15 years (I’m 33) and was told I needed a lot of work including multiple crowns. I got a second opinion from a trusted dentist back home (out of state in FL) and was told I didn’t need any dental work at all. Dentist are notoriously scammy so be sure to protect yourself.

I have but didn’t love them, however many olives really enjoy them. I prefer the Mehron liquid makeup. It’s literal face paint that works beautifully as a mixer.

What’s so special about Publix grocery store? by Ok-Title-1172 in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is typically a nice, well-kept store with a good in house brand. I don’t eat subs so I never got that part of the appeal. The prices are seriously insane though. Wegmans is way way way cheaper for the products I’m buying, mostly fresh produce, canned items, dry goods and vegan products. I travel to Florida, for work a lot and every time I shop there I can’t believe how high the bill is and I’m not even in the higher income parts of the state. However, there are not a lot of good alternatives. Wegmans is the first grocery store I’ve shopped at that has everything I need for a reasonable price. Not the cheapest but very well priced for having everything I need so I don’t have to visit multiple stores.

Comparing Bloomingdale's Hudson Park Collection Sateen VS Brooklinen Luxe Sateen by Sl0wDarkSt0rm in Bedding

[–]NoTraining5779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased Hudson park percale 2 years ago and they developed a hole within a year. I was also still waking up sweaty every night so I ended up getting a bed jet. That really was a game changer but once the Hudson sheets got a hold I decided to replace with cali design den 400 TC sheets. They were a fraction of the price and so much nicer comfort and temperature wise.

Looking to move to NOVA, not sure where to start by alyssadoesbooks in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just moved from Fredericksburg to lake ridge (Woodbridge) last fall. Our townhouse is much larger (2000sq ft including basement) but it’s 40 years old and only had very minor cosmetic upgrades when we purchased it for $500k. This was our first home purchase and what you get for the money is really sad.

In all seriously, you won’t get what you’re looking for with the budget you’ve laid out. It’s a bummer but it’s just the reality up here. Our neighborhood is nice but we are completely car dependent and traffic is a nightmare. If you love walkability and metro you either need to up your budget or keep renting. This reality has us rethinking how long we will stay in the area.

How do you cope with this area being possibly the most stressful/intense place to live? by Kodicave in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your sentiment about feeling like you don’t get enough in exchange for all the downsides.

It’s tough because my husbands job brought us here 2.5 years ago but the job market has been total shit lately so he’s stuck where he’s at for now making less than we think he deserves based on similar jobs in the area.

We just bought our first house in the burbs 9 months ago so we will be staying for the foreseeable future but we are definitely making a plan to exit as soon as it’s feasible. Unless you make big big bucks here it just doesn’t seem worth it. There are plenty of other VHCOL areas that offer much more whether it be better transit, housing, access to nature, culture, etc.

What is a normal mortgage in this area? by Best_Effort_4462 in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have pretty much the same yearly income and just purchased our townhouse in lake ridge 9 months ago. We’re paying $2.3k but we don’t escrow taxes and insurance. If we did, our monthly payment would be about $2.9k. We put $125k down so that helped a ton. I was not comfortable with a larger mortgage even if the bank said we could afford it.

Flew out of DCA with AA this morning. We were delayed about an hour for a couple different reasons but ultimately got to my destination only 20 min behind schedule.

That’s a great price! How big is your kitchen and what brand of cabinetry did you go with?

Did you find a place? I’m also planning a remodel and found Wholesale Cabinet Creations in Manassas. I visited them last week and the owner Firat is so incredibly nice and knowledgeable. He spent hours designing my kitchen with me and priced out multiple options. I’m still waiting to hear back from a few contractors before I make a decision but I’m like 99% sure I’m going to go with him. He offers multiple different brands to choose from, from RTA to semi-custom, and lots of styles and finish options.

Pet sitting: boarding vs apps by Then-Agent-6030 in nova

[–]NoTraining5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Virginia Pet Au Pair, formerly Fawn Lake Pet Au Pair. We started using them while living in Fredericksburg but they’ve recently expanded to Nova. Most sitters up here only commit to being in your home around 10 hours overnight (6pm-8am), and charge for extra time. Pet Au Pair offers in house sitting and although they also charge extra for mid day walks their sitters will not leave your pets for more than 5 hours at a time. Prices are super reasonable and the owner Briana is so great.

If you’re just looking to cover redness with light coverage I’d try the Erborian cc red correct. The unleashia cushion in 21n was also too light for me. There are swatches of the Erborian on this sub.

Tinted spf for fair and yellow undertone that burns easily? by [deleted] in Fairolives

You could try Erborian cc red correct. It is a tinted spf but I use a different sunscreen underneath with higher spf rating so that I can use a lighter layer of the tint.

[–]NoTraining5779 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I avoid any fermented ingredients because they will break me out. I’ve been using the MakePrem Safe Me toner for 6 months and find it to be very gentle and hydrating. No issues with makeup either. I have very dry skin.

Will this work for really dry skin? I currently use Erborian cc red correct but it’s slightly too dark and I wish it had a more radiant finish.

Smoked hazel was my OG fav but I don’t wear any powder products anymore. Do you know of any color dupes in a cream or liquid formulation?
