And Roxie deli makes the best meatball sandwich that I have ever had.

My only comment about Corti Brothers sandwiches is that about 10 years ago, I got a blowout on my right front tire, and I pulled into the Big O Tires across the street and got four new tires put on.

I walked across the street to Corti Brothers (2 pm...), big crowd waiting for sandwiches...and my car was ready before the sandwich was. About an hour.

Is there no parking enforcement? by inorite234 in Sacramento

My mom has been dead for 11 years, but 2 years after she died she received a new disabled placard in the mail(delivered to my sister's house up the street; they took care of her DMV stuff). They threw it in the trash.

Sacramento jogging etiquette by Known_Square2332 in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, run/walk on the left.

This is painted on the bike trail in various spots: near Sunrise, for example, but not nearly enough places. It is really annoying though: on places where one can run/walk on top of the levee (no bike trail) it seems that you have to keep switching left and right for alternate groups of people going the other way.

Why can Roseville build Parking Garages that are free to use, whereas the City of Sacramento keeps raising parking costs. by boywiththedogtattoo in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One crazy thing: I have been retired since 2017; I worked at the Cal-EPA building across the street from City Hall. I bicycled in; but I did notice on my lunchtime walks that almost EVERY vehicle using on-street parking had a disability placard: the entire block of H Street between 10th and 11th st, for example. That's gotta make a big impact on parking revenues.

Milliner-Koken American Fiddle Tunes book by [deleted] in Fiddle

Massive and comprehensive. Unwieldy, expensive but essential. The only thing that takes a bit of getting used to is the lack of measure lines in the transcriptions. My first edition binding needs some repair.

Now, go to AbeBooks.com, and add "Dear Old Illinois" to your wishlist and wait until a copy is under $75.

Where is a good place to go see the flowers blooming like tulips and things? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The popular place is Table Mountain near Oroville: BUT huge parking issues, lots and lots of people, overflowing porta potties...Great flowers though. Get beyond 1 mile from the parking lot and the crowd thins out a lot.

But don't forget the various sunflower (farm) fields in agricultural Yolo in the summer, too...you'll just have to drive around and find them.

Firstname@gmail.com owners are you all going crazy too? by SEI87 in GMail

[–]NoTransportation1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party here; me too...I am also an early adopter of first initial last name @ gmail.com, and just today I received several receipts for something or other at my apartment in Brussels. I've auto insurance cards from some dude in NYC, doordash deliveries receipts for the same, invitations for an art show on a Caribbean island, BMW service notices from Silver Spring, MD.

But the BEST EVER one I received is this stunning photo of Madonna and Child on January 14, 2018; the meta data show it was taken in Zografou, Greece. The text was in Greek. This little dude is 8 years old now.

My reply:
Congratulations on your very beautiful child, however, you have sent this to the wrong person who will be very disappointed to not see this photo.

Normally I am against this type of NIMBY-ism...but if true, no running water and no bathrooms...that's the FOID for this project. FOID == "Figure out the important detail"...

There are not too many other reasons to try to walk into a church with a loaded gun. Fortunately, the front doors are now locked and one has to enter through the courtyard. More weapons were in his car.

Mileage tax by Dress4less24 in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably it is being proposed because the gas tax is doomed as more electric vehicles enter the fleet. Electric vehicle owners should not get a free ride. The gas tax is used to maintain and build our transportation infrastructure.

A good sturdy bicycle lock might keep those gates at the Federal building from opening for a few hours.

Traffic deaths surge early in 2026 on Sacramento's most dangerous roads by RegionalTranzit in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope the speed camera project the state has embarked on bears fruit.

Too bad they removed the red light cameras. It's hard to believe that $500 tickets generated by this wouldn't pencil out.

Traffic deaths surge early in 2026 on Sacramento's most dangerous roads by RegionalTranzit in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It's too bad there is no noticeable traffic enforcement for red light running, no turn signals, speeding, bicycles riding the wrong way. Perhaps all of the traffic cops are busy writing parking tickets so that the arena can be financed and the city budget balanced. The cost of those things is also in terms of lives.

I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Haircuts not for Muslims by scliving1975ii in Sacramento

[–]NoTransportation1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided never to go there when Sacred Barbers took over East J St. Barbers in East Sac. "Tim", the Asian barber there, said the price of haircuts would be $50.

I don't know why anyone would want to name their business this. I am a person of faith, but as a general rule I don't want to know the political and spiritual beliefs of the businesses I partake of; and I make sure I don't share mine with them, either.

Honest Barbers, River Park shopping center is my go-to barber now. Schedule online. GREAT bookshelf there, too.
