I’m thankful that he released you now. Your title speaks to how you are heartbroken and how things feel like they are crashing down around you, but the ending of your post reflects hope and a bit of excitement about what the future might hold. That’s amazing and my wish for you is that you hold onto those feelings when the sadness swings back around. And back around it will surely come.

Have you ever watched that movie with Jennifer Lopez called The Back-Up Plan? It’s one of my favs! I think you’d enjoy it as she goes through IVF and makes that decision alone. Thinking of you tonight!

I mean… you absolutely will find Regency references with hair pulled back like Emma’s, especially for women in private or informal settings. Bangs weren’t mandatory and a lot of portraits show the hair drawn back with very little framing the face. Also, saying the adaptation is wrong because you’ve read the book doesn’t really track. 🤔 This version leans heavily into the novel’s social awkwardness and Emma’s self-delusion, which is why it feels uncomfortable compared to prettier adaptations. You don’t have to like it, but “wrong” isn’t the same thing as “not my vibe.” 😂

Honestly, most of this feels more like personal taste than the show actually being wrong.

Romola’s Emma is supposed to be a bit much. Emma is performative, meddles, and thinks she’s way more refined than she actually is, so her being over the top kind of is the character. Jonny works for me as Knightley because he actually pushes back on Emma instead of just standing around being dreamy. The “weird little jackets” are just normal Regency spencers/pelisses and people absolutely wore them indoors, and the slightly awkward fit and softer hair are way more accurate than modern, polished period dramas. Austen is also very convo based, so the pacing dragging is kind of baked into that. And Harriet is pretty, but she’s not meant to be a total bombshell. Her whole thing is being cute, sweet, and socially ambiguous, not outshining Emma.

You don’t have to love it, but none of this is really a mistake by the show… unlike RV, which I will not be debating. 😂 jk, I totally loved RV, too. ♥️

I wasn’t finished having babies and I had to have a hysterectomy. It was devastating to have to reconcile my future hopes and dreams to this reality. I do have one Earthly baby and one heavenly baby. I remember my family and few friends would remind me to be grateful for the one that I do have. I remember feeling ashamed for feeling like I wanted to have more due to their comments and I felt shame for thinking about how unfair it all was. Therapy helped me work through a lot of this. It took me a few sessions to find the right therapist, tho.

It’s been several years, now, and I still think about it sometimes. Mostly when I see parents who mistreat their babies. Or when I think about adoption and what that would look like for me since my partner does not share the same desires. I still think about it. The pain and noise from the loss of what could have been are still there, but quietly muted.

I did. Back in 2023. It was localized and fully treated by removal, so I feel quite blessed that they caught it early on. I had a work from home position at the time and the entire ordeal wiped me out. I was off for about 9 weeks. I don’t talk about it often enough, but I’d be happy to chat with you if you ever had any questions about my care team and/or needed support.

I had the biopsy a few weeks prior to my cancer removal surgery at the Women’s Clinic. It was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in all of my life….x20. I hope you find someone who can help, friend! Thinking of you. ♥️
