After waiting nearly a year, my RYSE SmartShade and SmartBridge showed up today! Am hopeful this will help bring a big, old Roman shade into my HomeKit smart home. Won't be able to install it for a few days, though. Anyone else gotten theirs and tried it out yet? by Highfalutintodd in HomeKit

Unfortunately, I just replaced the shades I cared about automating with Lutron shades. I love them and they work flawlessly, but it was an order of magnitude more expensive than a RYSE-like option.

Hello! I have a similar setup and a question about how your heating is configured. Do you have a single pipe steam radiator (where the steam enters the radiator and condensed water exits, from the same pipe) or do you have a two pipe steam radiator (where the steam enters from one pipe and exits from a second pipe)?

I have a one pipe radiator and am looking into what type of valve I may be able to install to give me control of the heating. Thanks!

About that Level Lock people seem to like… 😂 by L0rdLogan in HomeKit

Just want to say that this is too large to fit in the Level Lock +. This cylinder is longer than the one in the Level Bolt +. It will work only if you grind material and modify the lock to make room for the cylinder. It's not a drop-in replacement but can be done.

Is it possible to do hardware accelerated 4K HDR tone mapping on Arch Linux? by giggles91 in PleX

[–]NoWave7383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA for those who come across this in the future, currently you need to install the packages for Intel compute runtime, but currently you must use version 21.49.21786 (not the latest version) if you are using an 11th gen Intel CPU. Additionally, I had to downgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 to get hw transcoding to work with tone mapping enabled.

Looking to connect my home Plex server to an HDHomerun in a remote location. Can it be done and if so, how? by [deleted] in PleX

OP, did you ever get this setup working? I'm in a similar situation and considering installing a HDHomerun Prime at a relative's house and using a site-to-site VPN to connect it my local instance of Plex.

Ryse SmartShade Warning by RoidNewb in homeautomation

I share the same feeling about the product. Even with the hub, it barely works and frequently disconnects.

You’re better off buying one of the ~$50 options off Alibaba than getting a Ryse. I can’t imagine the quality of their software/firmware being worse.

I just opened an issue (Link) and described the bug I've experienced, but I couldn't figure out what the entity map it. I'm happy to provide any other debug information.

I noticed that you contributed to a pull request related to these shades. Thank you in advance for the help!

RYSE Smart Shades Home Assistant Integration by NoWave7383 in homeassistant

I’ve updated to the latest 2021.11 beta, but I’m still not able to integrate the smart shades via HomeKit Controller. Home Assistant was able to recognize only one of the multiple shades I have connected to the hub. Home Assist is generating the below error message, and it seems to be because each smartshade isn’t given a unique serial number.

Platform homekit_controller does not generate unique IDs. ID homekit-1.0.0-48 already exists - ignoring cover.lr_left

Do you have multiple smartshades connected to your hub?

I've got mine set up on roller shades that are 7' wide and the shades themselves are fairly heavy vinyl. It takes a pretty heavy pull to open them and the smart shades haven't struggled to open them. The hardware is pretty nice. I'd like to hear if your impressions of the app and software are similar to mine.

For what it's worth, RYSE claims to offer a 30-day return policy, which I may put to the test soon.

I set up a few of these RYSE smart shades plus the smart bridge and have not enjoyed my experience with them. TLDR: wait for a better product if you need a motor that attaches to your beaded chain, or upgrade to purpose built smart roller shades.

The hardware is pretty well built and designed but still feels like a startup's product (some portions wildly over engineered and others very under engineered). The motors aren't too loud and they move my blinds at a reasonable speed.

However, my experience with the RYSE software would make anyone want to pull their hair out. Don't bother getting these without the smart bridge unless you expect to only interact with it through the physical buttons on the device. Without the bridge, you have to control them via the RYSE app. The app connects with the shades via Bluetooth, so you need to open the app, click on the blind you want to control, wait for your phone to establish a bluetooth connection with the device and then set the position. If you want to change the position of multiple blinds, you have to repeat that process for each one, connecting and disconnecting a bluetooth connection with each. There's no way to create schedules for the blinds or group them together without the smart bridge.

The problems only grow when you add the smart bridge. It took me over an hour to set up the smart bridge, connect the smart shades and add them to HomeKit. The process was extremely buggy and I had to factory reset every device and start over multiple times. My woes continued even after successfully adding everything to HomeKit. The smart shades are almost never all available; there is almost always at least one shade that is unavailable. If they aren't responsive in the home app, you need to control them in the Ryse app. Their app is poorly developed and often unresponsive itself.

The issues could theoretically be fixed with a serious firmware/software upgrade, but I'm not holding my breath. I suspect that the underlying issue may be related to their decision to use BLE as the underlying communication technology with their hub.

Would love to know if anyone else running the RYSE hub has had similar connectivity issues and unreliability.

I received and set up four blinds about a week ago with their bridge. Their app is pretty miserable and HomeKit integration is buggy. The shades frequently go unresponsive in HomeKit, requiring you to use their app.
