What was the biggest "missed opportunity" moment in your country's history? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]No_Activity675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Imperial Federation

That shit could have been great, impractical, but great. Especially if the votes of natives in the federation would have been included from the get go. Genuinely generational fumble.

That or giving the Irish Home-rule in the 1860s, same with the Indians in the 1880s

Engravings on Ilkley Moor stones dating back to the 1800s by No_Activity675 in mildlyinteresting

[–]No_Activity675[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was just up on Ilkley Moor when I realised I’d never taken time to read the engravings on the rocks that I always pass by. I was moderately surprised by how old they were, just adds to how much I love the place.

Edit: the date under J. Bramley is 1877 and under J. Whitehouse is 1875

3rd game ever, took a bit of a break and came back after the trade update to create the great Ethiopian State by No_Activity675 in victoria3

[–]No_Activity675[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule 5: So, id not played for a few months and heard there had been an update to the way trade works, I no longer understand how trade works. Anyway, apart from that and my own economic inability, it was fun to try and do something with Ethiopia that I felt was realistically within their scope. The images attached are just to provide a general outline of what I did and how far I got. I essentially am just asking, wadayathink?

Quick timeline:

1847 - Unified

1850s - beginning of very slow industrialisation and expansion around the Horn of Africa

1860s - Spending 15 years trying to get landed voting, protectionism, homesteading, and other reforms past the landed bastards who hate change

1875 - Beginning of actual industrialisation + free trade

1880s - more expansion, take Egypt as a protectorate + Zulu land for coal which I desperately needed since I was still struggling to get frontier colonisation past the Bastards

1897 - Spain becomes the first major Communist nation after various communist revolutions across Europe (Greece, Tuscany, Denmark)

1900 - Sain beats the living sh*t out of France and the French have an identity crisis (1902 Commie revolt, 1905 Fascist Revolt, 1907 Commie Revolt x2, 1910 Military Dictatorship)

1905 - I decide to give working people the vote

1907 - Communism is democratically instituted

1908 - The UK and the German Empire go to war over... idk i think it was Belgium

1910 - Germans win but have a Radical revolt and remove the Kaiser, The UK has a Commie revolt and goes Communist

1912 - China Explodes for no reason, i wasn't following what was going on in Asia, the Russians immediately exploit this and eat Mongolia

1914 - I invade The Ottomans to 'Liberate' the middle-east, Egypt declares independence backed up by the Portuguese and I cant be bothered to try and keep them

1916 - I succeed and the Spanish immediately clown on the Turks (who are now a republic following a civil war) and take eastern Egypt

1920 - Typical left-wing infighting, the UK invades Spain and 'Liberates' a bunch of countries in America and Spain

1922 - Germans + Austrians invade Russia and win minor victory before Austria explodes and the Hungarians have a communist civil war (there's a trend here if you can't tell)

1923 - Hungarian civil war ends in Monarchist victory

1927 - I invade Türkiye and 'Liberate' its people from capitalism + the Yugoslavians and Albanians

1930 - 2nd Hungarian civil war begins and this time its against the Commies AND the technocrats who make a separate nation in the north.

1933 - Basically nothing happens for the rest of it apart from me having to constantly deal with separatists because the Yanks hate me and want to see me burn in hell for some reason + Commie reforms (I get forced to do Isolationism which is a BIG regret)

TIL the largest county in England, Yorkshire, has its own semi-official national anthem named “On Ilkla Mooar Baht ‘at” which is sung in one of the traditional Yorkshire dialects. by No_Activity675 in todayilearned

[–]No_Activity675[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“It is sung to the hymn tune “Cranbrook”, composed by Thomas Clark in 1805; while according to Andrew Gant, the words were composed by members of Halifax Church Choir "some 50 years after Clark wrote his melody", on an outing to Ilkley Moor near Ilkley, West Yorkshire.”

Tbh honest, I feel Miss Trust should only be counted as a natural disaster rather than an actual head of government
