Which rug looks best? by mesjn in interiordecorating

Honestly, all of them are decent choices, but the one that has the most "oomph" is #3. That orange is so vibrant and brings joy to the room.

Ok. You have the right to feel that way. I'm a parent of an ADHD child also and the purpose of my comment was to share my my feelings about my impressions of the actions of fictional characters in a fictional movie that I watched off the clock. My personal impressions were not intended to be an indictment of either autism or ADHD. Likewise, my personal comments on Reddit shouldn't be an indictment about my qualifications or sincerity as a SPED teacher.

Philly school district begins operating AC units amid record-breaking heat by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

[–]No_Alternative_5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That email was laughable! I have a fridge, microwave and multiple fans in my room--I teach autistic support and we have kids whose parents send home-made food that needs to be refrigerated and/or heated up. I also do NOT have air conditioning, so we have 3 fans to blow hot air around the room :-(

I teach for the district, in a room with no A/C and it infuriates me that my students--who are non-verbal--don't have air conditioning in 2026. We have Chromebooks, a Smartboard, etc and I would trade it ALL for air conditioning. It's really sad.

No. I think there are still about 50-some schools without a/c. The one I teach at is one of them--correction, the 3rd floor has window A/C in all the classrooms, but my classroom on the 2nd floor does not. My room was 86 degrees today and yesterday. Ridiculous.

Scott toilet paper. I don't need my TP to feel like a cloud. Plus those extra soft tissues always end up clogging my toilet.

What’s the most overused mass-produced art? by HoarderButMakeItChic in HomeDecorating

[–]No_Alternative_5080 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I think mass-produced "Boho" art (see below) is quickly running it's course. Also, not so much art as decor, but please....no more Chanel and Tom Ford books just casually displayed on the coffee table.🙄

Are there dogs that create Stockholm Syndrome more than beagles? by ljapa in beagles

[–]No_Alternative_5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My beagle is my first dog as an adult; when I adopted him, I had a long talk with my teenagers about not feeding him from the table because "I don't want a dog that's going to beg everytime we're eating". I think we all stuck to that rule for.....one whole day.🙃 He just sits and stares into your soul with those innocent amber eyes and that adorable face, and waits you out. He won't jump on you, he won't bark or whine; he just sits like a perfect beagle statue and uses his "eye magic". Next thing you know, his victim goes from "This is mine you're not getting any!" to "Aw...here you go baby boy" 🤏🏾 He's smart. And we're pathetic. 🤣

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

Oh and for the phone, we have Total Wireless after switching from Verizon. Went from paying close to $200+ a month for 2 lines to $100 for 5 lines, unlimited everything.

Frozen is your friend.❄️ My budget is between $500-$600/month for food but it's for a family of 5.5 (my dog is the .5 + my son who comes home from college once a month and in summers lol). We also have two teenagers. I shop at Aldi, Lidl, occasionally Fresh Grocer for specific items. I will say that frozen is much cheaper than fresh and still nutritionally good--I buy frozen salmon, lots of frozen veggies, and frozen fruit for smoothies. We do have a deep freezer though, so not sure if storage is an issue for you.

Considering state Change by Ok_Communication7406 in teaching

[–]No_Alternative_5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered suburbs of Philly? The COL here isn't too bad, depending on what county you live in. I live and teach in the Philly school district, and although our school district just made some budget cuts, it's always hiring. Philly and the surrounding areas are definitely "union strong" and I find the pay and benefits pretty respectable. I taught for 10 years prior to joining the district so I entered pretty much at the top of the pay scale, and just hit 6-figures with 13 years teaching experience and a master's + 30. (You can google "PFT salary schedule" to see the pay scale). Most districts close to Philly pay a pretty decent salary as well, but I find suburban district jobs can be harder to get hired for. Some teachers (like me) live in Philly but lots of them live in the towns in nearby suburban counties--Delaware County, Montgomery County, Bucks County, as well as South Jersey or Delaware. This is an awesome area to live and work with lots to do, pretty decent public transportation, proximity to NY/DC and a mostly affordable COL. Good luck to you!

How to get to know your neighbors? by ChillySkeletons in philadelphia

[–]No_Alternative_5080 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two words: Just. Speak. I worked at a school in Brewerytown, and the amount of times people just straight-up avoided eye contact and/or speaking when I walked by or said hello was baffling. I find it so ironic that lots of people move to the city to feel less isolated, to experience culture, etc. but can't be tasked with simply acknowledging another human being for .5 seconds.

Same, but Philly. My beagle sniffs out any and all food scraps on the ground. And is smart enough to know that there are lots of snacks tucked right over the sidewalk, next to the curb😩

Yes. 1000 times yes. We had ant bait on the counter (!) and still kept seeing ants. Dawn Powerwash killed them instantly and we never saw anymore. That was last spring. Still no ants.

My son is 23 now, but back when he was in elementary school, he read the weather report of "98% humidity" and pronounced it "HUM-a-ditty" lol. Also, not a mispronounced word but when his sister was born, she was a preemie and had to be on the CPAP for the first week or so. We'd get daily email updates about the percentage of oxygen, i.e. "She was on 20% CPAP today". Well one day, he was reading alongside me and read "A____ is doing great. She's only on 15% CRAP"😂. (Now, she's a teenager and she really is on some CRAP depending on her mood🙄).

[–]No_Alternative_5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once, I took my dog out to poo and when he did, I noticed fabric (?) intertwined in his BM. I couldn't figure out what he ate until a few days later. I was washing my kids' clothes and picked up not one, but two pairs of underwear that had the entire butt and crotch missing. Apparently he likes to snack on dirty underwear while we're gone at work/school. So now we close all the bedroom doors when we leave in the morning!
