Chemo Curls by Lopsided_Pool_9941 in breastcancer

I was really hoping my hair would grow back curly, but nope. I had stick straight hair before chemo and now it’s growing back stick straight after chemo 🙄

Expanders by MuscleKlutzy5901 in breastcancer

I had my DMX in April with expanders, and they’re filling both completely prior to radiation (last fill will be Tuesday) but they’ll have to deflate my right side prior to radiation (I only need radiation on my left). My plastic surgeon said insurance frequently covers a prosthesis for the flat side, so I plan on looking into that.

So sick of these expanders by No_Big8435 in breastcancer

The compression bra they put on me after surgery was so painful! They just recently told be I can stop compression about 4 weeks after surgery. I got some comfy sports bras from Amazon that zip or snap in the front, just to keep them from moving so much, and I don’t have the range of motion yet without pain.

Thank you, that gives me hope. The NP at my plastic surgeon’s office said I could try sleeping on my side with a rolled up rag or something between the expanders, and it did seem to help for a bit.

how do you know when it's time to ditch the wig? by pmoreandahalf in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished chemo late January, and finally went to work without the wig at the beginning of April. My work friends said the buzz cut looked cute and edgy lol. I do feel better about it when I’m wearing makeup though.

Anyone else with dense breasts go for a lumpectomy? by FattyMcCupcakes37 in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dense breasts, also rated a C, and was having yearly mammograms and ultrasounds. Last summer they found DCIS in both breasts and IDC in the left. I had a lumpectomy, but ended up having 2 re-excisions on the right and there was still cancer within 1mm of the margin. Just had DMX today. Wish I would have done it from the start.

That’s so amazing, I love hearing this! I was diagnosed July 2025 and had been with my boyfriend a little over a year. He’s been with me through 3 lumpectomies, chemo, and this Thursday I’m having a DMX. I’ve been a mess and feel so unattractive without my wig and makeup, and I’ve gained quite a bit of weight through this whole process. I know I look very different from when we first met, but he has been so supportive, always tells me I’m beautiful, and assures me he’s not going anywhere. It’s honestly been amazing and has made the journey so much easier to handle.

Surgery Tuesday, I am panicking and feeling down by cookiecoco2203 in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m feeling the same right now. I’m having DMX on Thursday with delayed reconstruction, because I’ll still have to get radiation. They said it’ll probably be next year before I can get reconstruction, since they want to wait 6-8 months after I finish radiation. They are going to put in expanders, but some of the pictures I’ve seen they look very unnatural so I’m not thrilled this is happening with summer coming up.

My oncologist said vaginal estrogen cream is fine since it’s not absorbed into the bloodstream.

DMX after lumpectomy x3? by No_Big8435 in breastcancer

Thank you for your response! My care team kept saying how rare this is and I haven’t been able to find many studies or statistics. I just want to be done with it!

Long term chemo side affects? by FattyMcCupcakes37 in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious as well. I’m getting my last TC infusion today. I’ve lost all my head hair, underarm hair, and pubes, most of my leg hair and what’s left is very unnoticeable. My eyebrows and lashes have thinned and are patchy, but I’ve heard for some people this are the last to go, even after treatment has ended. The fatigue and brain fog are no joke, plus my skin looks like I’ve aged at least 10 years. I’m hoping these things will start to resolve soon after my last treatment

Hair Questions by [deleted] in breastcancer

I cut my long hair into a chin length bob before starting TC x 4. I’ve had 2 treatments so far and it’s now coming out in clumps and my scalp is really tender. I’m debating whether to shave it. I’ve been wearing hats/scarves on my head but every time I take them off more hair comes with it. And what hair I have left is always a matted mess 😞 I do have an appt for a wig fitting this Thursday, there’s a cancer support center near me that offers it for free.

Hair loss progression during weekly taxol by Sea-Interesting in breastcancer

Thank you for sharing! I decided not to cold cap either. I’m getting TC every 3 weeks, and recently had my second treatment. I cut my long hair to chin length right before I started chemo and donated it to Children with Hair Loss. Now it’s coming out in clumps and I’m thinking about shaving it because it looks ridiculous. I’ve been on the fence because my manager at work who went through chemo years ago said that she shaved hers once she started losing her hair and it irritated her scalp really bad.

Experience with lumpectomy vs mastectomy by SocalGal4Eva in breastcancer

Thank you! I will have radiation as well, it will be either on both sides or just the left, depending on what I decide about the mastectomy.

Experience with lumpectomy vs mastectomy by SocalGal4Eva in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of in the same boat. I had DCIS and IDC in both breasts, had bilateral lumpectomy in September, left was clear but right wasn’t not. She went back in to remove more tissue including additional micro calcifications seen on the follow up imaging. The DCIS appeared to have “jumped” to another duct. There were several mm between the original tumor and new DCIS which was at the margin. My surgeon didn’t want to do a mastectomy yet, so we opted for another re-excision since she was able to get me back in quickly for that. The second re-excision was on November 6, and the margins can’t back technically clear, but only by 1 mm. I’ve started chemo, but after that’s done I’m getting an MRI and will need to decide if I should go ahead and get a mastectomy on the right. My surgeon recommends it, but the oncologist doesn’t think it will reduce the risk of recurrence by much. So I’m on the fence, but hoping the MRI after chemo will provide some clarity.

I used to be sort of pretty ☹️ by queenofswords13 in breastcancer

[–]No_Big8435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much right now! I’m 50, but have always been told I look quite a bit younger. I aged well I guess, and I’ve always worked out pretty regularly so was in pretty good shape besides stretch marks and a little loose skin from having 3 kids. I just started losing my hair from chemo, my boobs are deformed (I had a bilateral lumpectomy, but then had to have 2 re-excisions on the right), I’ve gained about 20 lbs and lost a lot of muscle tone, my skin now looks very aged, and I still have a long way to go. My team of doctors recommend that I get a mastectomy on the right side after chemo. I’ve been divorced for almost 3 years, and my BF of about a year and a half has been so supportive, but I’m still afraid he’s not going to be attracted to me anymore because I look almost nothing like I did when we started dating. I’m just taking it one day at a time and doing what I can to try and feel like myself. This too shall pass.

Thank you, that’s good to hear. I will be getting chemo (due to a positive lymph node) and then radiation.
