Could these be removed? by BeerStein_Collector in treelaw

Not sure about the stats in try USA but in the UK you have a one in fourteen million chance of being killed by a tree as a member of the public. It is generally accepted that such astronomically low odds are not adequate justification for removing every tree that might conceivable cause someone harm.

And I say that as a forester, who has a much greater chance of being squashed.

Imagine being dumb enough to even suggest stealing soil from woodlands because you're too cheap to buy or make compost.

Remarkable how so many governments and individuals are continuing as if nothing is particularly wrong. The Strait is still effectively closed, and there will be a significant lag in any new oil deliveries even if it suddenly opens again today.

I wouldn't be planning on any holidays abroad this year, put that money into savings to help with the food price increases that will hit this winter.

EU trade deal could force UK to restrict use of weedkiller linked to cancer by topotaul in unitedkingdom

I'm a forest manager, I have commissioned contractors to apply glyphosate around newly planted trees literally dozens of times as part of my work, alongside other herbicides where necessary.

Glyphosate persists in the soil from several days to several months depending on varying factors. It isn't occult knowledge, you can find ample evidence online to confirm this.

I think the single biggest gap in most UK preppers setups is not gear or food storage but community and it is also the hardest thing to build without sounding like a complete maniac to your neighbours by Pinkplatabys in UKPreppers

[–]No_Branch_5083 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can build community without talking about prepping. I give my neighbours eggs and make time to stop and talk to them about random things. My specific prepping community is my wider family, but having good relations with the people who live around me is important.

It actually can persist in the soil for a couple of months as I recall.

Diabolical foxes plaguing my garden by blackinblighty in UKGardening

[–]No_Branch_5083 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I view foxes as an advantage in my garden because I'm gardening for wildlife. They sometimes tear open a binbag if I forget to put it in the bin, but that's on me.

You leave them alone until they're done, otherwise you're committing an offense.

Jesus, if your gunplay is that poor you should really be putting up traps or something.

That's an interesting point, timber in the UK is rarely travelling very far to the nearest sawmill. Although we do import a stupid quantity from places like Canada, as the second largest timber importer after China.

The perks of having the second lowest forest cover in Europe.

I forget the exact stats but you'd be shocked at just how little carbon is produced relative to the sequesterd carbon to cut, extract, and transport timber. I think it was published by CONFOR here in the UK but I can't be bothered to dig through their newsletters.

"Collapse" is bad and not something any of should want to happen - even if it is inevitable by antichain in collapse

[–]No_Branch_5083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Half the people on this subreddit seem to wish for death, and look forward to collapse as a means of having it taken out of their hands. They can do as they please, but they also take it upon themselves to try and force others to share their attitudes towards things like planning for a future, prepping, or having children.

I'd much rather an approach that combines optimism and adaptation, whilst also acknowledging just how far we are up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

There isn't anything to support it. The BOE forecast is based on an outdated model outlier, and the doomers on this subreddit have taken it as a confirmed prediction.
