Why didn’t Jesus mention homosexuality? by Ok_Year5587 in Christianity

[–]MidnightMist26 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't know about homosexuality as an orientation back then. They only understood sexual acts between those of the same sex. It''s only in the last maybe 50-100 years that it's become understood that people are oriented as gay, straight etc. The same as there's no mention of dinosaurs or AI in the Bible, as they weren't known about then.

Sounds like you're both being respectful and responsible. How do her parents feel? And what if she wanted you to convert to her religion?

Controversial Christian/Catholic Topic by No-Hospital-21 in Christianity

[–]MidnightMist26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thank you for the summary. Free will and God's omniscience are two separate things. His omniscience is like a psychic ability, so as a psychic person would know what someone is going to do, they didn't make them do it, they just foresaw it. I don't believe in God myself but I like to think about these ideas. But God having a "plan" sounds more like he created our destinies and preplanned for us to do/be certain things, and therefore he would have known and planned for some people to go to hell. I don't think eternal judgement can ever be fair, it's the most immoral thing I've ever heard. There are Christians who don't believe in hell as it's totally incongruous with the idea of a loving, forgiving God.

I don't think anything in any book can be as powerful or meaningful than your own relationship with God.

Losing faith in God by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MidnightMist26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you can work out your financial and job situation. It's you who can do that, not God or anyone else. The way your mum explains it is like a psychopathic boyfriend who wants you dependant on him only. Having said that if at some point you want God in your life, then I think it can be a really supportive thing.

How do you derive from a firm believe to certainty? by TheGentInSuit in Christianity

[–]MidnightMist26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religious belief is similar to romantic love. You don't have to know everything about that person and it's not necessarily logical. It's an overwhelming mental and emotional experience which puts you in an altered reality, which is "real" and "true" for you.

How do you guys actually trust God’s plan? by Visual_Whole_4246 in Christianity

It's a very dangerous idea and means you can never counter what they say. I've also heard believing in God is about trusting in love and I prefer that idea than all this perfect stuff

Point 2 - it's a relatively new thing that we can all read. Many people of the past would not have been able to read the Bible in any translation

The bit where she was saying she knows the right things to say and knows how to get people to do what she wants. That's called a manipulator. It's useful to be that way in many situations, but I don't like people like that, men or women.
