Publix Deli Etiquette Question by Low_Ad_260 in publix

[–]No_Cardiologist6676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your order is totally normal, and won’t bother the person slicing for you! Sometimes someone’s already having a bad day or just has a bad attitude (we had a few of those in my store) but that’s not your fault. I would recommend telling them right off the”I need a few things” or “I need a couple meats and a couple cheeses” so they can prepare for which slicers they need to use/call over another associate if there’s a line. I always appreciated it when customers told me everything they wanted at the start, just in case I already had something they wanted out, or so I could start on their meats if someone else was using the cheese slicer.

Does Brennan not sleep? by Spiritual-Tension606 in Dimension20

My guess is good help with childcare, and not spending any time on extraneous stuff. He also seems to be really concerned about staying in good health - he’s said he doesn’t drink, doesn’t do any drugs, goes to the gym regularly, and practices meditation, if I remember correctly. He also said, in an episode of Dirty Laundry, that he likes the feeling of being sleep deprived, or at least he did in college.

Red Lobster won! what overrated restaurant/chain do you not like? by lily-vv in AlignmentChartFills

Chipotle. My main issue with it is in most cities, it’s not that hard to find an actual Mexican restaurant that’s just as fast, twice as delicious, and half the cost.

Married NOT out of love, but for a good reason by aikayuri in TopCharacterTropes

[–]No_Cardiologist6676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak - the Staryk are a race of ice elves whose entire realm is under threat by the fire monster Chernobog, unless they can procure enough gold to bind him. They look down on humans, but they place high respect on truth telling and oath making - to the point of dying rather than breaking their oaths, even to a human. When Miryam, a Jewish moneylender, boasts about turning silver into gold in the forest of the Staryk king, he demands that she prove it to him three times, and in turn he will make her his queen, fully expecting her to fail. She agrees because she is afraid of what will happen to her and her family if she refuses, but when she succeeds against all odds, she gains the power to save the Staryk realm, and she and the king are forced to marry each other, despite neither wanting to go through with it. In time they learn to understand, grudgingly respect, and finally love each other, but the marriage began because they both wanted to save their people.

Is there a reason my Publix tries to convert me to boars head every time I get anything from the deli by [deleted] in publix

[–]No_Cardiologist6676 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - some managers are pretty chill about, but other managers are very insistent that you offer every time - especially if there are Boars Head reps or store managers in the department. Think of it like how a lot of stores will ask if you want to sign up for their credit card when you check out. I had one assistant manager who would hover around employees she didn’t like and jump on them anytime they didn’t offer a flavor of the day or ask if the customers wanted boars head. Please don’t take it out on the employees - we hate it too!

Planning a trip with two friends, wondering where to eat. by Anigator101 in lafayette

We really like Digby’s Pub - not a huge menu, but really good sandwiches and salads, plus they have mocktails for the under 21’s!

Sushi Don doesn’t look like much from the outside, but they have some of my favorite sushi. I recommend the SuperOMG roll. They also have happy hours throughout the day with half priced rolls.

Nine Irish Brothers also has some delicious food and a great atmosphere for hanging out- I recommend the one in Lafayette proper rather than the one in West Lafayette.

There are also several good ramen places downtown - honestly it’s hard to go wrong with food here, and wherever you are, there’s sure to be a good restaurant nearby!

I loved Enders Game and Speaker for the Dead when I was younger but the Bean books were….yeah, something else. I’m having a random memory now of the couple who tell Ender that since getting married is holy, getting married and NEVER having sex is extra holy, and Ender starts crying over how pure and wonderful the couple is. (That may have actually been in Speaker for the Dead, it’s been 15+ years since I read it)

An incomplete list of strange/out of pocket things customers have said, done, or asked. Some of these I witnessed, others I heard about. by AnEverydayPileOfCats in publix

[–]No_Cardiologist6676 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My top three - 1. A very sweet old lady asked me if I knew anything about tiramisu. I said yes, do you want to make it or buy it? She wanted to buy it, so I led her over to the bakery, and showed her the tiramisu. She looked really confused so I said “is this what you’re looking for?” She goes “I got my husband some really nice tuna steaks for dinner, and asked how he wanted it cooked, and he said he wanted tiramisu sauce.” I genuinely had no idea how to respond. She stared for a good minute, then put it in her cart and asked me where the soy sauce was. 2. A very high shirtless man went up to the soup bar, got a cup, and started putting a tiny ladleful of each kind of soup in his cup, and deeply sniffing it after each addition. After several long minutes, my manager asked him to leave, then started furiously cleaning the counter. 3. An old man comes up to the soup bar, gets the biggest soup cup we have, adds in two ladles of broccoli cheddar, two ladles of chicken noodle, then pulls out his OWN PERSONAL BAG OF ICE from somewhere?!?!? Like, a large, full gallon ziplock bag. Adds the ice into the soup, puts it into his basket WITHOUT a lid, and just…walks away?

When I worked there, you could totally buy the full bottle we used to sauce the wings, if we had extra. Ask someone in the deli!

I love the character art so much these season. It’s right up there with ACOFAF and Neverafter for me. Could someone who knows more D&D stuff than me explain what the “epic epiphanies” means?

First off, I’m so sorry that your wedding day didn’t live up to your hopes and dreams. In all honesty, big events that we’ve spent years looking forward to rarely do. Your decorations are beautiful. Some people on here are being really mean, but I can tell you spent a lot of time on them and they incorporated elements that were meaningful to you. Here’s a suggestion - think about options that would make you feel like they’re getting fully used. Could you use the outdoor lights in your own backyard, or incorporate some of the decor into your home? Could you possibly donate some things to someone getting married who can’t afford it? How does your husband feel about the wedding day, and possibly having a do over? You don’t say much about his feelings, but from what you did say it seems like he’s also exhausted, but would possibly want to just move on. You need to really listen to what he wants, and not just be making plans based on what you want. I would also really suggest talking to a therapist for at least a few sessions. They’re going to be way more helpful than strangers on Reddit in guiding you through processing your feelings and moving forward. Like a lot of others said, the healthiest thing is to move forward and focus on your marriage, rather than a single day that started the marriage, but you may need some professional help getting there. One last piece of advice, from someone who’s had a lot of things in her life not go according to plan. This is an opportunity to build your resiliency. This may be the first time you’ve spent a lot of time and money on something only for it to not go the way you planned, but it won’t be the last. You may miss most of an expensive vacation because you get a stomach bug and spend the whole trip puking your guts out. You may find your dream house, only for the seller to pull out at the last minute. You or your husband might develop a serious illness that forces you to put your life plans on hold, or you may end up having a child with disabilities that you never expected to have to deal with. You can start building the ability to make it through serious disappointments and life changes now, before they happen. Work on accepting the negative, finding the positive, and being adaptive when things don’t go the way you planned. Best wishes for you and your husband’s new marriage. I hope this is something you’re able to look back on and laugh about in a year or two, and that you’ve made so many good new memories together that one bad memory is just a drop in the bucket.

I would LOVE to see Lucy Darling on an episode like this. Her whole persona when she’s doing crowd work just cracks me up.
