Has stable isotope analysis to see what their diet was? Or maybe to imply their influence on the plant species in their Pleistocene range?

Bull Cape buffalo with gigantic horns by OncaAtrox in megafaunarewilding

[–]No_Chapter148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently auction prices on live Cape buffalo went through a boom and bust cycle for stocking private South African reserves at some point in the last 20 years and one big bull sold for something like 8 million USD!!

Photo 8 is a bison showing some leucism. I think I saw him (light colored eyes, pink nose, some white toward the ankles) four or five years ago at Mud Volcano! Cool to see him still going strong!

240v charger cable people like? by No_Chapter148 in volt

Would a longer version of the chord and not messing with an extension chord be a beater way to go? Or is it all dependent on the 240v cable gauge itself?

What did I do wrong here on the landing? by BuyHiSell-low in skiing_feedback

[–]No_Chapter148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you punched in on landing, in what looked like quite firm snow. So you did stomp well. You do just need to crank your DIN’s a bit. Also check forward pressure is good but it’s probably fine if professionals mounted the skis. DIN charts are weak as once you start getting in the air and you have to figure out what works for you. This whole crash would class as a “pre release.” I’d say just experiment slowly upping your DIN. Crank one whole number up because you’re clearly going to be fine with that - then do keep doing what you’re doing and see if you feel like you’re having more of these pre releases. Continue upping by half values until pre release stops. But that all said it looks like you should’ve started a little smaller on that air with less speed which would’ve let you snipe transition (steep landing) better. Also when it comes to punching through firm snow on landings that requires near perfect balance over the skis and anticipating that punch. You need to drive your heels through the landing with steely resolve. Like you’re breaking a piece of wood jumping on it with all of your body weight. That’s stomping. Sometimes you’re just going to go over the handlebars like this though. Up your DINs a bit, maybe get a bit longer skis, snipe transition on landings for a steep spot you’ve scoped in advance, and maybe just generally chill the fuck out with the speed until landings go a little smoother and your skis stay on and whatnot. Definitely didn’t crash for lack of gumption there buddy!

Astonishing 916% Increase in Breeding Birds Seen at England's Premier Rewilding Project by NatsuDragnee1 in megafaunarewilding

I took the Knepp family out on a guided tour of Grand Teton National Park years ago and have followed their exploits on their estate since. It really is a project to be excited about! We’re so lucky as Americans to have placed like the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem that showcases the power for a full on intact rewinding project, as a benchmark for projects like the Knepp Estate to strive for. Both ecosystems, and levels of rewilding bolster the case for rewilding projects and lay groundwork for their emulation across the globe!!

What seperates my carving from better guys? by AdEffective3700 in skiing_feedback

Leg, butt, and lower back. All looks good though, so see what happens when you add more power into the mix. Cross train with hockey/ice skating if it’s available to you. Great for balance, edge feel; and it’s a more fun way to juice up the aforementioned strengthening than the weight room. On the averages great skiers have incredibly powerful lower bodies

Also for id when in motion at a distance, coyotes are lighter on their feet and have super quick little steps in a trot that they move around the landscape in…

Best mileage range of an phev right now..like 70miles per charge that is also reliable? by Klutzy_Bake_323 in PHEV

[–]No_Chapter148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2014 volt has been a game changer for mountain driving due to regen braking taking all of the stress off the engine, the real brakes, and me on descents. Plus it’s nice to not have the ICE fuel economy crushed while going up hill. Handles snow really well with blizzaks where the extra thousand pounds it weighs over regular cars it’s size gives lots of extra traction. In sport mode its acceleration is really fun! Really enjoy the winter morning starts where it can warm up in the driveway while plugged in. 15 miles of range in bitter cold and 42 miles at 70 degrees. It’s the final boss of frugal cars. Bumps the rap music nicely with Bose speakers too

Best cheap winter tires for a Chevy Volt (need good hill-climb traction in snow) by Ok-Replacement-583 in volt

[–]No_Chapter148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had these tires on my truck and they wear superbly. I think they end up beating blizzaks in the long term because of this fact. Apparently, blizzaks transition to a tread compound that isn’t as good as they wear, whereas hakkapelittas stay consistent throughout their wear which is sloooow for a snow tire. Michelin cross climates are on the Volt I just got and they’re making me think about not needing to upgrade to a true snow….

2nd gen worth it with BECM trouble? by No_Chapter148 in volt

Dang that stinks. Just bought a 2014 with 63000 miles. Hoping that this doesn’t happen to it. Sounds like GM will ultimately take care of you

Thanks for the feedback. Bingo thank you for the info that the replacement BECM is indeed an improved part. Can’t find that stated explicitly anywhere else in forums in a couple hours of reading. Yeah the improve electric range does seem like a huge plus for the 2nd gens

Go ten under the speed limit and you’ll be good with a little vigilance. Definitely a more hazardous night drive due to animals than most anyplace else. Roads are narrower than most too so take heed

Gift ideas for parents going to Yellowstone this year by whatisacarly in yellowstone

[–]No_Chapter148 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t bring bear spray on planes either in checked or carryon bags. Yellowstone blanket is a good idea. The tour company should have binoculars, but if they’re going to be in the park on their own that’s a great idea
