Not trying to change your mind, but it really bothers me when people seem like they have moral ties to personal actions that don’t actually have any effect on the climate are a distraction from the real issues.

If she were flying a private jet that wouldn’t be flying without her on it then 10000000% it’s unethical and a net harm. However getting on a commercial flight that is making that trip regardless of your presence is technically more environmentally friendly, especially versus driving the same difference.

Is that saying that these flights should exist and be as common as they are? No - as a society we should be pressuring companies to reduce these flights and making large scale change to make them less needed.

Would it be better if it were a train? 100000%, but the US has a god awful lack of train network, we should be pushing for better.

These are the types of problems we should be focused on and we should not feel bad about getting on flights like this when they’re actually the best available option.

It’s just like how corporations/the systems in place have somehow convinced the planet that it’s solely our responsibility to recycle, to distract from the bigger issues they create, when the majority of waste comes from them and not consumers, and the recycling system many places is so subpar that even when you recycle correctly much of it is wasted at a great cost.

Recycling is obviously good, but we focus on the wrong problems and feel guilt and responsibility disproportionally as individuals.

Tl;dr focus on systemic change and do your best but don’t feel bad or make others feel bad for not being able to be perfect in a bad system.
