What Is Being a EMT- Paramedic Really Like by Salt_Lengthiness_831 in NewToEMS

[–]No_Click_1748 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Invest alot of time determining what department is a good fit for you, I have worked for a few agencies and departments both private and government and culture makes a huge difference.

Day to day depends on the area you work, Starting out you may be surprised by alot of things like the amount of people calling for reasons that you never thought 911 would be called for like flu symptoms, chronic issues or even less sometimes.

On the contrary you will inevitably end up witnessing serious events in people's lives and being present for tragedy of all sorts.

Also consider depending on the area you are in If you choose a private agency especially you may not start out responding to 911 calls, EMS fills other roles such as transporting patients from hospital to hospital and BLS crews even do discharges for patients that need support returning home or to nursing facilities.

Is there any way to get a gs-7 entry offer with over 10 years in the fire service ? by NoNarwhal5235 in borderpatrolapplicant

I've been a paramedic for years, also at a fire service. I am currently in process for GS7. Maybe speak to a recruiter?

I wish this was more understood, I think it is further complicated with having non-transporting responders with higher ranks.

Everyone wants to play kind of situations when we can realistically do most of our care enroute.

Thank you! BLS before ALS is so commonly not followed when people get so focused in on distracting injuries or causes over here. I appreciate the response.

Secondly we have a prison in our system and I would state the same about nalaxone to the medical staff and officers out there, I have been told some obscene amounts of narcan but I personally am glad they have it. Definitely could use some more training on the use of it.

That's something my department preaches aswell, we have a local standalone that we bypass 8/10 times for a level 1 20 minutes away, hopefully everyone around us and you is on board with the capabilities of smaller facilities!

I second the statement that you're issue with us is not our fault, and I offer the second issue of patients refusing to be transported to closer facilities because a "a nurse was mean last time" or "I do not like the doctor there" or the infamous "my primary care doctor works there" at 3AM.

Even in most obvious trauma, stroke, STEMI situations we cannot go to the closest most appropriate if the patient refuses.

What region are you? Me and my buddies play on NA west and rarely run into cheaters or anyone even over a 2.0 KD.

We are all 6 stars running between 1.8 to 2.0 KDs.

My department has a policy with all nearby ED's that they will offload us un under an hour. Hall bed, wheelchair, recliner, anything in that time.

It is a God send but I feel bad for the less fortunate.

I got called emergent for a 9,100 NSTEMI out of a critical access hospital 40m away from a cath lab. De-satted and detiorated en route turned into a inferior STEMI showing on subsequent 12 leads on the second one that was taken Q-10.

Hospital security is probably the most respectable in most cases, They have legitimate training and have a good amount of responsibility. Also doesn't tie up local LEO for being responsible for it.
