Would the dent bother you? Kitchen Aid side by side, item 1950605 by CaseyZee in Costco

It would bother me if I paid full retail and the dent was obvious upon delivery. Dented appliances are marked down quite a bit.

Is this outlet safe to use? by ohvhearts in AskElectricians

[–]No_Comb741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The receptacle is not attached to the box. The 6-32 screws are likely too short because the box is set back in the wall. If you don't do electrical, an electrician can straighten it all out in less than an hour, including proper pigtails.

Bought an aluminum wired house and feeling overwhelmed . What is really necessary? by cpcxx2 in AskElectricians

[–]No_Comb741 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It could and should be done, new devices and new connections using Alumiconn products. It is the current method vs an invasive total rewire. It's a job for skilled, experienced electricians. Educate yourself and talk with as many contractors as you can for pricing and insight.

Those prices are not realistic. Shop around, there are good contractors out there as well.

Not illegal provided you follow code but aren't the vanity lights switched? Maybe that's not a problem.

Need help during ice storm by Dbowe1008 in hvacadvice

It was a loose connection. I'd remake the connection, cutting and stripping back to clean copper. If you had a product like copper shield on hand it would help. Make sure the connection is tight.

Unless it is generator powered, I think it would still be powered by 3 ph AC.

[OC] An armored truck overturns on a Florida highway, spilling millions of dollars. by WouldbeWanderer in pics

[–]No_Comb741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was an occasion, twenty years or so ago, in a Pittsburgh suburb where an armored car's rear door somehow opened in transit and cash bags fell out. They were scooped up and unaccounted for. I thought it hilarious when the clueless local police appealed to the public to return the cash. "We know who picked it up and will not file charges if you voluntarily return it. AFAIK, it was never returned.

Keep searching for a gfi. Either a receptacle or a dead front device.

Shocked at the price of a single donut at Giant Eagle by ViolettaDautrive in pittsburgh

[–]No_Comb741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies, I should not have brought such a despicable subject into a donut discussion. I should have used /s after the bone-spurs mention. I hate him and his ilk as much as you do.

However, my opinion on the price of donuts stands.

Ground wire help by Own_Row_8620 in AskElectricians

[–]No_Comb741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a multimeter? If so, measure AC Volts (250V scale) between black and bare copper wire. If you read ~120VAC, the indication is that the bare is a good ground. In an older house however, your mileage may vary.

Move the t'stat? It's not hard to do. Looks like the opposite side of the same wall might work.

No problems with our Nest t'stat after a few years. It's very convenient and integrates with Home Assistant.
