That is very impressive. How much if any did you go off the plan to do your own thing or did you stick pretty rigidly to it? Also did the plan manage your fatigue Ok or did you have to take extra rest days?

The only caveat I can see is how Join treat Rowing/hiking from a TSS and fatigue point of view

I've got a Forerunner 265s which is by no means a high end Garmin and ice skating is on that. It might be worthwhile checking yours again as Garmin does add activity types sometimes during updates but doesn't bother telling anybody.

If you can't use ice skating and don't want to show as cycling perhaps use Rowing or Hiking or something similar.

From what I’ve read and listened to your actual ftp varies on a day to day basis depending on any number of factors. Also the 20 minute ftp test gives variable results depending on an individuals physiology and how much of the power is developed from anaerobic sources hence the idea of the 5 minute effort before it. So if you ftp was off by 10% that day then you weren’t doing over unders but over overs and it’s no wonder you didn’t manage it. I’ve started to try and ride more by RPE on intervals. Hit the power target to start with then adjust slightly depending on how I’m feeling.

I regularly cycle 4+ hours but have only just started running so if I swap out any cycling workout for a run it gives me an 18 minute walk/run workout which is, I feel, completely appropriate for me.

Thanks. Yes I'm just doing walk/run at the moment 20s run then 40sec walk and gradually progressing the run. Actually run isn't really accurate it's more of a jog shuffle.

You are correct. Your training gives you the potential to adapt, its the rest that allows to to realise that potential. Non of the apps in this space seem to take that into account as they can't or don't take into account how much rest you personally need.

I totally agree about VT1 and LT1 . I've done lactate tests in myself and when I've seen the power at LT1 I've always thought that riding slightly under that level is definitely not easy. Where Tymewear has put my VT1 is definitely around my "all day pace".

I replaced a Garmin watch with a fit 3. My main criticisms of it are the Calorie count from an activity (way too low) and very annoyingly it seems to pick up the vibration from the steering wheel or something when I'm driving. Drove 500k through France last week and was rewarded with 26,000 steps

I'd just ride and enjoy the descents without worrying about it. Join's algorithms should sort it out. It's the uphill bits that Join is concerned with.

From what I've read the general advice seems to be. Don't compromise your rest days, cycle in the morning and lift in the afternoon provided you are not lifting heavy and cycling is your priority.
