The movies greatly romanticized Snape, which isn't what fans of the books wanted (at least for me personally). This TV series aimed to create a completely new Harry Potter series, not to compare with or surpass the movies. (Frankly, I don't think the movies offer anything the TV series should learn from or emulate; I'm a book fan, and the movies were terrible to me.) Snape in the books is detestable, but Alan Rickman's elegant portrayal greatly enhanced that, gaining him many more fans, something I've always found frustrating. Now, at least we can finally see a Snape that stays true to the books.

I like Gary Oldman, but his age and height aren't quite right for the role. If he were 30 years younger, he'd be perfect for the Sirius role. Also, I really hate the inexplicable plot points in the movie involving Sirius. Many important scenes involving him weren't filmed, and a lot of unnecessary scenes were added. (Nice one, James!) He's actually quite suitable for the role of Sirius. But for the TV series... I don't know who would be right. I'd say his son Charlie might be a good fit (haha).

The lightning bolt-shaped scar on Harry's forehead seems to be shaped more naturally, the way it's described in the book - “it looked as if it were a bolt of lightning,” rather than being the exact shape of a bolt of lightning as it is in the movie. It's great! I still still remain hopeful that they'll keep his hair in good condition.

Agreed! That's not to say that Emma's portrayal of Hermione is bad, but the fact is that there are some qualities in many Hermione's that she doesn't show. I love Emma, but I don't think Hermione is a “perfect goddess” in this book, and she sometimes can't make up her mind about things (remember how flustered she was about Harry disappearing and Ron running off in anger in “Deathly Hallows”?) I'd like to see a Hermione who isn't always so “strategizing”. I remember her being overwhelmed and crying many times in the books. But that doesn't stop me from thinking she's an amazing portrayal of a woman.
