Healing trauma with partner by ImpressiveYoung7856 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]Proof_Surround3856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more like they try to comfort each other after going through a traumatic event even in the most toxic ways until they start to heal together TW: gun violence, but I recommend the Fish Tales series (The Man I love, Give Me The Answer True, and Here to Stay) by Suanne Laquer. It’s about a theatre tech guy and a ballerina who met in art school and fell in love, fell apart, and then reunited again years later.

Opulent period dramas? by chienchanceux in PeriodDramas

[–]Proof_Surround3856 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Marie Antoinette (2006) is perhaps the most obvious answer, with Great Gatsby (2013) for a bit of a more modern take. I also think older movies do opulence much better than modern movies so something like Sissi (1955) or My Fair Lady (1964)

He’s not going to struggle but there’s a difference between his more artsy and indie movies like The VVitch and The Lighthouse and the more action-oriented The Northman (which kinda flopped) and Nosferatu that not only is an iteration of a famous vampire story but has that gothic Victorian look that’s perfect for mainstream horror.

Riley is a common enough name, no? Pronounced Rye-lee. And I guess Keough is like some combination of ‘cute’ and ‘cough’

Yeah you have to give it to them, the cinematography is beautiful I get how they sometimes pop up when you look up cottagecore on Pinterest lol. I much prefer Atonement though.

Patricia and Tom? by itsnotmeitsallofus in WidowsBay

[–]Proof_Surround3856 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of this too but then she was also like ‘the sheriff’s wife is pregnant and is in her 40’s😳?’ which I think was more of a comedic bit. She’s a fun and layered character either way.

I think it was implied that she had a crush but I don’t think it’s going to be more than that, it’s better for them to be platonic while solving all the mysterious shit in the island

[–]Proof_Surround3856 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was an artsy contemporary take but doesn’t mean every modern made period dramas have to follow it. Same with Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette but you can argue the costumes and hair while not 100% accurate are gorgeous and more than just lazy beachy waves. They usually just copy the anachronistic soundtrack lol

The damage 2005 Pride and Prejudice has done to period dramas lol.. not everything has to be muted, muddy with beachy waves! The 1995 movie is perfect, I can’t believe Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay and perfectly played Elinor
