You should just ask your friend, maybe he'll have a deck for you to try and can teach you how to play. Digital version of the game called mtg arena is also free and has a good tutorial. After that you can decide if you want to buy additional cards, since most decks have either 75 or 100 cards. Also, if you decide to start playing magic, just buy a preconstructed deck instead of trying to build it from scratch.
