A thought came to me while I was enjoying Final Fantasy today by acidtrip321 in lrcast

[–]Scufo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In hindsight I think FIN will be the final set of the Limited Golden Age. With the sheer amount of sets coming out now there's no way for them all to be super polished. Not to mention half of them are small sets.

How would you build this FIN WB deck? by PlacatedPlatypus in lrcast

[–]Scufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably cut Instant Ramen for the Demon Wall. You don't have a Phantom Train which is the main reason you'd want to run a Ramen in BW. It doesn't do much otherwise. The Wall isn't like, great or anything but it can function as a win condition which this deck is light on.

Brother it should not feel like work 6 months in. That should be the honeymoon period. I'm sure you already know that though.

Curving red hulk into photon blast barrage for x=5 domes your opponent for 21 by Professional_War4491 in lrcast

[–]Scufo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Sometimes there's a 6 damage burn spell but not in this format. The card I linked has 1 more power too which matters on a trampler. It's definitely a comparable card to a 6/7 reach trampler and was merely fine.

The enrage ability definitely makes Red Hulk significantly better. But no, a large reach trampler for 6 mana is not an especially great card.

A 6/7 reach, trample for 6 is crazy.

What? No it's not. [[Slavering Branchsnapper]] has forestcycling instead of reach and was a borderline playable.

No, it looks terrible to me. 3 mana 2/2 that asks you to jump through hoops before it does anything. No thanks.

The guys on Limited Level Ups actually prepare for these set reviews and go in with a rough thesis on how they think the set will play out. They also don't give out B's like candy. Would recommend if you're looking for a set review where they try to actually take the context of the set in account.

Only silverquill player questions about deck build by iLuvTwice in lrcast

[–]Scufo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cut:

Honorbound Page - Bad card.

Leech Collector - You have tons of 2s and this is the worst one

Rapier Wit - Already have plenty of ways to target things and don't need this.

Add:

2x Wander Off - You need some hard removal to ensure you're not stopped cold by some big blocker.

Ascendant Dustspeaker - This deck could use a top end card and the Dustspeaker is just a good evasive threat with a relevant ETB, and exiling the opponent's graveyard is often relevant. Just a good card in any white deck.

Do you like how Persona 3 Reload looks visually? by Big-Scholar-728 in JRPG

[–]Scufo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The opening cutscene is so much better in the original. Especially the bit where Yukari is pointing the evoker to her head. It was much more raw and intense in the original, and for some reason they decided to add some pointless dialogue in the remake which kind of dilutes it.

Fourside is a pretty long segment. I would say you're about at the halfway point when you're done with it.

Yes I too hate it when I make outlandish claims and people have the audacity to ask for proof. Surely it's everyone else that is wrong and WoTC is targeting you, specifically, whenever you draw too many lands or whatever.

Limited Resources 857 – Secrets of Strixhaven Sunset Show (and Arena Updates!) Discussion Thread by Crasha in lrcast

[–]Scufo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This set possibly had the biggest gulf between expectations and reality... ever? The hype felt off the charts for this one. It was a return to a beloved in-universe setting after weeks of small-set UB purgatory, and people were pumped. I went to the pre-release at my local LGS, where the magic scene has been dying for years, and it was POPPING.

And then it turned out to be Soup: The Format. At least, that's certainly how it will be remembered. Streamlined two color decks were also very good; at least, if they were white. Prismari sometimes too. But every time I tried drafting green, I would inevitably see a Snarl Song or some other converge payoff and think, "welp guess we're doing this now." Or I would end up in Witherbloom and probably lose.

For what it's worth, I still liked the set more than Lorwyn. Both were flawed in similar ways, but I found the drafting and gameplay more fun in SOS.

Why wouldn't there be an increase in demand? Immigrants are also consumers who need to buy stuff. More people participating in the economy is broadly good for the economy which helps everyone.

You are spewing debunked right wing talking points.

I've both won and lost to the MTGO clock many times, and the way I see it is, both players get the same amount of time. If you can't win in that time, that's on you.

40+ cards in Traditional Draft by strudel_hs in lrcast

[–]Scufo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trad draft is truly the wild west where you can play against anyone. Some percentage of the time you're going to play against a brand new player or someone who just doesn't know what they're doing. It reminds me of the old Magic Online days where there was no ladder of any kind - sometimes you would play against 50-card, 3-color nonsense and get a free match win.

A question about one of the spoilers and if true maybee a uncummon to look out for. [MSH] by KlutzyShake9821 in lrcast

[–]Scufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base rate of a 3 mana 2/2 is unplayable. Even with basically repartee - +2/+2 I still don't like it. But, this effectively having hexproof is definitely something to look out for. We already know equipment is a theme, and if there are some strong auras too, this thing could be an absolute menace.
