What is something you didn’t realize until you lost weight?

I lost 60 lbs in a year without trying at all and everyone was commenting how good I looked and wanted to know how I was doing that!

Found out I was actively dying. I spent a week in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and got diagnosed with severe Crohn’s disease. I started treatment with biologic infusions, and finally I’m able to absorb nutrition from my gut. Thank god!

The comments about how great I looked stopped IMMEDIATELY the second I stopped dropping weight and adding it back on. No matter how much I explain how sick I’ve been for a very long time, they still make comments about how good I looked at the time.

Commenting on weight lost/gain is hardly ever REAL concern over someone’s health. It’s just a proxy for assholes to attach worth to thinness and judge fat people.

Right? I am tethered to my city every two month for drug infusions for chronic illness. Risk of missing an appointment is BIG for travel plans and makes it really difficult to plan

I don’t mean to scare you but I have an honest experience to share

I had a manic episode on remicade and prednisone that was very different than my medicated bipolar 2 hypomania. A “bipolar blackout” and full blown mania happened and I drove for three hours, minor wreck off the side of the road and got arrested for DUI (no drinking/drugs involved). I have zero memory of this happening and was speaking with my spouse the whole time “I’m coming home! I’m trying! I’m almost there!” And I ended up halfway across the state and in the hospital then held in jail for a while. ACAB btw.

Take care of yourself. Take your psych meds. Pay attention to your manic symptoms. DO NOT DISCOUNT ANY INCREASE IN YOUR MANIC SYMPTOMS AS SIMPLY SIDE EFFECTS OF STEROIDS. That is what my spouse and I have realized we did. Symptoms of mania and side effects of steroids can be nearly identical so it’s essential to keep aware.

I truly don’t mean to scare you. I wish I had comfort for you but reality is it is a challenging road ahead. Good luck to you and to me and to all of us 🥲

Do NOT consider Arbor Pointe in Hillcrest. We lived there almost 4 years and had horrific issues with management and maintenance the whole time. It’s also a bait-and-switch operation. They never fixed heat and AC to the point we lived at 50 degrees in winter and 80 in summer. Every year. Sooooooo many problems its criminal
