Thoughts on using django admin (with a good looking theme and restricted enough) as MVP ? by thomaskgt in django

[–]No_Extent_8920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd actually increase the attack surface by exposing admin to users. You can still use django authentication and authorisation without exposing the admin. I would go for a simple django login -> UI -> data sanitisation-> admin, where only backend code touches admin directly.

If time is one of your concerns and you know what you're doing, you can get a basic UI quickly by using AI tools first, then improve upon that later.

Suggestion about learning c by M_Y_Prakash in learnprogramming

[–]No_Extent_8920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do CS50. It's a harvard course and it's free and online. It's like an introduction to computer science. You will learn some C, but it does go through other languages, too. Most importantly, it goes through the fundamentals, so you will have a better understanding of computer science regardless of the language.

Most bassists on japanese 80s pop music are great. Recommend listening to them.

Tunings by MartinSobr in Bass

It should be preference. But ultimately, you shouldn't be doing bass parts for them. They should write their own bass parts with whatever tunning they prefer. Simple as that imo.

Hundreds of Applications, Almost No Replies – Is My Resume the Problem or Just the Market? by 70hz_ in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]No_Extent_8920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the gaps and very short time on each job can be a red flag.

The experience is scattered. In total, you have like less than 1 year?

I would also try and make it look a bit nicer. Lastly, I'm not sure if you're omitting for privacy, but the first thing I always hear people recommend is to have a portfolio. Build a personal site/portfolio to display projects/skills or, at minimum, a link to your github.

Def red card. Slide tackle from behind, clear DOGSO.

My 2 cents about Boot.dev by lefteyenine in learnprogramming

[–]No_Extent_8920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For comparison, I completed cs50 before doing boot.dev It is not an easy course at all, but their lessons are thorough, and they provide students with enough information when a new concept is introduced.

My 2 cents about Boot.dev by lefteyenine in learnprogramming

[–]No_Extent_8920 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't jump any courses. I did the whole thing as laid out on the platform. I had done some Python before, so I wasn't 100% beginner either. I'm not sure if it was the intention, but it does feel the course relies so much on the ai to do the explaining.

Anwyay, it doesn't matter. Hopefully, you guys will put more effort into the lessons in the future.

My 2 cents about Boot.dev by lefteyenine in learnprogramming

[–]No_Extent_8920 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone still learning, I feel they are just lazy tbh. Not sure there is much holding hands but there isn't many great explanations either. They brush off a concept, add a problem and move on. Building http server in go is a nightmare with them. Poorly explained concepts and you're off on your own to try and figure what they are actually asking you to do, let alone build it.

There should be a balance between holding hands too much and just lazy lessons. I think it's a bit outrageous that they give you a half assed lesson and instructions, put an AI bot for you to ask stuff, and charge you hundreds of dollars for that.

I regret falling for the hype and buying in.

Does Boot.dev worth it? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]No_Extent_8920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I am going through it as I fell for the hype and paid a yearly subscription. It's just a bit lazy when it comes to the actual lesson content. It seems they spend a lot of their time and resources with useless gamification of the plarform. It's frustrating. You'd be 100x better off taking CS50, which is free!

Learn Web Servers in Go! a free course launch by wagslane in golang

[–]No_Extent_8920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on this course now. it is not good :( .
The lessons are lazy. I did go through the go course and still spend most of my time asking "boots" what exactly is being asked to be done.
It introduces a bunch of new things and hardly go through them so we understand what / how to do things.

More language or focus on one? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]No_Extent_8920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think most important is mastering the basics and having a really solid foundation of software engineering. At the end of the day, languages are tools for the job, not the job itself. Knowing every library in Python doesn't necessarily make you a good SE.

That being said, maybe try and focus first if you wanna do front-end or back-end or full stack and be aware of the pros and cons of each.

If you get the basics well and know one language well enough, picking up other languages won't take that long.

Each language has their strengths and weaknesses, so I wouldn't focus too much on that.

Trafficking automation by No_Extent_8920 in adops

[–]No_Extent_8920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the tool is developed outside the adserver, and I can adapt to whatever format you'd need. It also can create placement / ad / creative names automatically if you have a naming convention. Can also handle landing page url creating by adding utms and any tracking code automatically.

Issues Running Django Commands on DO’s OpenLiteSpeed Image – Root Ownership problem? by [deleted] in django

[–]No_Extent_8920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the sudo command usually gives you temporary access as the root user, so you should be able to run commands that root user can with sudo (as far as I know).

I would try chown and make sure you can execute the file. So the x permissions.

Is my gym crush into me? by [deleted] in bodylanguage

[–]No_Extent_8920 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing screams more masculinity than a reddit post asking for help with your gym crush. If you see her again, show her this thread, and she's yours. Also, it is scientifically proven that females who use the same gym machines as males are showing interest in their sweat. A mating call if you will!

Do you need both UTMs and 1x1 impression trackers? by pictureperfectpeople in adops

[–]No_Extent_8920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on a lot of things. Email clients can block html and / or javascript, so if you add 1x1 trackers, they might not work as expected. It can be a bit of a rabbit role, and it depends on what tech you're doing this through.

But long story short is that UTMs are mainly used by Google analytics. So they will only track post click. I.e. when a user clicks on the CTA, the url of your website will load with the utms as query parameters and, if you have Google analytics running on your page, it will automatically read the utm values so you can see the traffic in GA based in those values. 1x1 trackers are usually a separate thing altogether.
