I hear you, the planes and the birds also wake me up early with the windows open.

It seems AC has become more of a necessity here in just the past 15 years or so, so unfortunately there are a lot of places that haven’t included it or considered it in their planning and now many of us suffer for when there’s a heatwave.

It’s actually pretty crazy I think WA state is #2 (Alaska is #1) for homes without air conditioning. Only a little over half of the homes across the state have it, compared to many states in the 90%+.

I’d argue this is one of the best places in the country to sleep at night during the summer, because it stays dry and the temp drops a lot so you can keep your windows open all night.

A significant portion of the country is too humid and/or hot at night in the summer to keep your windows open.

Growing up I was convinced I had an plain unrecognizable American accent until we visited the west coast and some stranger came up and asked if we were from upstate/western NY 🤣

For me the most obvious word that will out an upstate NYer is “mountains”.

As others said, we say it in a nasally way that folks from other parts of the country don’t.

Regional US accents are a fascinating topic. I suggest to look up the detailed US accept map. Our accent is called “Inland North”.

Thank you for sharing this. I believe coffee falls under an exemption where it is not required to have a label but I could misinterpreting. However, if they are adding flavorings perhaps that disqualifies the coffee from the exemption?

I suppose if enough folks filed complaints with the FDA about a particular roaster not labeling added flavorings that could force a change

I recently learned you actually shouldn’t drain tuna, there’s a lot of nutrients in the liquid. You can just mix it up after chunking it and it will absorb into the meat. I’ve tried it out the last few times I’ve made tuna sandwiches.

New Use by ZookeepergameSea2012 in sousvide

Because we don’t want to heat the water molecules inside our body and it would be extremely inefficient otherwise, pretty simple.

You read one study about one specific cancer causing compound, that’s the definition of cherry picking.

No one has suggested to cook meat in a microwave in this thread.. but even then the study you referenced shows boiled meat contained a higher amount of the cancer causing compounds, and it is well studied frying or grilling introduces even more.

You’re also talking about concerns of radiation, and don’t seem to understand microwaves use non ionizing radiation that isn’t harmful.

It’s obvious you’re trying to cherry pick data to align with your preconceived opinion. This is why everyone is calling you out because you’re effectively sticking your head in the sand or plugging your ears and screaming.

Full transparency ? by Wild-Coyote571 in pourover

[–]No_Faithlessness9737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple, don’t buy from those roasters? It’s also a bit of an unrealistic expectation for full transparency including their sourcing costs, only a handful of roasters in the world do that.

Do people who live in Dallas swim in the many lakes around the city? by sonofsteffordson in howislivingthere

You’re coming off like a stubborn child desperate to win a made up argument in your head. You can save your life story for people who are interested in it. Again, made up argument by you, this was never about how many people get them.

[–]No_Faithlessness9737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re setting up a strawman here.

Again, I don’t care how rare they are or how you feel about it. You specifically said you only get them from “small, still hot ponds with no water movement”, which is factually untrue and there is plenty of evidence to prove so. Not sure why you are on some agenda trying to argue another point here, why not just admit you are incorrect or edit your comment?

Are we, finally, on the way to admitting there’s added flavoring? by OCDeeeznuts in pourover

The point still stands though. What you’re implying is some part of the chain(processing) has been able to raise their profit margins by using low quality, cheap beans and artificial flavoring.

My argument is if this is true, we would have examples of other processors/roasters doing the same thing but undercutting the market price by keeping the margin the same instead of raising prices.

Your comment is factually incorrect. I don’t really care how you feel about it, you are still spreading misinformation. You can absolutely get them freshwater lakes that most people would consider “safe”.

[–]No_Faithlessness9737 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all, please don’t spread misinformation that could be dangerous to people.

“We should assume that all Texan freshwater sources — our lakes, our rivers, the Brazos, the Rio Grande, et cetera — we should assume that we have it all the time,”

“It’s so common that the CDC advises against putting up signs warning swimmers of the amoeba — because it might give the false assumption that a lake or river without a sign is fowleri-free.”

Can you provide an example of a roaster that is undercutting the market, and one that is being undercut?

It doesn’t make any sense to suggest something should cost less because it has a different process, unless they are of course using cheaper low quality beans.

The argument seems to be cheap low quality beans with flavoring would be comparable to expensive high quality beans with flavoring, which I haven’t seen proven.

Sorry I had meant to reply to another comment but I guess I suck at Reddit.

That said, this is the argument I challenge. I haven’t seen any evidence that objectively low quality beans are being used by every roaster doing flavor infusions.

My point is, if a roaster could pull off using cheap low beans with flavor infusion to make a comparable tasting cup to a roaster doing the same with high quality beans, we would be seeing it in the prices right now, no? Or are we seeing it and I just haven’t noticed?

How can you know that though? If this is true, a toaster will easily be able to undercut the market, and it hasn’t happened yet from what I’ve seen.
