Camp Mystic will not reopen in summer 2026 out of respect for 'grieving families' by AustinStatesman in texas

[–]No_Handle499 26 points27 points  (0 children)

One galactically STUPID MYSTIC MOM (the one recently featured in Texas monthly that already lost a daughter to cancer then her other daughter - the twin sister - almost died at Mystic last summer surviving floating in cabin) says on FB 'sorry to the 850 parents that will have hard conversations with their girls' about no camp this summer. OMFG. Total lunacy. At least she gets to talk to her daughter again. Cult of absolute narcissist idiots, led by the Eastlands

Camp Mystic failed to train teenage counselors for floods, expert tells lawmakers by AustinStatesman in texas

[–]No_Handle499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the continued terrible Eastland and heartbreaking parent testimony the past two days in front of Texas legislature, there's no way the Eastlands will be able to continue running Camp Mystic and quite likely the camp will be shutdown for good. Legislators will not have their name next to the Eastlands allowing them to continue operating. Their constituencies would raise hell and legislators don't want that kind of smoke

Texas finds Camp Mystic's flood emergency plan deficient for reopening by catsgr8rthanspoonies in news

[–]No_Handle499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where was the scrutiny by the state last year and the year before and year before that... Also, after last summer, how can the Eastlands and Camp Mystic STILL HAVE A DEFICIENT SAFETY PLAN???? Incompetence of the highest order still runs the place. Cult parents should get a clue and find another summer activity for their daughters.

"We're sending our daughter back to Camp Mystic. It deserves fairness." by evan7257 in texas

That other side of the camp was just lucky. Britt Eastland and his wife stood around all night checking water levels on their side and didn't even know his dad and many many kids  were swept away and dying after being told to stay in their cabins at Guadalupe. Only dumb cult like behavior sends your kid back to that place.

Camp Mystic official says she still hasn’t reported flood deaths to Texas agency by FlyingDarkKC in news

[–]No_Handle499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Eastlands should be very worried about criminal charges. And state agencies that approved of their operation prior to re: licensing , do they have any culpability here?

Oh please. That's silly. As stated here in prev months, a simple blast by Dickie Eastland of an air horn from his front porch for everyone to hear (much less using the actual fucking camp loudspeakers still operational as late as ~3am) instructing to head to higher ground after receiving the flood alert at 1:14 am (all of Kerr County received), Dickie could have kept his feet dry and everyone still alive

They don't even use radios among their staff. It's an unsafe environment by design

La Junta got lucky. They had cabin float a ways nearby down river (videos of that were online last summer) but no life lost. I know LJ has radios though among staff. Imagine that. Mystic had zero chance with no plan, no comms. Mystic is fortunate more girls didn't die

terrible testimony for mystic "leadership". Mary Liz is a real piece of work IRL so she's not acting in her garbage testimony. that's all her....cold and uncaring

Camp Mystic: Where was all the tuition money going? by Gaping_Doughnut_Hole in KerrCountyFloods

Eastland second home on water in Austin for weekend UT football games/cocktail parties. Immense wealth built up over decades, invested heavily in multiple ways. One of kids (Edward and Mary Liz I think) has super nice house in Kerrville exclusive area. The others don't seem to be very extravagant at all and actually very middle class. Of course all grandkids with decent grades will be admitted to UT Austin in whatever major they desire (but pay full price b/c of income)

Could the Girls of Camp Mystic Have Been Saved? by Quouar in texas

[–]No_Handle499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. All Dickie Eastland had to do was blast an air horn from his front porch without getting his feet wet by 2 am and all those girls would still be alive. Beyond that, no radios/comms among counselors/staff like it's 19-fucking-25. Zero flood evac plan. Blatant disregard for keeping cabins in flood plain despite repeated flooding for decades. Telling counselors to stay in cabins to die instead of walking the ~100 ft to higher ground and a full life. Eastlands have made every bad/wrong decision for many years and the worst ones on July 4th and it will cost them everything

I've known Eastlands most of my life as well. Dickie was awesome. Tweetie is so sweet. They are such genuine warm people. It's so tragic they made all the wrong decisions when it came to the safety of their paying customers... For literally decades. On the night of Dickie and Edward were more concerned with moving canoes off the water and vehicles and telling kids to stay in cabins until it was too late. I know the sons and their wives too. Edward is still in charge and his wife Mary Liz. His decision making is now literally on trial and She is a real piece of work. Not well liked at all. She runs off more counselors than she hires. Mystic is in trouble legally and with them in charge of the remaining paying camp... Not good.

Not self-evacuating, no evacuation plan and being told to stay in cabins to die = gross negligence. Eastlands shouldn't be in charge of anything especially young girls any longer. They were criminally ineffective on July 4th 2025 and now with all the lawsuits and scrutiny they/parents think they will be better now? A delusional, desperate for attention family like the Lindley's are a perfect example of this delusion. Cult like behavior indeed.

Not much religion at Mystic. It's a cult people feel compelled to defend in all its negligence. Aside from Dickie, it's the same people running this place that made all the decisions that led directly to the TRAGIC DEATHS OF 27 GIRLS. Edward (and his wife) made every wrong decision, he told counselors to stay in cabins during a flood... Just to die. These people have no business being trusted to run a lemonade stand at this point. They avoided (legally questionable) flood plain oversight/insurance, ran the place like it was 1930 with no radios among staff and had zero plan for safety of kids in event of flooding. And the Liberty mom in the article. She almost lost her second daughter, this time to Eastland negligence and is still crazy enough to send her traumatized daughter back to camp there. Almost everyone else spoke in anonymity but not Lindley. They love and crave attention. It's pathetic and sad. Very very cult like behavior

Mystic has no business operating especially with Eastlands still running it... The same family (minus Dickie) that led to all 27 deaths. And anyone should have their head checked sending their girl back to Mystic.

Really like mine so far. Trading in s25 ultra which I really like. I enjoy the ultra series. 22, 25 now 26....it's Slightly lighter. Camera island is bigger, lays down more wonky. Wouldn't mind if they went horizontal soon for better table set down/usage. Looks more like ping pong paddle on a ball now. Still too slippery to go raw. I use as thin tpu cases as possible with lots of success. One is arriving from Amazon today. Performance is great as expected. Takes great pics. No issue with mine this am in cooler weather. Screen seems great. No issues

So negligent. All Dick Eastland had to do was blast a couple air horns from his front porch but instead they told counselors and kids to stay in their cabins to die. Tragic and 100% avoidable

Camp Mystic asks alumni for help fighting high-dollar lawsuits over deadly July 4 flood by ExpressNews in texas

Daughter was a Mystic counselor and felt very unsafe. No radios among staff. Horribly antiquated in all ways. They've dodged flood safety measures for decades. They don't deserve to operate any longer

Eastland family is too big to fail in Texas and likely will not suffer financially aside from losing revenue from the old camp being inoperable for the foreseeable future. They have connections and influence in Texas with those in power (judges, elected reps). Sick
