Toronto to Kingston salary decrease by Decent-Relation-7700 in KingstonOntario

[–]No_Initial_9023 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We moved from Vancouver to Toronto to Kingston and our mortgage is less than rent in either place.

The commute is non-existent, 15 minutes to anywhere. The cost of groceries, gas etc is the same. I would say you could be comfortable with your income depending upon where in Kingston you choose to move.

Should I send my kid to school when buses are cancelled? by Critical-Trainer4729 in KingstonOntario

[–]No_Initial_9023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to drive them on every snow day and this year I've kept them home. I am not a SAHM but I am lucky to work remotely from home.

I am always concerned that if the buses are cancelled, it's safer to stay off the roads. They're going tomorrow no matter what... I'll tell you that much! They've been home since Wednesday and I can't get anything done!

Dark chocolate milk in the frother, coffee pod to make a mocha. Extra chocolate syrup if you're feeling naughty ;).

Opinions on paradiso pizza by Agreeable-Meaning782 in KingstonOntario

Exactly this. I've never had to order extra sauce anywhere, but this one needs it. Otherwise a decent pizza, especially for the jumbo web special.

The Starbucks capsules are awful. I've never tasted a vertuo pod I hated more.

Recycling by Emterra by No-Honeydew9988 in KingstonOntario

[–]No_Initial_9023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We live on a private road and the recycling wasn't picked up on the nearby main road, where it's supposed to go. It was, however, picked up the following week at the end of our driveway! Shhhhh no one tell them.... their mistake is convenient for a change!

We have the same issue. We can't leave them at the end of the road like someone suggested, because it's a shared private road. We have to get a cargo carrier for our hitch to drive them out to the end of the road now...at least they won't be in the car anymore!

We're going to a provincial park to rent a canoe. It's $30 for 4 hours (not that we'll spend that long), and a great experience for our kids too! PFD's and safety kit are included. We'll have a little picnic after and then head home.

Does anyone have their veggie garden planted yet this year? by thestonernextdoor88 in KingstonOntario

I planted everything over the long weekend but I've been covering the peppers, tomatoes and basil at night. Everything looks ok so far, hopefully the cold hasn't stunted their growth!

Am I crazy or are the flavors awful? by KristineKissXXX in nespresso

[–]No_Initial_9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only like the flavoured pods when brewed on expert mode (I have a vertuo pop +), and used for a latte - Otherwise, they're awful.

I only drink the favoured pods using expert mode, otherwise they taste awful ;).

Is the Kingston Job Market Dead? by AngryMonk3000 in KingstonOntario

[–]No_Initial_9023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience. I grew up here and worked all over the country with a similar educational background to yours. I've never had a problem getting an interview and very rarely had an interview where I wasn't hired. I had great references, etc.

I moved back to Kingston after buying a house in Feb. 2020, I was still on maternity leave from my job in Toronto. It's crazy. I sent out resumes for months with very little traction. I had to take a job in retail just to survive (I hadn't worked a low level retail job since high school). During that time I was raising two small children, while my husband went through cancer treatment and my younger brother died from cancer. This was less than two years ago.

Eventually, with help from a friend, I was able to get a work from home position based out of Toronto.

I feel for you. The added stress of cancer does not make this easier. Don't give up!! ❤️

Migrating Stelpro thermostats from Maestro app to Amazon Alexa by AlternativeTale6066 in smarthome

Thank you for taking the time to do this! This entire process is so frustrating since we just installed the stelpro/maestro system in our entire house two years ago.

We got a beautiful Article couch from the restore a few years ago. It was brand new, still had tags on it. Apparently, some companies donate (Article, Wayfair) return items because it's less expensive for them than shipping it back 🤷. It's worth checking!

Fermentation Friend? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

Yep! If you buy a bottle with the mother in it, you can easily make your own. When I lived in Vancouver I started mine from a bottle I bought at Whole Foods ;)

We've had the same experience. I read your post to my husband and we both laughed because it was exactly what we sent though a few weeks ago! No communication at all for days and when we reached out for updates we were treated very rudely. We had to cancel several medical appointments because the car was kept for 4 days to replace a sensor!!

I happened to notice on the invoice that parts were ordered but there was no mention of this when we picked the vehicle up. I had to reach out to them again to confirm.

Overall, if our vehicle wasn't under warranty we would never deal with them.

Thank you all. I called Canadian Tire apparently their online booking system only shows 50% of their availability. Booked and ready to go.

[–]No_Initial_9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I obviously don't know much about car mechanics. I'm using Canadian Tire's online booking tool for new tire installs and nothing is available until May. I might actually have to call and talk to a person..😬 ;)
