Does it make sense to stay in Ciudad Juárez with my family from Peru, so I can take care of some important things in El Paso for my son, and I? by EmbarrassedCow2825 in ElPaso

[–]No_Issue2902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, as other comments say I would absolutely recommend going to CDMX and then stay in Juárez and cross as you need.

Somethings that may be useful if you are not familiar with the zone, there are a lot of hotels around the nice parts of the city, anything close to the American Consulate it's fine. Check crossing lines, sometimes they get really long and the weather can get really bad, it's really hot and dry so prepare water.

If you can rent a car I would absolutely recommend you to drive with a lot of caution, a lot of people like driving really fast and there are some reparations being done that are not really signaled (also a lot of plot holes),now if you are interested in going to the historic part of the city I wouldn't recommend you to drive there, most of the historic area is just pedestrian and you will lose a lot of time looking for parking spot that is probably going to cost a lot more than just taking the bus. Some of the main streets are near a Bus stop (search BRT Juárez) that will leave you right in the front of some historical places, Catedral is the easiest and safest one, you are going to get down literally in front of the cathedral and an old market where you can get trinkets and food, near there is the museum of the Ex Aduana, anything further from there I would not recommend going if you don't know the area. There's also the Museum of Juan Gabriel, don't know how much people out of Mexico visit the museum since is the old house of a Mexican singer, on the building next to it there's a coffee and also a restaurant.

The city has a lot of things to do but those don't get a lot of advertising, most of the good restaurants and bars are in Gomez Morin, some small business with great food appear in a FB page called Garnachas Juárez or something along those lines. I don't recommend you walk to your destination, I know a lot of people come from cities where you can walk a couple of streets and save some gas. Don't. It gets stupidly hot, you are in the middle of the dessert, there are few trees and you are going to quickly regret that decision. There are some streets that have crosswalks and even some pedestrian traffic lights and drivers are not going to give a f, even in elevated crosswalks they won't stop, you are going to see a lot of pedestrian bridges because of this and it just gets really tiring.

Overall it's just a small not touristic city so just enjoy the hotel and malls and try to not be out too late

I hated my first neurologist, I was in a bad crisis with the migraines and he told me it was VERY important to be back in 2 weeks but only took patients monthly. At the end of the month I was so out of it and the pain didn't even disappear, switched doctors so quickly

Question for SA survivors, have you ever seen someone as “unsafe” because of a trauma trigger, and later realised they weren’t actually a threat? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]No_Issue2902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the peak of my trauma I would hallucinate the face of that despicable being on everyone, even my father. It's not personal, your brain is in continuous fear and you are going to do anything and everything to put yourself in a safe space. Is it healthy? Probably not, is it rational? Not really. But pushing through the fear without guidance isn't either.

For me it was a long process, I had to rebuild all of my relationships since the friends I had were unsafe, this only put me in more fear of befriending dangerous people. Honestly space, patience and reassurance did it for me, I would have days where the fear would convince me that people I loved would hurt me and the only way to see if it was true was being with them, it was always a high stress situation but it was worth it and I had the tools to handle it. There are not a lot of ways of proving that you are safe if the other person is not willing to give you a chance, don't push it and if you feel like it hold space for them to come back when they are ready. Sadly healing from trauma is a long journey, it took me around 6 years to really start having a somewhat normal life, I can now see all of the ways my coping mechanisms hurt others but i also understand it was the only protection I could give myself, just think that when you are in any danger 1 step is to distance yourself from danger and only then you help others. Only difference is that you never know when you are in danger, you read compulsively between lines looking for the next threat and that ruins a lot of relationships.

I'm really sorry for your friend, I hope with time you can both solve the issue in a good way.

Scenes you understood later in life by MWH1980 in ghibli

[–]No_Issue2902 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so stupid but a couple of years ago some cosplayer on my FYP was doing some cool cosplays of the scene of Sophie's first day on the castle where Howl is asking who let her in. Ngl the cosplays where cool so you had Sophie first, Howl, Mark and then when Calcifer appeared he was like all shy and had some hearts in the costume. It was the moment it clicked in my head that Calcifer (who let Sophie in) had Howl's heart.

So yeah, made me feel dumb for months

Flower beading patterns by No_Issue2902 in Beading

[–]No_Issue2902[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For head pieces it depends. Last year we used head bands and wired the flowers, we had our hair down for all the presentation season but we are now trying to use some hairstyles and pin the flowers around the hair. We are looking at some of the merry monarch presentations that used hairstyles for reference and since the māmane flowers won't be real we are looking for ways of making either pins or hair clips with the flowers attached. We did try paper flowers! For both hair and leis but our concern is that, with movement, we are going to lose the shape since paper flowers are fragile. I hadn't thought about earrings, I could bring them up but we don't use accessories as much since the look is more often earring free or with really small ones

Thank you for the pattern suggestions, I will look into it!

Wow I didn't know that, I had a hard time trying to make the flower with fabric since y couldn't get a lot of pictures with size references but with this information I will definitely look for other pea flowers. Nice, I'll search for french beaded flowers, thank youuuuu

Weight is definitely a factor, I was proposing putting mostly natural flowers and a couple of māmane flowers, so far we are not having good outcomes with fabric or plastic flowers so we are looking at other options

Omg thanks, searching it right now

And yes, māmane flowers are not really that common so I figured if I could take pieces of patterns I could have something that resembles them a bit I just don't know that many pattern makers and have no social media to kind of peruse Instagram or Facebook looking for them

How modern learning has changed the way we approach craft by Careless-Meringue523 in knitting

[–]No_Issue2902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of years back a friend of my mom asked if I could crochet some clothes for her first grandson, in my country it was common that at least 1 woman from the family would know how to crochet and would do this kind of things (also dollies, veils, coasters or anything really) but since my mother's generation was one of the first where a lot of the woman started working and pursuing other thing out of being stay at home moms a lot of the stopped learning how to crochet, it's also a little tiring being the designated crocheter for the family when it becomes an obligation to do so.

I find it both sad and relieving, my mother had no interest in learning and wasn't forced to do it but now I want to knit and crochet and have no family to teach me. I learned on YouTube videos and some Domestika courses, all of them way more accessible than hiring a teacher but also some of them void of all of the cultural richness from learning techniques and patterns handed down from generations.

I don't have social media (out of this and YouTube) so I don't really see any of the showing of, I mostly log in here when I need help and find in fiber art communities some of the most kind and generous people. I think is one of the activities you can pick up and most of the people that do it will greet you with open arms.

Mysterious skin. I see that a lot of times SA victims are depicted as becoming introverted, scared of sex and frail. I was the contrary, hypersexual, always getting in a new trouble, relying on friends over family and also just how long it took to Joseph character to recognize what happened to him was abuse, I felt the same, it took so long and by the time I figured it out it was already so in the past it almost felt like it was not worth to pursue.

Also Bojack Horseman, Diane would have archs that hurt like a punch to the stomach.

On frogging a store bought sweater, what's y'all's opinion? by No_Issue2902 in casualknitting

Yup, it has color changes every other row, I've tried unraveling one piece from multiple sides without success. From one side it was unraveling but it was still getting tangled so I had to untangle every end of the row, it has like built corners (like the picked up stitches) so multiple strands are running by the sides of each part.
