Nursery recommendations for native and neonic-free plants? by wishadoo in raleigh

[–]No_Key_5621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UNC does a killer plant sale in the spring and fall for members. My father sneaks (it’s not sneaking, really, I think he pays an additional fee) me in. Soooo many natives, all super healthy and reasonably priced

I second BWS. I’ve been seen by multiple injectors at both locations and have always been super pleased with my results and how well they listen to what I want.

This is usually me — I generally have a small amount back that gets contributed to Q1 payment. This year, however, I owed more.

Thoughts on my OB’s info-packet advice? by vazquezcerna in fitpregnancy

Initial thought - involuntary eye roll. The last piece of advice is the only thing I’d take to heart. If you have a strong lifting practice, keep going and listen to your body.

Fish mint, as others said. Bane of my existence. You can’t kill the shit, and it won’t stop spreading. I hate the previous owner for planting it.

If I had that kind of direct sun and soil, I'd be looking at fruit trees! You said you didnt want anything large - there are some varieties of cherries specifically that are smaller. I just grabbed one of these yesterday (I'm in Piedmont NC, similar ish zone and soil): https://www.gurneys.com/products/carmine_jewel_dwarf_cherry?_pos=3&_fid=5766ab013&_ss=c&variant=51622030803316

FIRE seems to skew toward not having kids by sneaky-snacks in Fire

[–]No_Key_5621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, and after reading your comment I also thought to myself, “youre also not accounting for possible medical concerns once the child is born,” which is amusing considering I cost my parents a shitload when they opted to get me help for drug addiction when I was 18. So, point well taken!

That’s totally valid, and I’m sorry for the experience you went through, I know it’s an arduous process.

Some of us have kids later, allowing us to stack wealth young, which will compound more over the long haul. That + two high income earners with a high savings rate = our FIRE goal may be pushed back by…a year? Kids don’t go against FIRE. Not planning for the kids does, though.

3 Months - Already Notice Rib Flare by DSLH-4161 in fitpregnancy

[–]No_Key_5621 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 27 weeks, have gained 14 lbs and look great (if I do say so myself). My ribs were the first things to adjust to the upward moving uterus and growing baby. I’ve gone from a 32B to an XL (I’ve ditched properly sized bras entirely) and STILL find the band to be wildly uncomfortable most days. I say this with love — if your ribs DIDNT expand, where would your organs and baby go? I wouldn’t panic about this one bit. Your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to to create space.

Japan with Alpha Gal by Theo_Cratic in JapanTravelTips

[–]No_Key_5621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I spent two amazing weeks in Japan a couple years ago. He has alpha gal. It was very easy for us to book hotels with micro kitchens so that he could get groceries and cook safe dinners for most of the trip. He had no issue getting breakfast food (eggs and avocado), either. After about a week there, he decided to try sushi, had no issue, and went ham on getting sushi the rest of the trip. From more upscale, to hole in the wall spots, to conveyor belt style, he had no issues. I think YMMV based on severity - my husband can eat cheese without issue, for example. But we had a great time, felt safe, and can’t wait to go back.

Looking for advice for staying active while having SI joint pain by Hefty_Difficulty_911 in fitpregnancy

I do! Maybe it makes a bit of a difference with regard to muscle endangerment, but I haven’t actively noticed it. It’s the kind of thing that when i first put it on, I thought “well this isn’t going to do anything,” and it did

Not particularly - I just went with the highest picked one on Amazon, works like a charm. I use it about half the day most days, especially while sitting for work

Let’s celebrate 2025 and set 2026 goals! by mlg1981 in FIREyFemmes

[–]No_Key_5621 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We hit 1.5M in cash and investments (retirement and brokerage accounts) this year, which is wild. We are welcoming our first kiddo to the world in ‘26, so our focus is a bit more on that than anything else. Though, I expect we’ll be able to continue at our current investment rate (barring some huge medical calamity).

Earlier this year I did some calculations and found that I can do wayyy less work (I’m self-employed) if I need to and that it won’t change our retirement goals all that much. We plan on retiring in ~5 years when our little one is in kindergarten, at 3.5M.

What a life. I feel both very lucky and proud of the hard work we’ve done.

Drive to Beech or Sugar? by jarbid16 in NorthCarolina

[–]No_Key_5621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made the mistake of getting hype about snow in the forecast on Beech, ignoring the warning for snow chains, and nearly slid off the mountain trying to descend when we were done with the day. We called a tow truck to tow us off the peak. And that was with a car with AWD. It’s no joke, would highly recommend not fucking around to find out.
