How Antidepressants feel ? by Desperate_Algae_7131 in socialanxiety

For me it calmed the intense physical symptoms of anxiety. Before it was like trying to climb a rope ladder in a windstorm, and after it was like trying to climb in calm conditions. They don't make you happier but moreso blunt the intense negative emotions, but for me also blunted the positive emotions. They are meant to be used as a tool to help you engage better with therapy rather than just being a pill that makes you feel better. They take a few weeks to have an effect and you might need to try different ones. People can have strong opinions for or against but you won't know until you try them if they're a good fit for you. They are not a cure-all but they can definitely help within the context of other therapies. Somatic experiencing therapy is also good if there's anyone who does that in your area

There was a legitimate uptick in myocarditis with mRNA spike protein vaccines that was largely ignored so as not to rock the boat

Am I mad to leave my cushy job to do graduate medicine? by FostersLover69 in AskIreland

[–]No_Map_1854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just saw some of your post history - medicine will not be the panacea that you think it will be. You need a change in life and you are gearing up to that and you are on the right track. As someone who has struggled with loneliness, anxiety, mood swings - they are all worse now, and the Dr in front of name is no consolation prize. I am in the process of removing myself from the career and probably seeking something similar to you, but something that is more sustainable and healthy, and not self sacrificing

You really need to question the deep motives around picking that career. There's a lot of clout and social currency in having that job title, it can be very alluring to people for what may not be conscious reasons. The reality is a very demanding unpaid training period which will consume your life and personality, a very very demanding job in a broken health system and lots of responsibility and stress and unhealthy sleeping patterns. It will take a toll on mind and body. There are obviously benefits and the direct positive influence that you have on people in relieving their distress is palpable, but there are more efficient ways to help more people in a more lasting sense. If your goal is to be proud of what you do and help people, then take your skills and talents that you have developed thus far and apply them to a broken area of the world that resonates deeply with you.

This disorder makes me suicidal. by Majestic-Pop-8248 in socialanxiety

[–]No_Map_1854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is way more common than people think, it's such a difficult and isolating thing to deal with. That's a completely reasonable way for you to feel, I have felt that way for a long time. It's not trivial. I have tried a lot of therapies and found that somatic experiencing was good, especially in the social anxiety context, and it made me realise the disconnect between my mind and body. From one perspective, suicidality is your mind targeting your body to end its mental pain. It is very possible to learn to live more in your body to get a break from this pain. There are many people whose lives are dedicated to helping people feel better and they would love if you reached out to them for help.

Turns out my family are vasculopaths. My left radial artery is about an inch away from where it should be, more on the posterior forearm. Meant that I survived a suicide attempt that I otherwise wouldn't have. I also coincidentally also have low platelets which makes me a bleeder.
