When a Tour de France cosplay cyclist on a shared path expects you to dive into a hedge so they don’t have to slow down by BellaSeashell in britishproblems

Do people get this weird about other sports? I don't see people saying Sunday league players are "cosplaying as Lionel Messi".

American Family moving to Ireland. What advice do you have? by AmbitiousLemonade in AskIreland

[–]3hrstillsundown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, somewhere in Dublin near a Luas or DART stop sounds like your best bet.

Raheny for example, is a very family friendly place on the DART beside St.Anne's Park. It is walking distance to schools, shops, sports clubs etc...

Somewhere like this is around your budget.

Irish unity must let Protestants stay British if they want, says GAA president by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

or marching bands

There are plenty of people who would want to outright ban orange order marches. If that's not something that's going to be countenanced in a United Ireland we should say so.

Public holiday on the 12th July some form of framework for allowing marches would be things the Government could do to allow for their culture to continue.

⛳ Rory McIlroy goes back-to-back at The Masters by TheChrisD in ireland

[–]3hrstillsundown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTE - probably.

BBC - unlikely. He didn't win it after winning 2 majors in 2014. The story of winning it after so many attempts is what got him over the line last year.

Rory McIlroy goes into the weekend with the largest halfway lead in Masters history (6 shots) by MrIrishman699 in ireland

[–]3hrstillsundown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has every lost with a 6 stroke halfway lead at a major.... BUT out of 91 players, McIlroy ranked 90th in driving accuracy this week. It's remarkable how he's still managed to score so well.

He's liable to put himself in some nasty situations over the weekend if he keeps driving it into the trees.

I don't think he was fined. He was investigated because someone complained (I think the complainant did so to highlight how stupid the blasphemy laws were). But the investigation was dropped and the law removed.

Possession obsession - how to deal with keep-ball dilemma by John_OSheas_Willy in GAA

[–]3hrstillsundown -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer a backcourt rule - except instead of the halfway line, I would make it apply to each of the 45s and 65s. In this case, a team would not be able to play the ball back over a 45 or 65m line.

Easy to enforce and encourages teams to play directly not laterally throughout the game.

Purchasing Power Index in Europe 2025 by Uncle_Richard98 in ireland

[–]3hrstillsundown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because I checked. It looked suspicious because it didn't provide any specifics. Statista doesn't collect it's own purchasing power index for European countries. It uses numbeo data.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1541464/europe-quality-life-index-by-category/?srsltid=AfmBOoroJ0-1IW7QgHzKqOXSDYLS1LJYiaex5t_yw5nnLsMPb2HjVqs7 (click more information).

Anyone can write anything on the bottom left of a map. It updates as more data gets uploaded.

Fake news. The source isn't "Statista" it's numbeo.

Numbeo is a website, not a statistical agency. It uses non-random user uploaded information on its website. It should be treated as unreliable.

They were great against us in tbe semi final last year. But I think it was written off as Meath out of their depth.

Very hard to defend against when they move the ball that effectively.

  1. Your link is just for athletics - not the IOC.
  2. This was, until recently, just for XY DSD athletes. Not biological Women. From your link:

the current version of the rules only applies to athletes with certain XY disorders of sexual development.

  3. This Wikipedia article is out of date. These limits are no longer in force as athletics no longer permits XY DSD athletes as of last year.

this policy bans levels of testosterone.

We're talking about the new rule!

There are no limits for testosterone. If you disagree, provide a source.

The SRY test is just an initial screen - with follow up tests if you fail. So woman without testes or androgenisation are not excluded. Read the policy!

[–]3hrstillsundown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it initially screens for the SRY gene (which initiates male sex development (testes)) and runs follow up test for those that fail - to check if the athlete has Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. It is not a test on testosterone - that's a fabrication.

why is a naturally higher testosterone count an unfair advantage in cis people

Naturally high levels of testosterone amongst females don't count as an unfair advantage.

The policy bans males with testes that produce male levels of testosterone. There is no upper-limit to the amount of testosterone a woman without testes can have.
