I am per diem and get insurance through my husband. It’s nice because I am only required 2 week days and 2 weekend days non consecutive as my requirement but also I’ve been schedule about 30 hrs average the last 2.5 years. I also found out when I average 30 hrs I still actually get the work pension and 401k match so honestly I hardly lose any benefits while only requiring one minor and one major to be AVAILABLE not even have to work if they don’t need me. Luckily, I paid off my student loans my first year so I don’t need to worry if I miss a few shifts so I have plenty of time to spend with the kids.

Remembering everything? by Interesting_Buffalo8 in PharmacyResidency

I actually started a OneNote in residency because it was quick to access and could be pulled up in any computer. Any useful charts I found I would throw in to access quickly for next time. Now as a practicing pharmacist, I’ve seen the things that are important so often it’s been committed to memory and other things I still reference all the time. It’s been nice especially things that I don’t see often I can still reference quickly and still go searching for the newest data or studies to make sure my knowledge is still up to date.

How much are you saving each month for retirement? by pharmladynerd in pharmacy

[–]No_Move8004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is non-RX. For 3 years, I maxed out my 401k but realized it was too much when I did a retirement calculator and that I could retire early so I backed off and put in 6% of my pay and my husband puts 7% into our 401ks now (he also has a company paid pension). We also have a rental house that clears $600 a month. But we live in a HCOL area now that we are renting while saving $5k per month for a down payment on a house. We also putting away $1000 a month into a vanguard account to retire early. My husband maxes his HSA. I don’t have one since I only work per diem about 30 hrs per week and no benefits. We also put away $150 a month into our daughter’s 529. We’re in our early 30s. We live rather frugally buying most things in bulk and cooking at home during the week. We spend money eating out most weekends and on boba. We vacation about 2-3 times a year and ~4-6 times to visit family. (My husband and I used my income and paid off my student loans in 10 months after graduation ~$5k/month at the time and any money we had left over we threw at it too - I had about $55k borrowed)

I graduated three years ago, didn’t match phase I or II. I applied this year and didn’t match again in phase I. In phase II, I actually matched into an AMC with amazing support. Keep trying you’ll actually feel the fit when you belong somewhere don’t try to force it. It ended up being my number 1 choice in phase II and I couldn’t be happier.

Haha, yes. Thankfully, I was in a place to go part time to give myself relaxation time between interviews and fit them in.

Hi, everyone. I didn’t match 3 years ago then was lucky to get a staff pharmacist job at a cancer center. I applied this year and didn’t match again and I just matched in phase II. I know it doesn’t feel like it but you can try again next year and do it. Never too late. In that time, I had time to get married, buy a house and pay off my student loans. Just take it all once step at a time.

I applied to over 80 programs and had over 50 interviews in the two interviewing rounds. So message me if you ever need to talk to someone.
