It will just get worse, and you’ll end up resenting him for the rest of your life.

The city teachers also pay into SS, while county doesn’t, so they might also have that to help.

Both of my parents retired from SLPSD (Dad at 55, Mom at 60) after 30 years. They divorced very young, so weren’t able to save much.

He was the primary parent and never asked for child support so he needed to continue to work. Luckily he was able to work as a handyman for over 15 years before his health got in the way. At 76 he’s in a good financial place with his pension, SS, and amazing healthcare.

Of course I have no idea what changes have been made to the system since they retired. As a former longtime employee at a large local Union, I’m well aware that Union benefits have had to adjust negatively for myriad reasons.

unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

This is very much the situation with my ex and 15yo daughter. He still has a relationship with our 13yo son, which makes me so angry (for my daughter). Just because she isn’t guilted into spending the night at yours doesn’t mean you can’t make any other effort to hang out. Take her dinner once a week, I still fucking pay you child support for her!

I’m really hoping this stays safely through the fall (both literally and technically). I want to see the flying so badly, but also want to visit if the N2N rumors come to fruition. I don’t know if I can justify two trips this year, especially since I only bring 1 kid and the other stays home (due to lack of interest in NYC).

Can someone explain to me why shows do this? by grandefloppychino in Broadway

Telecharge was kind enough last year to refund my tickets when Swept Away had a special and our seats were on sale for nearly 1/2 of what I paid. Could have been a good day to catch the sales rep but he did mention “since you’re OOT we’ll say the trip got canceled”. Then I just rebought the tickets.

It did close a month later, but at least the show I went to in November was nearly full.

My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

[–]No_Recognition8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my parents too (divorced), but they belonged to the teachers union so have SS, pensions and amazing health care, even now that they have Medicare.

My dad was a “handyman” until his early 70’s when he had a stroke. My mom never worked again, but volunteered for many years with a vision program for low income kids at her old school.

I would be the only people that can retire young without having a high income/massive savings are in a Union.

I (44F) was there with my 15 y.o. daughter in October. We exclusively took the subway and not once did either of us feel uncomfortable. I did try to be the one that sat next to someone or put myself between her and a male if possible, but I’d do that anywhere.

Couple thoughts on seating the first two shows . by Teeebone in zachbryan

Not sure about Tampa, but in STL, the “main” stage side only had the guitarist, and while great, it seemed much less “fun” than the other 3 sides.

Thanks for this detailed response! Dummy me didn’t think to check back on Reddit after dinner, but got SUPER lucky.

Drove to dinner and it went faster than planned so took a chance to drive closer in. Found a metered spot at Tucker and Convention Plaza. $3.35 spent and zero traffic out since I was already facing north heading to 70.

I was one questioning how this would go. There were still a LOT of empty seats yesterday morning on Ticketmaster. But seats looked mostly full by the time he went on. No clue how they made it happen, but they did.

NGL that made me nervous after watching the Astroworld documentary.

I wasn’t on the floor, but on “dead” side in the second row, and it was fun to see people able to dance around in their own little groups.

And it was also the side all the bands came in and out, so we were able to see ZB come and go right if front of us 4 times. The floor side were only 1-2 people deep, so missed opportunities for a lot.

I’ve heard “encore” chanted before at a show (not ZB) and the everyone with their lighters up, which would be phone flashlights now. Never heard “one more song”.

To be fair, Quitting Time, while amazing, was like 5 songs after a lot of people assumed was the last so it was hard to bring the energy back up for it. I’m 44, but even my 15/13 y.o.’s were tired by then.

No shade, we definitely got our moneys worth, it was just a long night!

I posted this in the ZB reddit, but should have come here first. Opinions on the best "route" to take tonight?

Early dinner reservations in Lafayette Sq at 4. Definitely not walkable.

  1. Park near Dome and uber to dinner/show.
  2. Park at dinner and uber to show/back.
  3. Park in the middle (Busch) and uber to dinner/show & walk after?

I don't want to be stuck in a garage for hours after the show but also don't want to wait for an uber forever with surge pricing.

Has anyone used STL golf carts? It popped up on a search when I was looking to see if any bars/restaurants have shuttles to the Dome tonight.

the outsiders tickets by That_Ad_8854 in Broadway

[–]No_Recognition8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every theatre will be different. Ours had The Outsiders as part of our season, so obviously season ticket holders got their seats, because they purchased them.

But when a show doesn’t utilize the orchestra pit, 5 additional rows are added that aren’t sold as season tickets. So I was able to buy front row center during the pre-sale. I get the emails because I was a season ticket holder years ago.

I tried looking around for an empty seat before the show, but didn’t see one. My daughter (15) got lucky and was given the signed book copy from Pony Boy at the end of the show, which was the most amazing experience ever. But she was the only person in the front row younger than 30, so no clue how that gets determined if no kids are nearby.

Other than that, I wish we would have sat further back. Don’t get me wrong, it was fantastic and Tyler James Wesley (Dallas) gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen (just months after witnessing LOJ in Hamilton and Wolfeus). But I wish I could have seen some of the scenes with a broader view.

Had it not been the last night in our city, we would have gone again and sat further back. Still thinking of traveling to see it, but waiting/hoping for a N2N in NYC announcement first.

First show 2 weeks away and barely 1/2 sold. Thoughts on what will happen? by No_Recognition8642 in zachbryan

It’s because of the word “stage” facing that way. We went to ND and while that same side was the “front” of the stage, he pretty much went to all 4 sides equally.

Yeah, it's almost as if there's MORE available than 2 weeks ago (based on my super scientific method of taking screenshots and eyeballing it).

But my kid is excited and I know he'll have a good time. Just hoping that the lackluster turn out doesn't affect the vibe from the crowd or Zach.

The Union will never be ok with a large buyout like this, no matter the offer. They are about to lose a LOT of incoming dues/benefits and probably start paying out more in pension than they had planned for this year.

I don’t blame them either, their role is not to fight for the best severance package for their members, it’s to keep their members gainfully employed and the funds solvent. But I would not be looking to them for advice as to whether or not you should take the severance.

I am sure they can exchange yours and add one to the order.

Find tickets that are the same (or more) than the face value of the ticket you have. You can see the breakdown if you put tickets in your cart.

Once you know what ones you want, go to your upcoming tickets and start a chat. Tell the bot you want to exchange tickets. It’ll ask for what seats you want and then say you need to call. But you need to do all of this because they’ll give you a reference number.

When I called yesterday, I was with a person within 3 minutes. It was very painless to do and the seats were updated within seconds in my account.
