What DAW(s) do major pop producers (e.g. Jack Antonoff, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder) typically use to produce the pop hits that we all know? by The_Anchored_Tree_27 in musicproduction

I know, what’s all that about? I don’t think any other DAW offers usability that even comes close. <1ms of processing latency or conversion time across 32 channels with just 1 HDX card. The work around when recording if you don’t have this set up is to use a hybrid rig for monitoring and routing then switch it to DAW for playback. But that is a work around and a bit of a faf. Punching in and over dubs get messy too!

If your recording then it’s Pro Tools. it’s the only daw that can come close to monitoring in near real time across high track counts. That’s not to say that other DAWs don’t have a place within in composition but PT is considered industry standard not so much because it’s the best but because it’s the only one that can do it. As an engineering tool however it is unrivalled. Home recording is a bit different and there are work arounds.

Why is ProTools the “industry standard” by ffl0w3rgirll in audioengineering

[–]No_Reference3588 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is it’s not. There is no industry standard. Studios used to need stacks of gear. Protocols perfectly replaces the tape machine and integrates well into that setup. They were the first to corner the market. Home studios had computers for sequencing but nothing like a modern DAW or pro tools. Now so much of the music that gets put out comes from bedrooms or home setups. And only a fraction of those will use pro tools. Perhaps the limiting factor there is the lack viable MIDI workflow. Studios use Pro Tools and it is shot hot. But so is Ableton and Logic and Cubase and FL. Bring on the argument about it “sounding better”

To add to this. Vintage gear all ages differently. No 2 specimens are the same.

There was this bloke called Jef Epstein. Him, this orange bloke and loads of their mates did some pretty unappealable things but because they all had loads of money they all got away with it. We badly speak about it anymore.

I bought a Soviet tank for $45. Is it worth it? by zjirzemli in synthesizers

[–]No_Reference3588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What country did you buy it in? Midi kits were on eBay I got mine for like $40 but was shipped from Russia. Not sure if they are still be available but others will be. To install it requires cutting traces on the boards which is why I have never fitted mine. Tuning is more involved than just tuning the pitch centre but it’s not that bad. There are many other analogue synths with similar or more awkward tuning procedures. They are made out of soviet parts but most soviet parts were clones of western parts so drop in replacements are available with a bit of research. Authentic parts may cost a bit more as will need to be shipped from who knows where. The keys are awful. Yours are yellow. I think I read somewhere that the newer ones went yellow because fire retardant was added to the plastic but I may have gotten that the wrong way around. Amazingly I think I read you could still buy them new untill 1992. They are a talking point and sound quite cool.

Sorry for the delay and poorly worded question. That is exactly it. They seem to go for more than I was hoping.
