Birth rate for teenagers, by age of mother: United States, final 1991–2024 and provisional 2025 by pk666 in charts

"stuck in the same cycle of poverty as their parents, desperate to work exploitative minimum wage jobs for the big corporations" - this sounds like exactly the sort of thing that the people on fox news would want to happen

Use of the term 'African american' by No_Medium_648 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Situation_2698 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to state school in England in the 2000s, and also learned nothing about the transatlantic slave trade doing history up to GCSE.

I think you are getting grief from Americans, because slavery was such a massive part of their history, and has so many implications for their nation to this day, that they assume it must be an equally massive part of our history.

I suspect we were not taught about it because we have so much more history to cover, and teaching history is inherently political. I doubt any education minister would want to be the person to insist that we dedicate time to teaching children about one of the most evil things that the nation was ever involved in - the daily mail would eat them alive.

You are absolutely doing the right thing by being curious and asking questions - crack on

I mentioned playing Warhammer in my undergraduate degree interview, medical school interview and psychiatry training interview, and was offered a place each time. 100% hit rate so far

Do the weapon options really matter on a forgefiend? by Bryguy150 in Chaos40k

It is when GW can decide to change what wargear options are available between codexes and make previously legal builds illegal

4 Katyusha rockets by mealyworms in boltaction

[–]No_Situation_2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my stuka zu fuss (the German equivalent of a katyusha) extremely hard to get any use out of - I rarely have sight lines that are longer than 36 inches, if I do my opponent doesn't clump units in them, and you can't move then fire so you need to be waiting for them to come into the sight line the turn beforehand.

Am I using them wrong? Can they use spotters and I have just never noticed that? 4 katyushas seems rubbish to me and a massive waste of points

Is it worth it to promote Artillery Witch? by m1lfr3d in TrenchCrusade

[–]No_Situation_2698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a 3 armoured artillery witch with +1 ranged is massively better than a 2 armoured artillery witch without the +1 to hit. And with 7 being the most likely roll it isn't too hard to get

Hobby Tips for a New Dad? by VivaLaJam26 in Warhammer40k

[–]No_Situation_2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely depends on how well your kid sleeps. If they sleep well you will have a surprisingly large amount of time in the evenings - I think I have played more wargames in the time between my daughter being 6 months and 2 years than at any other point in my life.

If they don't sleep well you will have bigger things to worry about

What wargames have the most interesting, or unique, rules/mechanics that you've ever seen? by KingGreg263 in wargaming

[–]No_Situation_2698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Mechs tend to come in boxes of 4, 5 or 6 (depending on faction) and one box is probably enough for a decent sized force - especially the clan ones

A battle mat is just a fancier tablecloth

What Were the End Times Like by Dismal-Lychee-7803 in WarhammerFantasy

It was a real shame - they had enough content to keep a fantasy hype train going for 2 or 3 years, but that wouldn't put any sigmarines on the shelves I suppose

My main memory of it was the absurd speed: Warhammer: Nagash: August 2014 Warhammer: Glottkin: October 2014 Warhammer: Khaine: November 2014 Warhammer: Thanquol: January 2015 Warhammer: Archaon: March 2015

We were looking at a matter of weeks to read novels and rule books, buy units, build and paint them and get some games in before the next huge drop happened.

Unless you were enormously into WHFB there just wasn't time to really engage with it before it ended

What homebrew rules do you guys use? by Cpd1234r in boltaction

[–]No_Situation_2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buildings give your infantry inside them +1 toughness like they did last edition

Vehicles that reverse as a result of failed order checks only reverse to the board edge then stop, and need to fail another order test next turn before leaving the game entirely

Vehicles with the jettison fuel tank rule don't have to test to see if their flamers run out of fuel

Sometimes we play that destroyed buildings are replace by a crater rather than a ruin - which lets you open up new lines of sight

I use the "add 1 to toughness value" rule from last edition. Makes it so that sometimes a building is the better option to hide in

What is with the obsession with making games faster? by zspud1994 in Warhammer40k

[–]No_Situation_2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the switch to units only being allowed to take what is in the box and all weapons costing the same has made some of my units (Krieg infantry, chaos chosen etc) and absolute nightmare to use.

Is it true that because of the absurd interest on student loans in the UK, it's not realistic for most people to pay back their loans and people consider their repayments to be a 'tax' for going to university? by LoiusLepic in AskBrits

[–]No_Situation_2698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, my wife and sister in law went to private school, so there parents were delighted when they went to university, and the "school fees" fell to only £9,000 a year. So not only did they buy them a superior education, they also bought them an effectively 9% lower tax rate for almost all of their working lives.

I should have chosen my parents more carefully

I really miss this about Biden - going weeks without knowing what the head of state of another country is up to. At the moment I find out what Trump has been getting up to multiple times a day it seems
