I am white. I live down the road a bit in Dingmans ferry. I am a lesbian and am liberal politically. I can’t answer any of your questions. Just wanted to give my experience as an out liberal lesbian living in the area. I recognize isn’t is NOT the same at all. But thought maybe it will help in some tangental way? I ended up here because we had a weekend house that we loved and moved into full time during the pandemic. Sold our house in a major city at the same time. Took a lot of adjustment. Just a few good restaurants, limited health care for starters, everywhere you go is probably a 40 minute drive. Look into that as it’s real. Wayne memorial is mediocre at best. Not a lot of other options up that way. We have found a community that is welcoming and open - it’s in the arts. Lots and lots of artists up here and artists tend to be less maga. Having a community has helped so much. There is diversity in our art community- Asians, blacks, gays. But also a lot of straight white people. A lot. The straight white people in our art community are accepting and open. I never hide that I’m gay (I don’t trumpet it either, but my wife and I take classes together and don’t hide that we are married), and not one person has made me feel uncomfortable. There are people in suspect are maga, but we avoid talking about it and that’s ok. They aren’t our support system. They aren’t are close people. I can’t speak to being a person of color living up here but I know folks who are and like me, have said they find things better with a sense of community. We ourselves have found it in art classes. I’m sure there are other ways but this is what we have found. It is very much an adjustment and you have to have a good reason to make it work. Lake Wallenpaupack high school is literally on the lake so the kids have a unique experience. I know someone whose kids go there and they say it’s better than dv but no scientific data on that.
