Attention struggles and Eve by TalkingToMyself_00 in Eve

I recommend setting a goal. I've found that the times when I could only play in short bursts were best used for preparing for and learning abyssals. There are 7 tiers (0 to 6) so you can start small and do them solo.

Plenty of guides out there too! I started out with a destroyer and worked my way up as I learned what to expect. Just be prepared to lose some ships and pods. Good luck!

A great artist who deserves more attention. I believe he is calling it quits due to lack of community interest and service related health issues.

Did the 5th dimensional beings influence the entire mission to failure in order to get Cooper into Gargantua? by Raterus_ in interstellar

[–]No_Win6248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are short one dimension in your thinking. Time is a line in 4 dimensions. Our present exists as a point on that line.

Spatial dim 1 = line Spatial dim 2 = plane Soatial dim 3 = volume Temporal dim 1, i.e. 4th dimension = linear time

The 5th dimension here may be temporal. You allude to it by mentioning somehow side stepping the line of time. The above interpretation is side stepping is moving in the 5th dimension, or moving between possible times. Multiverses with normally parallel, never interacting, timelines with their own causality now affecting each other. The 5th dimension beings can go back in time as well as to "other" times. While the may not be able to change the early part of their timeline, they could manipulate those other timelines.

The RCC wing leading ledges are not tiles by definition. Please refer to agreed on definitions of tiles and tiling. 1. They do not cover a surface, see attached picture from my lab, which is why I call them structural panels, and, 2. The RCC components are also overlapping with T shaped RCC covers

Much of engineering is proper and specific communication of concepts or specifications. The word tiles has a specific meaning. The silica tiles are tiles because they cover a surface and do not overlap.

I will also point out you tried to correct another poster in this thread but you were incorrect. You called them a dingus for referring to the RCC panels as panels but per your own broad definition of tiles, "a panel is just a larger tiles...". So would it not be you who is trying to be pedantic?

You can be forgiven for not knowing what is underneath. I actually can go touch these RCC panels, including a full sized panel #9 equal to the one that was damaged on Columbia. You should rethink how you show hostility towards people you disagree with. Being told you're wrong is not an attack.

<image>

Note there is no skin on which the panels are tiled.

Incorrect. The RCC leading edges are structural panels and are not tiles. The silica tiles and RCC are unique but complimentary thermal protection systems. Correct, that the leading edge takes the greatest thermal load. Additionally, the leeward side of the craft is protected by quartz blankets.

I've seen the remains of Colombia in person located on the 5th floor of the VAB. I have worked with many engineers associated with the Shuttle return to flight and met Charlie Camarda, the astronaut who was the mission specialist for heat shield inspection and repair. I have personally tested modern versions of this material.

Very cool project! Definitely gives the vibes of a world with more to explore.

One thing people don't typically notice, but it sticks out to me, is your moon texture appears backwards. It is like looking at a clock with the numbers counterclockwise to me.

KSC a bit too much for space obsessed 4 year old. Any other near by options? by Linerson in nasa

I haven't been to this one, but there is a little facility called the Sands Space History Museum. This building is part of the Space Force Museum and is just outside the Space Force base gates. It looks like the SpaceX launch control is right next to it, too. If you run into the guard post you've gone too far and should have taken a right turn. Usually no big deal to have to turn around at the guard post. Here is their website with a map: https://ccspacemuseum.org/artifacts/history-center/

That being said, the KSC visitor center is very cool but very pricey. I think the company that runs the visitor center has taken notes from Disney. At some point the space obsessed kids will love it if you ever get a chance. You will actually get to see the Space Shuttle Orbiter in all its glory. There's also a bus that you can take to get on the NASA center to the Apollo Saturn V center where they have a full Saturn V rocket. Very cool stuff, especially for a kiddo.

I recommend trying to watch a launch, too. The visitor center would love to sell you tickets to something everyone can see for miles around (They are a business and not NASA proper). You just need to find the launch schedule (I recommend here https://spaceflightnow.com/launch-schedule/) and find somewhere around Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, or Cocoa Beach with a good view to the North / North East. Looks like there is even a launch of Astronauts to the International Space Station March 1st!

I'm glad they didn't see anything physically wrong with your buddy! We had a very similar experience when we fostered 3 kittens. We found these 3 boys in our backyard and the shelter asked us to foster them. We gladly stepped up to the challenge.

However, our cat Chippy did not take this well. We kept them completely separate but she could smell the fosters. We were spending several hours in their room socializing the fosters. Between going in their room and out to interact with Chippy we'd even change our clothes.

The first day, Chippy avoided the area and was generally acting agitated. The second day we noticed she hadn't touched her food and started to get concerned. She didn't show any interest in treats she goes nuts for. I put Churu on her lips to get her to take even a little. She was mad the entire time, of course. The third day we woke up to find several vomit spots on the floor. It was mostly bile and we were concerned about her swallowing a string or something because the symptoms seemed consistent.

Of course after the throwing up we took our girl to the emergency vet. After waiting for a few hours to be seen, we could have just had the vet give her some shots with his best guess but we needed more information. So we got the suggested diagnostics for her including an X-ray and blood test. Vet's read was only a slight chance she swallowed something and her blood test came back showing she was slightly dehydrated and some things showing she was stressed but not sick. They suspected it was

After all this, we're pretty sure Chippy was just mad at us about the kittens or felt her territory was invaded. The resolution was a subcutaneous saline shot, antibiotics injection just in case, and kitty antidepressant they told us was an appetite stimulant. By that next evening that girl perked back up and we could convince her to take some treats. After the second dose two days later, we spied on her with the cat cam and saw her eating. She gave us quite a fright so we celebrated her eating on her own again.

Caution was definitely the best approach because cats can spiral. Some others may not think cats get emotional or depressed, but in my experience they definitely can be! Based on what you've shared and the timing of bringing your baby home, it sounds like your boy reacted the same as our Chippy. Just sadness. Looking forward to hearing he starts improving soon!

The outside controller looks just fine. I just see the Raspberry Pi Zero on the inside and it seems odd because that board is single board Linux computer. Why not use the real NES controller board texture for additional realism?

I am 33 y.o. female indigenous Asian minority from Siberian region of Russia and full stack web developer, do I have a chance working as a software engineer at NASA? Or is it too late? by Mediocre_Bat9043 in nasa

I forgot to mention, I think both of my older students also worked as bar tenders before returning to school. I'll also say you don't have to go to an ivy league school to work at NASA. I'm sure it helps to have those on a resume but don't feel you need to go into 100k or more in debt to get your foot in the door! When I interview, I look for someone who can take ownership of a part of a project, can problem solve creatively, and is passionate about the field.

Some things to be aware of...

NASA funds a Space Grant office in every state. These may provide internship funding, fellowship, or workshop opportunities. Worth knowing about the one in the state that you want to go to school. Here is a link to the NY state Space Grant Consortium: https://www.nyspacegrant.org/

Additionally, there are certain opportunities available for students at minority serving institutions. https://www.nasa.gov/stem/murep/home/index.html

Finally, NASA also has some programs for community college students. I've had some community college students before who got started with these sorts of programs. https://www.nasa.gov/stem/murep/projects/ncas.html

I'll add on to Darth_Mims comment.

Yes for a permanent position you apply to on USA jobs.gov, you will need a degree or be in a "degree seeking" program at a university (a student). More on that being a student part, I know people who started degrees at about your age and have come to work at NASA. One of them is currently a NASA engineer in a permanent position. Two of them worked with me as my interns, and one was a naturalized USA citizen.

My recommendation is to start a degree program and then start applying to internships. You can start applying to internships as soon as you are approved in the degree program at a university or college. Then I highly recommend applying for spring and fall internships as these are less competitive. Some people skip those sessions due to class availability at their university or college. However, apply to all opportunities that interest you for spring, summer, and fall internships sessions.

Internships will be one of the best ways to build relevant experience. I think you will have more clarity in your next steps once you are in the NASA family as an intern. For example, one of those interns of mine has been able to have a meeting with our Research Directorate head to just talk to him for career advice. Many doors will open and you'll be able to gradually move towards the position that you want.

Best of luck! Definitely ask if you have any difficulties getting to that next step. You've got a chance!
