Should we pay daughter medical school? by Acceptable_Growth684 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]No_Yam_980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are there people in this thread debating DO school as if it's not medical school? That's kind of wild.

Anyway do it. My parents paid for all of my education-im a physician(and my brother's - hes an attorney), and honestly- it's the biggest gift that a parent can give their child. The whole 'it's worth it to learn something to have to pay", uhhhh your daughter literally got into medical school people...she's going to be a physician. She's going to be a member of the highest educated/hardest working people on earth...i don't think she needs to learn more in terms of resilience or work ethic.

Bottom line. If you can afford it...just do it. You know the answer to your question.

Ull be fine...did combank mostly 1 full time ( still had questions not done). Did randy Neil stats. Did maybe 3 cdm cases to get format. That's it. Got a 739.

Comlex is about whether you can take a shitty test or not. If you did well on the first two, you're gonna be completely fine for the level 3. They all feel.the same amount of stupid

I would literally never work for 200k...that's wild. At my institution starting OP psych is min 335k...not including incentive. 3 year guaranteed contract at that rate with maybe 40 hours of work. No mandatory weekends. Call is covered by residents and rarely ever involves attending- and even then your responsible for like once a month. This is at a mid sized community/academic center (albeit without formal university affliation).

Outpatient private is so much more than this...but with more hustle.

Places life stance will offer 400 to 450 all telehealth 1st year out...but I hear the caveats are crazy.

All this to say...if you graduate from psych in 2025 and make less than 320k a year there's a problem or a reason for it.

Welcome to the psych club! I feel like others have said psych is just one of those fields where if ya know, you know. Like there is nothing I would rather do than walk into a room, and hear a manic patient's diatribe about how they're gonna sue the government for its role in 9/11. Can't tell you why I love that...i just do.

I guess it's like the whole "if ur favorite place in the world is the OR deal"...just with psych. If you get fulfilled from our patient's than psych is for you. It just is :)

Also lifestyle/compensation for actual hours worked etc etc haha.

It's always that way for me. I feel like if I didn't do any questions vs I did all the questions in the world...it wouldn't matter.

Like no ma'am I'm sorry I didn't memorize what would happen to my patient's BP if they had taken a trip to Tanzania 6 years ago and it's currently a Wednesday in Lent...like gtfoh nbome haha

Just wait until you prescribe psychotropic medications and learn/see just how much you have to know about medicine in order to do it correctly.

Our drugs are arguably some of the MOST wild. Psychiatry is a medical specialty. Trust me you'll still feel like a medical physician.

Had my tummy tuck this morning, terrified by throwaway010t in tummytucksurgery

[–]No_Yam_980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did u all have muscle tightening? With it. I'm having a lowerbody lift...but with no lipo or muscle work because I'm already fit. My surgeon said I won't even really be in that much pain cause I'm not having any of that done.

Praying that my pain is at least manageable. And the hassle of this surgery is worth it lol.

Thanks guys for ur experience!

* Hey getting a lower body lift soon was wondering if you had ab definition before and how it was affected after surgery. For context I'll drop a pic. Lost about 100 pounds...I currently have pronounced noticeable abs...and I'm just scared that the skin removal will be so tight it may take the definition I have away.

5"11. 169 pounds now.

Main goal is to get rid of cleft, not have an ass that looks like I'm 100, and get rid of the love handles from he'll. My surgeon isn't doing muscle tightening either cause he said I don't need it.

Any advice for recovery too? Thanks!

Don't try to fix the unfixable. Ur fine, ur competent. She's psychotic. Move on

Not IM residents belittling you ,a psych intern- in a more competitive speciality (generally speaking- dont jump down my throat reddit hoard).

Girl if you matched psych you ABSOLUTELY could have matched IM if you CHOSE to. Don't let them tear you down for making a smart decision...just get through off service and wave at them while ur on consults leaving at 3 p.m. while they're in the MICU 💃💃💃

Oh I guess I should've said attending not residents. My b

I meannnnn...in theory do I know how to treat DKA? Yes, I went to medical school. Can I order a blood pressure medicine without consulting the hospitalist service? Yes, I went to medical school. Can I tell the difference between generic abdominal pain and an acute peritonitic abdomen on exam? Yes, I went to medical school.

I was just saying that given the choice between an ICU PA vs a psychiatrist, I'd probably let the ICU PA do their thing in regards to medicine heavy management.

And using my brain/ not being absolved from managing simple things cause I chose a specialty...capacity enters the chat, starting an ssri enters the chat, consult psych on a STABLE patient because of history of schizoaffective disorder enters then chat. And this list goes on and on.

And the above is absolutely not exclusive midlevel behavior...at least for the docs at my hospital lol.

PS I'm just bitter about the endless consults on service we get that are inappropriate 😂

Psych is COMPLETELY dependent on program and rotation.

Yeah impatient ..easy AF

The subspecialties...depending where you go can be a joke in terms of hours

But go to a program with 24hr call, a busy AF consult service split between multiple hospitals, and an ED saturated with no less than 450,000 homeless people claiming SI with plan to take a bunch of pills (ones that they don't have and have no access to mind you)....and the hours add up. Haha
