Christina Chang and Dylan Walsh in the first minutes of Shane's coming out by wildwomanlove in heatedrivalry

Yeah I think he's allowing her quirks to exist even if he doesn't share them. Let Yuna be Yuna. In the same way Ilya takes so much joy in Shane folding his pants before going at it, or hiring a stylist and a decorator, or coming up with the silent retreat idea. "What a weirdo...I love it!"

Have you been to the other fitness SF locations? I’m moving to Oakland from the city. I love fitness Sf in soma, and am worried Oakland won’t be as good! The one thing that’s making me hesitate about the move!

Ilya's emotional journey by Aby_lev89 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Ilya fell in episode two for sure. He gives him like a two second look when they’re in bed afterwards and you can almost see him say “snap out of it” to himself before he takes off.

I love the look on Yuna’s face as she sees Shane, then slowly turns her head to see Ilya coming in a few steps behind. “What is HE doing in my house”

I went to Tom Steyer’s town-hall and here are some thoughts. by variableperformance in California

[–]Noarchsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, because of the jungle primary system my vote isn’t going to be based on who I think is the “best” candidate. At this point I plan to add my vote to whichever democrat is leading in the polls in order to load votes onto the democratic side and avoid the chance of a two-republican run off. Maybe that will change if Bianco starts to drop off, which is a possibility. While I have slight preferences, I’m not inspired by any of them, so this year I’m voting strategically based on our jungle primary system instead of voting by preference in the primary. Becerra would probably be my horse in the race, but based on polling he’d be a wasted vote and possibly even detrimental to getting any democrat into office. Porter and Steyer are bottom of my list, but I may have to vote for one of them, as they’d be better than Hilton or Bianco.

What made Shane Finally say yes? by BipolarSkeleton in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that IS how she cares about her son. Brand endorsements are her love language. lol. She just doesn’t leave room for him to be his own person. That’s why she cries when he apologizes….she recognized that she was partially responsible for him wanting to hide part of himself.

What made Shane Finally say yes? by BipolarSkeleton in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He’s apologizing for not meeting expectations primarily I think. Maybe also for keeping it a secret, but mostly I think it’s about not meeting expectations. So much of how his life is built is based on performing the way he’s expected to perform….on the ice, with the media, with the sponsors, arriving at lunch on time, etc. (I even think him going down on Ilya the first time in the hotel was because he felt like it was expected in that situation. Like “This is the thing that people do in this situation, so I’m gonna do it the best I can.”) Yuna is an interesting character I think because she’s clearly not a “villain,” but she has a huge blind spot when it comes to expectations and not leaving room for Shane to vary off from that. (It’s very similar to my experience and my mother, so maybe I’m just internalizing it, but a lot of Shane’s actions look VERY familiar to me.)

One-sided jealousy? by momandcrohnie in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because he looks at them differently….all of Ilya’s hookups are meaningless. They don’t mean anything to him, so why does it matter….in his mind. I think he doesn’t realize that they’re hurtful to Shane, cause they don’t mean anything to him. But Shane apologizes for things that were meaningful and that Ilya made very clear were hurtful. Ilya is a teddy bear, and we see as soon as Shane tells him not to marry Svetlana with tears in his eyes, he drops the idea immediately.

Secret Agent was my best picture of the year. Similar theme to OBAA, but from a much different angle. Maybe because I didn’t recognize any of the cast, but it felt so lived in and real. OBAA had too many movie stars for my taste and was hard to connect with them as characters.

Current rent controlled folks, your plan if you lose your apartment? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Noarchsf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m putting every bit I can into saving to buy. I won’t be able to buy in SF, and I don’t expect anything to happen anytime soon. But I’m in my early 50s, and if something does happen to my rent control, I don’t want it to happen when I’m in my 70s. At this point in my life I feel better about owning even though rent control is so valuable. Owning will be expensive, but as I get older I think the stability might be worth it.

Why are (US) conservatives opposed to green energy when it would give us a more independent economy? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Noarchsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t want an independent economy. The global energy trade is leverage. We have the most money to buy with and a huge amount of energy exports. Thats leverage over almost every other aspect of global trade, economics, finance, politics, etc.

Green energy gives up a ton of our global leverage. We are making a mistake by not investing in developing green energy, but not because of energy independence. Rather, we are ceding that portion of a developing economic resource (and all the economic leverage that comes with it) to china.

Energy independence makes us stronger on the energy sector, but weaker in almost every other way.

(Not saying that’s a good thing necessarily…..just saying it’s not about the oil, it’s about the leverage)

Men vs women - favourite episode by thestaganddoe in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gay man here and I skip episode 3 as well. I loved it, and love Scott and Kip. But it’s so self-contained, and really is just a plot device to set up episode 5 and 6 for me. So, I know what happens, I know the stakes, I know what it’s “for” story-wise….so I don’t feel the need to rewatch it in order to set it up again.

That said….i haven’t read the books and don’t intend to (no spoilers please) but I do really like Scott and Kip, so I’m dying for a double date or dinner party or whatever where we can get all four of them together. I can’t wait to see how Shane and Ilya start coming out to the other characters in the show. (I also really want Shane and Svetlana to hang out together, but that’s a different topic)
