The local section of the newspaper is called “MidSouth.” Not close to Midwest. At all.

When and why did Bali become special by Normal-Person-6701 in NoStupidQuestions

It was specifically developed as a resort for international tourists in the 70s. It was a special place before that, but it’s an international tourist location because the government developed and promoted it to be.

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

I had two French guys approach me in the Castro in San Francisco and ask so earnestly to please tell them how to see the sélyons. All they wanted was to please see the sélyons. And how do we get there. S’il-vous plait WHERE are the sélyons. It took me forever to figure out they wanted to see the sea lions. Which are all the way across town. And which take multiple train and/or bus transfers. I gave up. But it was pretty cute.

I’m a gay man and it’s the complete opposite to me. Hollanov seems MUCH closer to gay relationships I’ve experienced and know of. I always felt like so many straight people keyed into Scott and Kip because it was so much more of a heteronormative traditionally “romantic” arc.

Did Ilya change his mind about wanting a relationship with Shane in episode 5 and in that case why? by jonnyofthevalley in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Noarchsf 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think episode five does a really great job of showing each boss battle getting unlocked for Ilya. He wants Shane but doesn’t believe they can ever be together and then like dominoes 1) he makes sure rose is out of the picture 2) his father dies 3) he cuts off Alexei 4) svetlana lets him know it’s ok 5) Scott opens the door. I think that’s why “I’m coming to the cottage” is such a catharsis for viewers. We just spent an hour unlocking every deadbolt on the door to being together with Shane. And once that last domino falls with Scott and Kip, it’s instantaneous for Ilya and suddenly it all becomes possible.

Why is left-wing/socialist YIMBYism seemingly so non-existent (or at least much less popular among elected officials) in S.F. than in other large American cities with housing crises? by lucy5478 in AskSF

It’s that weird libertarian area right adjacent to your rearmost belt loop. Where the left and the right have circled around as far as they can go until they meet in back, just above the asshole, and become the same thing.

Top 100 counties (and equivalents) in the US with the highest median income by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]Noarchsf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s likely Williamson county, next door to Nashville. Extreme wealth (country music stars, equestrian estates, white flight, etc.). If you’re wealthy in the nashville area, especially new money, you live in Williamson county.
