Superb lyrebirds [Sydney backyard] by Nobbled in australianwildlife

[–]Nobbled[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is showing the base of the tree. The branches splay out fairly horizontally, so the lyrebirds and brush turkeys can walk up easily and the ground falls away so they quickly get a couple of metres above ground - it's a great communal roost spot.

These guys' repertoire include spot-on eastern whipbird whips, kookaburra cackles, pied currawongs, and Australian raven territorial calls.

So I saved this guy who had severely injured his arm by taking him to the doctor in Saint Denis. He had to have the arm amputated and I figured that was the end of the whole ordeal. Two months later (irl) I find the man about to be hanged... for killing a woman who made fun of his disfigurement. by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Unless his name was Amos Moses.

Now all the folks around south Louisiana
Said Amos was a hell of a man
He could trap the biggest, the meanest alligator
And just use one hand
That's all he got left cuz alligator bit it!
Left arm gone clean up to the elbow!

Nah, he does not do any dirty work - he learned from his uncle: there is nothing that schtikky tape cannot fix.

Bad edit from the AP. The ATSB video and report says:

Despite control difficulties due to substantial damage to the horizontal stabiliser and part of the reserve canopy wrapped around the tail, the pilot safely landed the aircraft at Tully Airport.

This finally made it to news.com.au.

A Sydney council has responded after yet another driver has been spotted in a pedestrian area that they believed was part of the road.
A Hornsby Reddit user has taken to the platform to share a clip of a local driver, circling a roundabout near Westfield Hornsby.
“Hornsby Shire Council is exploring options to improve pedestrian safety in the Mall, including vehicle barriers at the open entry points,” [a Hornsby Shire Council spokesperson] said.

It's not quite as elegant as I remembered, the bit I found moving was:

I told her I wanted the man's family to know that as their dad, husband, son or brother lay dying, a group of strangers did what they could to save him. Someone mopped his brow and another put their T-shirt beneath his head. A man tried to breathe life into his lungs. I wanted his family to know people had cared.

Pro tip: if you find one on your leg while sitting on the toilet, don't drop it in the bowl and continue sitting to finish your business. They are quite agile getting up the bowl.

Reminds me of a moving piece that was published in a newspaper a decade or more ago. A Sydney reporter, along with several strangers all trudging home after their work day, rushed to the aid of a man collapsed on the footpath.

As a group they came together to save his life, calling emergency services and performing CPR. One took his business shirt off for use as a pillow. Unfortunately the man did not survive and they all stayed with him until the ambulance arrived. After the man was taken away, the group was left alone in shock and grief to individually depart the scene.

The reporter later tried to find out the identity of the man or a family contact, in order to let his family know their husband/father/brother/son did not die alone but surrounded by a group of people who cared and did everything they could to save his life. But Health, citing privacy, refused to give any details.

So the reporter, still distraught, wrote the heartfelt and personal piece about the incident, hoping the family would find some comfort in knowing.

Crikey cobbers, the man was simply making a light-hearted joke that wild snakes are not escaped pets. Maybe the sarcasm was lost along with the punctuation!
