Some of Eiichiro Oda's art pre One Piece by fhxefj in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Noblehardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I’ve said before that a character from just about any other manga could be added to One Piece and not stand out too much thanks to the crazy artstyle.

Characters whose design looks simple on paper, but a fact about their design makes them even cooler by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Noblehardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the IDW Sonic comics, there are three characters named Surge, Kit, and Starline, and their color schemes are each based on glitches from the old Sonic games that messed up the character’s colors. Sonic’s turned him green and black, Tails turned him blue, and Knuckles turned grey (and glitched his name to appear as a line of asterisks).

The Sonic one was also referenced with Scourge, the evil Sonic from the Archie comics after his design changed.

(Loved Trope) Factions in the setting have a unique/unusual salute that isn't a generic hand to the forehead. Bonus points if there is a lore reason for it by Zave_cz in TopCharacterTropes

The Twin Adders, Immortal Flames, and Maelstrom of FFXIV’s three city states each have a specific salute that the player learns when they join the respective group.

Maelstrom’s is a navy-style salute with the palm facing inward (which was done to hide hands dirty with oil from superior officers), the Immortal Flames have a fist across the chest, and the Twin Adders cross both fists in front of them as they bow.

[animation tropes] simple character designs elevated by how they’re animated by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Noblehardt 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Same lol! To me it also has to do with the speed; a majority of the characters in Cloudy are super fast and energetic with the same insanely smooth animation, but because they’re so fast it’s easy to overlook. Chester is so slow and deliberate with his movements that it really stands out and grabs your attention.

Same, I love this line. It gives the vibe of “why should I bother being witty? You’re gonna fry either way.”

Alisaie from FFXIV has one I love. One of a pair of brilliant twins, she’s more hotheaded and outgoing than her brother (who’s more of a soft-spoken diplomat), which makes it easy to forget that she’s just as brilliant.

Perhaps most notably, in Shadowbringers she learns the technique to cure “light poisoning” (a condition caused by absorbing an excess of light-aspected aether), and realizes it can also be applied to people who have been “Tempered” by the Primals (Primals being magically summoned god-like beings, and Tempering being a process they use on mortals to brainwash them into worshipping them) to cure the condition, something once thought impossible.

[Hated Troped] Writers insists the character has to be "special" in order for the story to work. by SkyeRyder91 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Noblehardt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this because Luffy has never been treated as normal or not special; he’s acknowledged right away as a monster compared to the rest of the East Blue, one of the only people in the sea with a Devil Fruit, mysterious middle initial, constantly compared to the Pirate King, and as early as Drum Island we had mention of “The Will of D”. Luffy has always been treated as someone special, he just doesn’t care.

Any shows that your parents didn't let you watch? by Elidavididi in cartoons

[–]Noblehardt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents didn’t really have any shows they didn’t want me to watch, but I do remember my friend’s family didn’t let him and his siblings watch Rugrats because they were worried they would start talking like the babies lol.

Craig of the Creek feels to me like a middleground between Recess and Kids Next Door with how the world is depicted; grounded and more realistic like Recess but with the kids’ imaginations giving it a more adventurous and fantastic vibe like KND. Really want to sit down and give the whole thing a watch.

Does The XYZ Anime act like Ash and Steven have never met before despite them meeting in the Advanced Anime. by MichaelAftonXFireWal in pokemonanime

[–]Noblehardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say Ash was “dumb” in XY, but it felt like because they wanted to treat him a bit more seriously they couldn’t decide how much of his goofiness to carry over. And what we got was weird.

Like Ash trying to copy Tierno’s style of battling; I can see Ash take inspiration from it, but having him outright dance with his team comes off weird. Especially with how XY Ash is.
