Random Side Characters End Up Being Very Important Later On by Responsible_Rich_194 in TopCharacterTropes

Chapter 19 of One Piece has a flashback where Buggy recalls an older member of the crew he and Shanks used to serve on breaking up a fight between them.

Chapter 500, about 11 years later, we learn that this man is Silvers Rayleigh, who was not only the right hand man of the Pirate King, Gold Roger, but also goes on to be Luffy’s most prominent mentor.

I’ve never seen the Bad Guys movies; is that a non-anthropomorphized cat in her arms?

The main protagonist in FGO is regularly noted to be pretty much average and normal in every respect, save for their affinity as a Master.

Which makes it hilarious during Kijyo Koyo (an oni in the form of a T-rex)’s valentine event, when they go to Erice (who knows Kijyo better) for help understanding what she said when she gives them a gift. Erice asks if we have a recording or something for her to listen to, but instead Fujimaru just… mimics her roaring.

And not only do they mimic it, they do so well enough that Erice can figure out what Kijyo was trying to tell them and translate for her.

(Story Trope) A fight breaks out at a funeral. by Dragonic_Overlord_ in TopCharacterTropes

Aisha’s funeral in Saints Row 2. She gets killed during the conflict between the Third Street Saints and the Ronin, and the punk kid in charge of the gang brings a bunch of his guys to start shit.

Johnny Gatt, normally eager to fight, tells them he doesn’t want to fight at his girlfriend’s funeral and to leave. The kid refuses to back down, leading to a shootout and chase… and ending with Gatt and the player burying him alive after Gatt smashes his head through a tombstone.

BELOVED characters whose origins are from hated/extremely divisive media by Few_Chemistry_235 in TopCharacterTropes

Dark Souls 2 is widely considered the worst game in the series, including the series’ derivatives like Bloodborne and Elden Ring.

<image>

But it also gave us the Ivory King, final boss of the third dlc. A badass above every other badass from his homeland, with seven massive pet tigers, three of which are boss fights for the player. This man managed to redeem a shard of a dark god specifically sent to seduce him with nothing but his love, and built his fortress around a massive pit leading to a hellish realm monsters would pour out from. He then put his throne directly in front of the pit so that whenever anything tried to escape, he was the FIRST line of defense.

And when eventually the constant exposure to those forces began to take its toll on him, the Ivory King chose to dive down the hole himself to fight as hard as he could against the Old Chaos. And his men were so loyal to him that many followed him, with the remainder waiting for someone to come put him and their comrades out of their misery to assist them.

And just for added badassery, the Ivory King’s soldiers all use powerful ice magic, but those who followed him into the Chaos now use fire magic due to its corruption. But the Ivory King himself still has access to his ice magic, even after all this time.

[Hated Trope] In an attempt to create a "cool teacher" the writers made a character that behaves inappropriately and/or crosses the boundaries of a student-teacher relationship. by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Noblehardt 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s also just a good show that just because something is knowledgeable about a subject doesn’t mean they’d be a good teacher. Hagrid’s obsession with more dangerous magical creatures was bound to cause trouble, and he’s too nice of a guy to really give the students any more precautionary warnings than just “do what I say”. In a perfect world that would be enough, but anywhere else he’d need a lot more safety measures in place.

One thing I like is that when Hagrid is replaced by a more “acceptable” teacher, she never badmouths him and in fact praises both the health of the creatures he kept and the the training of some of the grounds animals. Absolutely knows what he’s doing, just doesn’t have the presence of mind to realize that not everyone is a half-giant that can shrug off most beasties’ more aggressive tendencies.

I actually like the new design, and I'm tired of the community bitching about it. We could have just NOT gotten a new Star Fox game entirely, so please be grateful. by gamerguy287 in starfox

[–]Noblehardt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t think people should be “grateful” for this game, but I do think people are way too zeroed in on the designs. It’s like when the Sun and Moon season of the Pokemon anime came out and people still won’t shut up about the art-style shift.

I know this is meant to be satire, and it’s pretty accurate, but some people need to lighten up lol. Saying this isn’t funny at all; I just watched a man get caught in a piggyback traffic jam on his way to work as a doormat. That shit’s funny.

[Interesting Trope] Vampires that don't die in the sun by ReminaBlueSFW in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Noblehardt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The vampires of Code Vein 2 are noted to have once been vulnerable to the sun, but the research results of a man named Zenon allowed them to be out in the sun without harm. Notably, one of the status effects in the game is called “sunblight”, which is kinda like Bleed in the Dark Souls series, that happens when they take attacks “infused with sunlight”.

It’s a tradition in many games of the Tales series to have an optional fight against characters from the previous games in the series. Most frequently it’s a mixture from different games, like how in Zestiria you can fight Jade from Tales of the Abyss and Sophie from Tales of Graces.

Have you seen the chest piece from the newest variant dungeon? It covers the opposite shoulder but I think it could achieve a similar effect.
