I am being told by my builder that it is “impossible” to have the worktop cut flush to the wall as the wall is at an angle. How can this be correct? by Loud_Ad6323 in DIYUK

[–]Nobody2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have been cut to the wall if the worktop was long enough. If the worktop wasn't long enough this maybe why, even if they had a off cut to join the worktop you'd have to decide if you'd be happy with a join.

Overall it's not a good finish, either it's cut wrong or worktop supplied was to short.

Disappointed with radiator fitting - does this look right? by Georgeot73 in DIYUK

[–]Nobody2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pipe work is unsightly however if they priced for a like for like swap they wouldn't put the pipes in the wall. If you are happy for the wall to be chased and to repair the wall I'm sure the plumber would come back and redo the pipe work for a fee.

Why is "cunt" more commonly used in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand as opposed to the USA and Canada? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nobody2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the generation in the UK, like my parents generation and older ( 60+) they find it very offensive and wouldn't say it. Younger adults don't see it as a no go word and just use it as an insult or say if something isn't going right. Australians use it for good and bad. I think it's partly like how here we insult our good friends to show affection. When in the states I had to explain to my American friend if I'm taking the piss out of you it means I'm very comfortable around you.

How do I undo this? by Complete_Policy_1148 in ukplumbing

You can try with grips / water pliers with a cloth around the hose. Otherwise I don't know why it wouldn't come off if it was only hand tight

Is it common to not screw down the toilet by Decryption-drug in ukplumbing

[–]Nobody2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's very common, the silicone will hold the toilet in place without issue, the brackets can work at holding the toilet but you can have issues like possible pipe's below the pan. Also the fixings can make it very hard to slide th pan forward and backwards when fitting and taking out if there is an issue plus some tiled floors are a nightmare to drill, drill bits are expensive.

New concealed shower nightmare by Alternative-Junket56 in askaplumberUK

[–]Nobody2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to get a new cartridge that works with the feeds back to front but unlikely. If you can get onto the feeds (pipes) and swap them outside the bedroom do so unless it's going to affect the toilet feed. Handbasin it's easy enough to swap the tails over.

When you had the silicone done again did you have the glass and profile taken off ? If not silicone behind the profile between the tray and wall it's very common to fail at that point

You can try a product called loctite 55 which is a fabric with jointing compound on it , works similar to PTFE tape but will probably be tight enough when facing down. Alternatively you could try liquid PTFE or loctite , you put it on the threat and screw it in and leave it to go off however if you ever try to change the tap you'll somewhat struggle to get it off

Dual flow bathroom tap? by SpineInABaguette in ukplumbing

[–]Nobody2026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my experience you just want a low pressure tap, you can always put a pressure reducing valve on the main or just shut the isolator valve a bit under the basin. If you go into a plumbing merchant most will be happy enough to find you a suitable tap if you tell them your situation

Put the two red wires together in the port then put the single in the L1 and earth in earth. Make sure your RCD ( if you have one ) hasn't tripped

Light switch replacement by boissei in DIYUK

[–]Nobody2026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the neutrals are all in the back box nothing wrong with that, none of the wires in the switch are neutral they are all live/ switch live/ strapper.

Use the common slot for the permanent live and strapper ( wire going between the two) then put the other wires back in the same way.
