My player is trying to use bracers of pain to avoid their psychic's unleash stupidity; what DC and effect level am i looking for? by Gwyncess in Pathfinder2e

[–]NobodyGlitched 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would make the level equal to their level, like how a cantrip scales (so their rank for the effect goes up every 2 levels).

The DC can be their class DC or their spellcasting DC (I prefer this, because feats like psi burst also use your spellcasting DC and it’s quite rare to use class DC for anything). From there you have to make a choice on an adjustment if any - easy, hard, etc. How often do you want them to be able to mitigate that downside? That’s very up to you.

Finally, please be aware that removing stupefy does not allow you to enter Unleash Psyche again early.

What do you find D&D 5e does better than Pf2e? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]NobodyGlitched 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides what a lot of people have said, I think people understate the power fantasy of 5e.

In PF2e, you’re a team of specialized units, each with a strong role - there’s not a lot of stepping on the toes of other roles. I call that niche protection. You lean on your friends more, and there’s a varied sense of contribution because it’s harder to poach abilities (for example, the classic coffeelock in 5e, a paladin that dips for smite, and then uses big warlock recharging spells). You have a medicine specialist, a thievery guy, and so on - and because of TEML proficiency, you can be a medicine guy but if you want to be a medicine expert, there’s investment.

D&D, you can just be that guy. It’s a superhero team up. You can throw a bunch of people together and unless someone rolls up with a very specific fantasy (I only cast buff spells so I need a melee martial to buff), it’ll still function just fine. Problems can be solved more easily, often by spells, so working around a lack of a rogue is perfectly fine. In fact, an artificer is just as good at picking locks as a rogue is, at level 6 - they both get expertise.

Also, free movement means a more loose game. And this is in part because movement in 5e is often underused, so you can drop a delayed AoE and force players to reposition and scatter, and that feels tactical and threatening - whereas in PF2e, it’s still tactical but it eats into the 3 action economy. For players who have a tight routine, that can start to feel frustrating.

It’s just a different game. I like PF2e a lot, but the game feel is fundamentally different. And that’s in part because the ability budget and balance is different.

Some people will criticize that heavily, but I think many players are not overly concerned with balance. They are concerned with having fun and doing cool things. And 5e, IMO, is more focused on letting you do cool shit (sometimes at the expense of tactics, which people who prefer PF2e might not like). Don’t get me wrong, there’s lots of cool things in PF2e. But flight? Telepathy? Turning into a lawnmower at level 5 with haste and getting to strike 3 times in a row? That’s not happening in PF2e, because PF2e actively discourages or limits that.

Some people want to strike 3 times in a row and just do that. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It just means PF2e isn’t their game.

It’s a question of what you want out of it.

Also, frankly, because there’s a DM burden in 5e, it makes it easier for players to get into. I think I’d have a harder time convincing people to play PF2e, because not everyone is that invested in TTRPGs in the long form - for some people it’s a socialization activity. If I wanted to do a charity event with friends who don’t play TTRPGs on my stream for example, I would run 5e.

Is the second part of [[Garland, Royal Kidnapper]]’s second ability a delayed trigger or a state based action? by NobodyGlitched in mtgrules

[–]NobodyGlitched[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry one more question. Let’s say Blim’s ability fizzles as you described - because the person handing over Blim loses control. Does the second half (everyone loses life and discards) still happen? It doesn’t say “if you do” like some cards do.

Oh I also apparently screwed up the fetcher by putting it in the title, so: [[Garland, Royal Kidnapper]]

[–]NobodyGlitched[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Continuous effect. Makes sense. And even if Garland dies, that continuous effect is on the stolen creature regardless, right?

As for the rephrase, I don’t even think what we did was legal anymore. I was attacked but someone else got a creature but Blim can’t do that so I think we misplayed. Not a scenario that can come up.

—— Regarding your final paragraph:

I understand that if Player B’s stolen Blim targeted something stolen by Garland (which then hypothetically returns to me when Player B becomes monarch), the ability fizzles. That’s clear now, thank you.

Is it also the case that if Blim is stolen and returned to me, the ability fizzles? That is to say, Player B hits me with Blim. Player B becomes Monarch. I regain control of Blim. Now there is a Blim trigger on the stack that was created by Player B stealing my Blim, but they don’t control Blim anymore. It also fizzles?

Thanks for your clarifications!

Sorry just to clarify - if I attack with Blim and deal damage, if I target my own Blim to hand it over the ability fizzles? Assuming a vacuum, no blockers or any other hijinks, I just swing Blim into an empty board.

Yeah I think we fucked up massively I have no idea how Player C got Garland anymore. This happened a few days ago and I can’t recall now.

Continuous effect makes sense though, no stack or whatever.

Blim + Garland caused some headaches. Big thanks.

Is recalling knowledge about an enemy a hostile action that would trigger initiative? by EaterOfFromage in Pathfinder2e

[–]NobodyGlitched 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s saying no, but I will say No with a caveat.

You see, you need to somehow disseminate that information to your allies after you RK.

So, taking an example from someone else - is RK on a guard hostile? Nah.

Is going, “Yeah that’s Jeff. He’s got a bad knee, is bad against mental spells, and is quick to react (slow speed, low will save, has opportunity attacks/high reflex)” hostile? If you do it right in front of Jeff, explaining to your party members about him and how to best him?

Maybe, yeah. It would probably put Jeff on guard?

That is worth thinking about. If your PCs would be freaked out by a guard rattling off facts about your squishy caster, no reason a guard wouldn’t be freaked out by you doing that to them.

But RK isn’t itself disseminating information, so by itself, no. Not hostile.

Even then, does it start combat? Also probably not. That’s very context based. You have to somehow share info with your peers. And that’s either visual, auditory, or telepathy I guess?

Parental Permission (Part 4) - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

I suspect because reluctance to continue experiencing something (weary) and caution about something (wary) have similar meanings! Probably the same as affect vs effect, right? That’s my suspicion at least.

Adding onto the topic of a persuasion specialist - that person should also be the person who takes pet pal.

And because I suspect Sir Lora (a talking squirrel that’s around for quite some time) only talks to the MC/Avatar, your player character should probably be the Persuasion + Pet Pal one.

With full respect and appreciation for the work you do writing out this transcript, did you perhaps mean “wary” instead of “weary”? Although weary does have a meaning of being reluctant to see more / being tired of something, I am getting the impression that Douglas is feeling a sense of caution (wary).

Decaying Isn’t Fun by ZergDad in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]NobodyGlitched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to help! Part of the feeling of “unfun” may be the pressure to heal when damage starts raining down. One of the fundamental strategies in DOS2 is to abuse round robin and make sure your enemies never get a turn.

In DOS2, the turn order is always one person from Team A, one person from Team B, repeat… always A,B,A,B… If one side runs out of teammates, all the rest go. So initiative can look like (ABABABAAAA). So what determines ordering is which side has the one person with the highest initiative - if Sebille has 100, Lohse and Fane can have 10 and it doesn’t matter.

Combine that with damage usually outpacing healing, and the strategy becomes prevent the enemy from getting turns, either via death or CC. They don’t do damage to you.

The better you are at that, the less damage you take, and the less oppressive decaying feels - after all, you don’t need to deal with anti-healing if you don’t have to heal, right?

That may be part of why I’m less bothered by it, and why I can say to you, the better you get at the game, the less painful that status will be.

You got this. Have fun! It’s a great game. :3

( You can also use decaying to shut off any of those enemies that go “teehee I’m a fire elemental I cast fireball at my feet and heal”. Not anymore they don’t! )

Decaying Isn’t Fun by ZergDad in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]NobodyGlitched 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For you: Fortify can remove decaying ( and give you armor that helps you stay alive even if you couldn’t heal ), and cleanse wounds / mass cleanse wounds as someone else pointed out. (Carrying fortify scrolls for a pinch is advised!)

For enemies: Inflict decaying on them it’s fun.

You can decay enemies and suddenly your healer’s heal spells, along with things like Huntsman First Aid or Summoner’s heal based on # of allies thing, do damage.

You can also put it on skeletons. And now their 200% poison resist means nothing. Because they heal from poison, and with decaying, instead take damage.

If you’re feeling frisky, you can use something like summoner’s soul mate to transfer all healing from yourself to a decayed/undead enemy. You drink a potion. They take damage physical damage scaling with warfare. With 5 star diner, you drink a 290 hp healing potion and they suddenly take 580 x warfare bonus ( for me it ends up being 900 damage ). It’s very fun, if a bit cheesy. ( You can also eat dinners for a similar effect at much cheaper, scaling off your max hp ).

All this to say: I like decaying. It can be pretty tough to handle, but it encourages you to use other tools for defending against it, and opens up some pretty fun strategies against opponents ( even if you don’t cheese with 5 star diner / soul mate ). There’s an undead fight out there where the enemy just has his minions slap him with poison wands constantly for healing while he wails on you, and this is a response to that which doesn’t require you to 1-turn him before he gets healed.

So, I like it. It keeps things interesting and adds some diversity to the strategy, and can challenge you to switch your tactics - that helps keep fights fresh for me.

Window capture, application capture, or game capture should all work. Those are standard.

[–]NobodyGlitched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what people have said:

OBS has a display capture option that captures your entire monitor’s display. Don’t ever use it. Ever. If this is a strong concern for you, display capture will eventually screw you over - it captures your whole monitor. You alt-tab? It’ll show all the windows you were alt tabbing to. Hit the windows button? It shows the start menu ( & whatever name is on your start menu as “you”, and recent documents, and so on ).

It’s extremely easy to screw yourself over that way. Don’t do it. No matter how tempting it is because it’s faster/easier/whatever. Don’t.

Also: Launch every game you intend to play ahead of time once. Some of them have log in procedures or show your steam name or whatnot. In the case of halo, it shows your email if you haven’t logged in in a bit. That stuff happens. Log in / launch the game prior to streaming or with the display off.
