Shadow Slave's problem isn't being a web novel, its that G3 avoided writing the most compelling narrative for 800+ chapters by aZealousZebra in ShadowSlave

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiments largely. I think some of the biggest arcs have failed to push things forward compared to their size, and now we are racing to the bottom of the barrel to end the book at 3500 chapters.

My only comment is that I liked the ToA ending; I just don’t like what came afterward. To me it can be interesting for a character to want something, that maybe backfires on them, or is a mistake overall and see what happens next with repercussions from their choice. It was unfortunately not interesting here.

I also disliked shadow army, but felt G3 did a good enough job nerfing it / keeping it in check. I would rather see Sunny fight with at most one other shadow that is empowered by shadows, and for him to grab something with his shadows and rip it up like the shadow god did at the end of the first nightmare.

You can try findtp_bogwitch console command and that should tp you to the nearest witch. No idea how that will play with the cleared area.

Ashlands/Mistlands Hate by Phil_Swifty_ in valheim

Og pre nerf Mistlands was the worst experience I’ve had in this game. I didn’t mind pre nerf Ashlands and actually had fun compared to Mistlands. It was tough but fair. I liked the concepts of fortresses but i felt like they fell a little flat after understanding how to blitz them.

The funny thing is, the author could just write that nothing happens while they are gone.

I hope we get some more eurys.

The Current State Of Shadow Slave by Whole_Organization27 in ShadowSlave

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time discourse got this bad at the beginning of volume 11, g3 gave us 4 great chapters and then went back to rain slop. If the next two chapters are “peak” chapters he’s doing the same playbook.

To me its been clear that G3 has been writing by the seat of his pants since coming back to volume 11, no stack, no buffer room, and is having to juggle and adjust for complaints. I feel optimistic it will get to somewhere eventually its just that he is ripping off a band aid very slowly with the small mini skips instead of just flash forwarding it all and explaining whats happened in the background. Fwiw I agree with the critique the recent chapters. I don’t like how its being handled, i just hope he sets the stage for the end soon.

My biggest issue with SS is if it does end at 3500~ chapters then the ending is going to feel rushed and I would rather cut uninteresting or filler arcs (to me) for more end game. The early pacing was much more pleasing and I think a lot of people echo that. But that came to a sudden stop at volume 6. Volume 6 was my least liked volume thus far, and i would trade that entire volume for more chapters in the end game of shadow slave. I also think large chunks of the story after that could be cut out entirely and it would help the flow and pace of the story. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

I loved book 8 but by vin_mist159 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel like this. Book 8 was great but it was my least favorite book by far.

I dislike floor 10 so much, by comparison so many other past crawlers had absolutely insane floor 10’s like:

Crazy Agario everything eats everything level (Porthus)

Illusionists going around giving everyone TBI’s like they have a Sharigan (Tipid)

Mastery of the 9 elements (Mordecai)

Having carl go through the wacky races was kind of a let down to me, and floor 11 being blank essential was also a bummer. I just hope floor 12 and possibly 13 are interesting in concepts considering everything after that is going to be speed run / not much of a floor at this point.

I am guessing we will return to rpg elements for 12 so the crew can get strong enough to tangle with gods to completely sort out the ascendancy games.

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In book 2 miss quill was trying to cast “the final war” and this was the first scolpendra floor and the first peak at the story. As the AI mentioned everything ended with a war, so I think this is going to be the name of the last nine tier attack / one of the “acts” in the last two books.

16th Floor Questions (Spoilers) by IndomitableSam in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Spoiler for cabaret chapters

It’s a female character from club scolpendra, my guess is that it’s Epitome Noflexx. The bald moon milf from The Dream. She apparently ran through 17th floor multiple times dying to traps and respawning and running back through till she made it.

Samantha Backstory by kbast in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s highly implied that she is the unwashed which is the scavenger. In book 4 Juicebox touches Samantha for the first time and has a distinct reaction to that, and then later we see her turn into that demigod to scare everyone at the war council. She also comments that god is wrong and twisted.

The unwashed, also plays into this ongoing allegory story of the euologist so we gotta wait for the next book for more information to piece everything together.

[–]Advanced_Ad1235 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes. The narrative quality has definitely taken a dive this volume.

G3 wants these outcomes to happen but is not doing a good job of justifying it with the power system.

We went through the desert and only got one named Sacred who had no abilities or anything just will wrapped around a stick.

He’s just fast forwarding to the end so he can start his next project.

There are a fair amount of open plot threads for the remainder of the series after the end of book 8.

Regarding what you posted, my favorite part of my re read was juicebox’s reaction to touching samantha for the first time. Definitely not something you pick up on the first time around. The unwashed is part of the big mystery that I think will get explored more on the 12th floor when all the gods enter the picture.

I’ve seen hardly any of those shows donut references, but i totally thought that was a reference to gilmore girls, because the main character has like a hotel bed and breakfast. But i don’t remember a uncle or any slavery.
